Ch. Sixteen: Hope Realized

When Edwin returned to the chair in the room, (F/n) motioned to the daggers and cloak. "Keiran, please return those to him." Keiran hesitated. "He's shown his loyalty. He's trusting us. I want to return it, or the vow he gave me means nothing if I don't uphold my end."

"Very well." He passed over the daggers and cloak. Edwin nodded in thanks and attached both back on. "(F/n), we should move onto asking now that we've gained his loyalty."

"Yes, agreed." Curious, Edwin waited. "I'd like to make a request of you." He motioned for her to continue. "You can mold metal into whatever you desire. So, can you ..." She paused; it seemed unreal to her so much so that she was worried to speak her want aloud in the event that it actually might not be possible. "Can you mold ..." (F/n) wanted the words out. Keiran rested a comforting hand on her shoulder, and she released a breath. "Can you make me arms and legs?"

Edwin paused as he noticed the fear in her optics. There was hope, but she was scared that he'd tell her that it wasn't possible. He had noted the metal that was looking to be an arm off to the side. No doubt, Keiran had been working on it since he had to shape metal as any other blacksmith would. But, he didn't have to tell her that he couldn't. And with Keiran's ability combining with his, it'd work. A reassuring smile touched his lips. "My queen, I can."

At first, she thought that she heard him wrong, but the smile on his face confirmed otherwise. Her lips upturned into her own smile. A soft chuckle escaped her lips. "Please, just call me (F/n) here." She now laughed joyously as she couldn't stop smiling. Tears began to form around her eyes, and she looked up happily to Keiran, who nodded back to her. "He can help."

To see (F/n) so overjoyed made Keiran smile brightly in turn. He loved seeing her like this. Yes, he wished that he could've given her arms and legs sooner, but he had his limitations. Yes, he hated that another man could provide her them sooner, but he'd withhold his pride and jealousy for her because Edwin was helping her. Keiran wiped her tears and pushed back some of her hair as she exclaimed, "I'll be able to walk today. I can eat. I can do everything I could before again."

Instinctively, she leaned forward on her chair to embrace Edwin out of thanks, but Keiran held her back gently. "I know, (F/n). This is wonderful." She smiled at Keiran in agreement, and Edwin, for the first time in his life, felt happy to have the magic he had. For once, he could safely say that it was being used for a good purpose, and he laughed gently beside the pair.

"Well, shall I begin?" Edwin asked, glancing between them. (F/n) eagerly nodded, her heart beating fast at what was about to happen. Keiran stepped away and grabbed the unfinished arm he had been working on. He passed it to Edwin.

Keiran and (F/n) watched as the metal began to shape in his hands. Fingers began to form as did a hand, forearm and part of the upper arm. And just like that, it was finished. He passed it to Keiran, and (F/n) watched as his magic traveled into the metal. It held the characteristic blue of all of the metal he crafted. His caramel eyes met her (e/c) ones. "Are you ready, (F/n)?" Without a moment's hesitation, she nodded.

Her heart beat faster. Gently, Keiran moved up her dress sleeve. The metal touched what remained of her arm, and it began to form to what was there. (E/c) eyes widened, and when Keiran let go, the arm remained. At first, she hesitated. For a fraction of a second, her mind couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. But, then she moved. First, her new fingers twitched, then she lifted her forearm and she proceeded to move her whole arm.

Tears trickled down her cheeks. She opened and closed her hand. It was moving with her, just like before; it wasn't difficult. Rather, her body adapted to it like it was her original arm. It didn't look like her previous arm, metal aside, but it didn't look too different. Besides, that didn't matter. She was just so happy that she had an arm again. (F/n) lifted up her finger more and wiped one of her own tears off. Watching the water drip down to the floor from her index finger, she laughed out in delight before she smiled to Edwin. "Thank you!"

He couldn't help but laugh in joy in turn. "Well, we're not finished yet." She nodded, and Keiran couldn't contain his own happiness at seeing her like this. Goodness, he loved seeing her smile so brightly.

