Chapter 2: Wolfhaven Motel

Ted walked down the sidewalk in search of a police station. He decided that he wouldn't get too aquatinted with the place, so he wouldn't visit any more locations. About two and a half blocks down, he found it, the police station. He walked to the door and pushed it open. It wouldn't budge. Of course it wouldn't budge, it had a handle! Ted pulled on the handle. It still wouldn't budge. A foot above the handle, there was a paper taped to the door. It read, Closed today. Will be back tomorrow at 9. "Lazy police station," Ted said quietly. He turned around and realized that the sun was already beginning to set. He hadn't even thought of a place to stay. He went to the convenience store and asked for directions to a motel. She said it was just down to road. He found it, and walked into the lobby. The place smelled like old people, salted caramel, and a box of stale crackers. The interior design was years outdated, there was old flower wallpaper, with a burnt orange rug, and old brown furniture. He walked to the counter where the worker was sitting.

"Hey, old chap! Want a room?"

Calling me old chap? Ted thought to himself Go look in the mirror buddy. The man looked like he was 1000 years old and Ted could barely understand the man through his dentures.

"Um......yeah......yes please."

The man handed Ted a key.

"Twenty bucks a night."

Ted's eyes lit up. Twenty dollars a night? Unbelievable! He wondered if it included the bed bugs, or if that was an extra fee. The man pointed Ted to his room, room 14, and Ted made it there successfully. He opened the door to find a room decorated mostly like a lobby. There was a bed in the center of the main room, a chair in the top right hand corner, and the bathroom was behind a door to the left. In the bathroom were free soaps and lotions. On a shelf were washcloths and towels embroidered with a WM pattern on them. To his surprise, there was actually soft toilet paper, not the cheap old scratchy stuff. Ted brushed his teeth and got ready for bed, and to be honest, he was a little scared that there would be bed bugs. He climbed into the bed and, unfortunately, Ted could feel the springs poking at his back through the  mattress. Despite this, Ted still fell asleep in less than five minutes.

Ted woke up to the sound of a rooster. He flipped over on the bed and looked at the alarm clock. Ted groaned. The clock read 6:43 A.M.. not his favorite time to wake up. He fell back asleep until around 9:00. At that time, he got up and put on the WM robe on. He didn't have any extra clothes, and no dryer and washing machine to clean them with. He walked back down to the lobby. When he'd walked in, he saw a sign that said Free Breakfast Till 11:00 A.M. Ted was surprised to find a full breakfast bar set up in an empty space in the lobby. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and a fruit and salad bar. Ted immediately ran over and filled his plate. He took it back to his room because he was just in a robe. He scarfed the meal down and went back to the lobby to put his plate back. He put it on the stack and walked over to the front desk.

"Excuse me, is there a laundromat nearby?"

"Four blocks down. Make a left."

"Thanks."

The man winked at Ted and he walked away. When he got back into his room, Ted put his wallet in his pocket and went to an old thrift store by the motel. The clothes were ok, but definitely wouldn't be Ted's first choice. Unfortunately, he didn't have one. He rushed to the laundromat and washed them. Once they were clean, he went back to the motel and walked back to his room. Ted took and extra long shower. Once he was all washed up and clean, he put the clothes on. He went back to the laundromat and cleaned the clothes he wore yesterday. He put them in the book bag he got from the thrift store, and walked out of the laundromat. First stop, police station. The sign said it would be open at 9:00, and it was a little before 1:00. Plenty of time. When he go there, the door worked, and he saw a receptionist at the front desk.

"Hi, my name is Ted Greenbaou, and where am I?"

"Well Wolfhaven of course!"

"Where's Wolfhaven exactly?"

The lady pulled out a map and circled a spot around northeastern Pennsylvania.

"And are there any bus stops around?"

"Hold on," the lady said. She pulled out a town map and circled some of the stops.

"And is there a ticket station?"

"By the library."

"Where's that?"

"By the convenience store."

"Thanks."

Ted ran out of the police station and ran straight to the bus stop. He got to the ticket booth and a man greeted him from inside.

"Howdy pardner!"

"Hi, do you have any tickets to Beckett, in New Jersey?"

"One thousand forty dollars."

"Come again?"

"One.Thousand.Forty.Dollars.Please."

"Um, I don't have that much......any way you could spot me?"

"Get outta here kid!"

The man pulled down the blinds in the window. Ted stood there and thought long and hard. The sun went down over the horizon and Ted still stood there. Over three hours later, Ted came to a decision, he'd been missing for over three months, and he needed over one thousand dollars to get back to Beckett. So, he would get a job and save up to get back to his hometown.

A/N For any confusion, Wolfhaven is a fictional town, but Beckett is a real place in New Jersey. I hadn't really set a location for where in New Jersey, but I knew I couldn't put "Hi, Can I have a ticket to suburban New Jersey please." Because there are probably like a million suburban New Jersey towns, so I looked at a list of towns and Beckett just appealed to me. Sorry for any confusion, FritoPublishers121
