Chapter 47

-Jerome's POV- (omg it's amazing)
I got up quickly and followed Jade outside.

After a day of hail, and serious heat right after, the hail the pack had collected in a pile had melted to become a lake.

In the center of the meadow.

The pack was forced to move around it on the outskirts of the meadow.

I had an idea to get rid of it.

"Preston, come here a moment."

"What is it, sir?"

"Just for a second, can you sit right on the edge of this lake, but do not touch it?"

He did so without another word.

The water instantly hardened to rock in the heat of the lava. Preston stepped only the rock, and it was actual rock. Cobblestone to be exact.

Noticing he was technically making the whole thing cobble by walking around, he kept going without instruction. It took ten minutes for him to clear up the water. But the cobble was going nowhere, so the pack just pushed uneven mounds dirt all over it so it was more comfortable to walk on.

"Thank you, Preston."

"No problems." He called behind him.

"Well, that settles the problem."

"I guess it does."

"Well, I am going back inside. It is way too hot out here."

It was true. It was roughly 110 degrees in the sun, and a thankful, but still horrible 85 in the shade.

"Jade, tell the pack to stay inside if they can. I do not want anyone getting burned or overheating out here."

"Alright. I will circle around and get the message through."

Satisfied she would do fine, I turned back to the den, and dropped down to the floor. Mitch was sprawled on the floor, and Preston was sitting in hay, looking severely unhappy.

"What is wrong?"

"I am lava. That does not mean I do not overheat. In fact, we overheat faster."

"I would say to find cold water, but since you cannot contact water, I have no helpful advice. I apologize."

"It is not your problem."

He sounded serious, so I let him be. At one point, my barely conscious self noted Preston leaving the den and going out into the sun.

He did not return, which made me nervous. However, I fell asleep from the heat before I could do anything.

~~+~~+~~+~~+~~
-Preston's POV-
The heat was not helping anything, but I walked in the forest anyways. I had grabbed a small pouch of berries and a single apple just in case. Feeling out of place in the surface was bad enough, but being in worse, hotter temperatures than the Nether was much worse.

I can tell anyone from personal experiences that the Nether is hot, like, a constant 90-95. But this 110 weather? No way is it ever this hot. Despite the lava, the higher overhangs remain cooler.

The temperature around my home is a steady 75 degrees, but only because it is the highest overhang in the entire Nether. The village is constantly 95 degrees,  being barely a few feet above the lava.

Just thinking about this, I had not realized I had stopped walking, and was standing in front of a redwood tree.

I climbed the tree to get a better perspective of my location, and suddenly was pulled down a several stories tall redwood by a small rope that had caught my leg.

I weighted net fell on me, and I sighed internally.

Here we go again.