In what didn't take long, Keiran had passed the steel he was going to use for her other arm and two legs over to Edwin, and Edwin was already shaping them. When they were completed, Keiran took the arm and lifted up (F/n)'s other sleeve. Like before, it attached seamlessly. She stared at both of her new hands and watched her fingers move. Tears fell onto her hands, and she watched the water drip off. How wonderful.

(F/n) choked on a happy sob before she wiped her tears and pushed back strands (h/c) hair. The feeling of metal against her skin was cold and unfamiliar, but she didn't mind. She'd grow used to it. She was just so ecstatic that she could do such simple actions again. "Are you ready?" Keiran's question broke her out of her thoughts. He held one of the legs up, and she nodded in anticipation.

Using her new hands, she lifted up the skirt of her dress a little, and he attached the first one. In seconds, she was able to move her new leg. Her toes twitched, and she giggled in delight. "Amazing." She smiled to them both. "You two are incredible."

"Well, first put on your other leg," Edwin reminded kindly, enjoying the happiness his magic brought her. Keiran was just the same; his heartbeat quickened in delight at the beautiful sight of his queen. She nodded and signaled to Keiran that she was ready. It attached.

"Are you ready, (F/n)?" Keiran asked, holding his hands out to her.

"I am." She smiled widely and rested her hands in his. Keiran always imagined holding her hands. He hadn't imagined them to be steel, but he didn't mind in the slightest because with his magic he brought the molds Edwin made to life. He brought her this joy. With a gentle tug, he lifted her onto her feet.

At first, she wobbled before she fell into him. He caught her and rested his hands on her upper arms. "Are you alright to walk?"

"Help me, please," she answered, and he was more than happy to oblige. Steadily, she supposed herself up on him and rested her hands back in his. Her legs moved fine, but her brain needed a reminder on how to step forward. It had been a little over three weeks since she had last walked.

Step by step, she began to learn again. Keiran guided her around the room, and she couldn't stop smiling. Her steps were loud, but she was happy to have steps again. However, she did note that sneaking wouldn't exactly be one of her fortes, but she did notice that her limbs felt lighter than she expected. Perhaps, that was Keiran's magic.

"I'm ready," she stated, though, meeting Keiran's eyes. He nodded and steadily let go. She wobbled a little before she took a step forward, then another. Soon enough, her steps grew quicker. She was walking! Without even thinking, she went over to them both and gave them each a hug. Edwin smiled softly, and Keiran was overjoyed. Being wrapped in her arms was truly wonderful.

"Thank you, you both! Thank you!" She smiled gratefully. "And, they feel lighter than I thought they'd be!"

"Well, I made them hollow," Edwin clarified. "I thought that you'd want a little more mobility. And with Keiran's magic in mind, I figured that durability wouldn't be compromised."

"Yes, they're perfect!" She looked at her new limbs again and couldn't stop smiling. Her fingers moved, and her toes curled. She was standing; she could walk. Another smile touched her lips, and she tried spinning around; she could! Almost, she lost her balance, but she didn't care. Keiran caught her, and she could only laugh in pure merriment. "This is amazing!"

"Just be careful," Keiran reminded, though, kindly. She looked back to him and nodded.

Keeping up her smile, she looked over to Edwin. "Well, I imagine that you're hungry." He nodded. "Well, let's all get some food." Without waiting, she began to walk off towards the food. Keiran smiled, watching her every step. Edwin shook his head in amusement.

"She's something else, isn't she?" he asked, looking to Keiran.

If Keiran hadn't noticed that he meant it in only a friendly manner and not a romantic one, he would've glared. But, Edwin didn't show any romantic interest in her, which was good. It better stay that way, or that would be a problem. He could handle another man being around (F/n) as long as he didn't pursue her. That's why he had let Felin off because he stopped after she rejected him. Only now, though, does he wish that he had done something to the piece of scum.

"Yes, she is. Well, we should follow her," Keiran advised, and Edwin nodded back in turn. Both men soon followed after their queen, sharing in her jubilation.
