Part 6
Jay was an angel, who escaped from Heaven, who must've talked to God.... And she came back? And stayed for two years? Wouldn't God have already had her go back to Heaven, seeing as she was dead?
"Jay...." I say, bewildered by the blonde angel in a Tigress costume, "Why did you come back? Why would you?"
For a moment, her gaze drifted to me, then glanced out the window of Wayne Manor. She stayed quiet, her blue eyes averting my gaze. Her fingers drummed against the windowsill delicately. The red on her cheeks grew brighter, and she cleared her throat.
"Where are you sleeping?" She asks, and I thought for a moment.
"You didn't answer my question." I pout slightly.
She rose her head. "I came back to be with you, Bart, and now where are you sleeping?"
I was slightly shocked. She came back from eternal paradise for me? Why?! Aren't there other people in Heaven she'd prefer over me? There has to be. Now that was surprising. To know she escaped Heaven for me, knowing God might send her to Hell or something. And I have to say, Hell doesn't sound like a fun place to be.
"Have you decided where you're going to sleep?" She asked.
"The floor?" I say.
"You sure?" She asked with a yawn, taking off her sweatshirt that had been covering her tang top.
"Unless you have other places. Anything's crash with me!" I grin widely, just as she climbed into her bed.
"There's a couch over-" She yawned. "There...."
I nod before taking a blanket and going to the couch. It took me a while to fall asleep, as thoughts ran through my head extremely fast. But soon, my brain had worn itself out and I passed out.
************
I woke up to the sound of Jay struggling in her sleep. I look at the clock to see it was about midnight, and I crawled up onto the bed to give her a tight hug. She started to yelp, struggling.
"Jay!" Shaking her shoulders, I whisper, "C'mon, wake up!"
She jolted awake, her blue eyes wide with horror. She wrapped her arms tightly around me, burying her face in my chest. I stayed quiet, awaiting her to tell me what was wrong.
"Are you okay?" I ask, pushing a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
"J-Just a nightmare." She muttered, sighing softly.
"What was it about?" I ask.
"Before I tell you that...." She pulls away gently. "I need to tell you something else so you understand."
I nod, calmly waiting for what she had to say. She stayed quiet for a moment, her hands clutching mine tightly. She kissed me softly, then rested her forehead against mine.
"All right.... After I was in the League of Assassins, or the League of Shadows, for twelve years.... I was taken in by a kind person." She says quietly, taking a deep breath. "His name was Hartley Rathaway, aka the Pied Piper."
The name "Pied Piper" struck me. Wasn't he a bad guy? One who played a flute that could control people in doing as he liked, depending what the tune was, the song was? And he used to have a partner... What was her name...? That's right. Lyre. I think she tried to attack me, called me... Kid Zoom? I'm not a blonde....
"He took me in, let me do as I liked. He took care of me, and was very kind." She smiled softly. "He gave me a costume and a pair of sound wave gloves, called me Lyre."
I frowned, but kept the comments silent. She still has to finish her story.
"He took care of me for a year and a half." She looked sadder. "He would have still kept me for as long as he could, but he... He was killed by Gorilla Grodd. Dragged away, into the shadows... And that's what I have nightmares about."
I stay quiet, hugging her tightly. She squeezed me tight, her face nuzzling into my chest. She was definitely feeling the mode. And the mode isn't good. It isn't good at all. The mode is terrible, one of the worst things ever.
