Chapter 7

The world was dark and stormy, a setting fit for the battle that could be heard around her. However, the tunnel vision this premonition always repeated only allowed Skurn to see the red blur of a lightsaber before the dull blade of her own dark saber was too slow to block... pain spread through her chest. She screamed at the burning sensation, part of her knew this wasn't real yet but the other part didn't care. She was dying and couldn't do anything about it.

A crackle could be heard from nearby as a red glow once again came into her vision, and then she could hear her name. Skurn's body didn't move however as she felt the wound seeping her life out, her breathing slowed as the tunnel vision narrowed even more and she could feel the rain soaking through her body even more as someone shook her. Their voice was lost to her hears from the other sounds of battle... or at least they were for a while as her eyes finally closed.

Skurn jolted a bit as she woke up and blinked a few times as her heart raced in her chest. She finally made out Kylo's face staring down at her, his hands holding her down like he'd done the past few nights after her visions had continued... the same one repeating in her head every night. She shivered and tried to calm her breathing, just glad their captors had allowed them to be back in the same cell, as this helped her survive these terrors that would surely kill her if Kylo didn't work to wake her up before she felt her heart stop beating in the vision.

"I'm fine." Skurn told him before he could ask again.

Kylo nodded. "It was your death again, wasn't it?"

"Yeah." She admitted, though she kept the part about considering him for her killer. The lightsaber hadn't looked like his but the sound was the same, perhaps the vision had just been too blurry. "But I should be getting used to it by now."

He was silent for a moment and she glanced at him, thinking he'd fallen back asleep, before seeing his dark gaze meet her lighter one... she instantly realized he had gone into her mind, taking care to avoid her notice. She winced slightly as he tightened his grip on her. "I would never do that Zeh. After all of the things we've gone through do you think I would just kill you? That will not happen, I'll do anything to stop it."

She shivered at his dangerously low voice; his control over his anger and hatred was starting to slip, which was easy to tell by the light shaking of his hands. Skurn pushed aside her unease as she shifted to lock eyes with him once more. "I don't doubt that Kylo but what if something happens and you just... I don't know... Let your anger consume you?"

"Zeh..." He shook his head roughly, a scowl crossing it briefly. "It won't. I know it won't. Nothing would ever make me kill you."

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah? You seemed pretty keen on it when Snoke ordered us to fight to the death."

Kylo was silent for a long time, though she could sense his conflicting thoughts that revealed he was still awake. She was about to fall back into some more fitful sleep before dawn came to signal more questioning when the cell door unlocking made her eyes snap open again to see Alder walking in, his hair a disgruntled mess and his sickly pale skin almost glowing against the dark.

"It's time." His voice sounded rough, as though he'd been shouting, which he had been doing over the past few sessions of interrogation so it wasn't surprising. "I need this over with."

"No." Kylo got to his feet and Skurn glanced over at him. "We won't just walk to our deaths."

"I don't want to fight you brother but you knew this would happen eventually." Alder bit back half-heartedly, quite different than he usually acted around them. "Master Skywalker says this is necessary."

"Why?" She spoke up her own challenge. "I thought the Jedi held trials, so where is ours?"

"A trial isn't needed. You two are clearly guilty of murdering people who didn't deserve it!" He growled.

She narrowed her eyes as she rose to stand by Kylo's side. Alder didn't want this to happen... but why? "You disagree with him?"

His eyes flashed in denial but after a moment he gave a nervous swallow. "Yes."

Surprise flickered in her and was reflected by Kylo who seemed to still be debating whether or not to attack in an attempt to escape. "And why is that, brother? I thought the Jedi meant everything to you? That the galaxy needed to be rid of the Sith."

"Uncle wants the Republic to return, for the Jedi to rise up again, to make the galaxy like it was before the Empire first took it over." Alder's gaze never left them as he spoke. "It won't work. The Republic has failed again, though that was in part due to someone destroying it before the people could fully finish what had been created. Ben, do you remember the stories we were told about the Jedi? How they had become corrupt due to their power in the Senate?"

"Ben is gone." Skurn saw Kylo tense and take a step forward.

Alder glared at him as if to deny that fact. "The Jedi aren't saints either. I intend to bring peace to the galaxy, not to build a slow acting Republic but a functioning Empire, though not with the First Order in charge... that would of course ruin the point. I'm not sure who could lead it yet, but I dislike the idea of it being a Force user. That would only bring back corrupted Jedi."

"What's the point of this?" She asked, getting a bit impatient. "You're going to kill us so why tell us this?"

"Because I can't trust anyone else to not kill me too." He lowered his head and sighed. "Might as well tell someone though."

"It does seem like an... interesting idea." Kylo admitted with a look of pride at his brother, though the expression soon left. "But you'll fail. You always have failed, you're weak, and once the Resistance hears what their leader is planning to use them for they'll see you as no better than those in the First Order. You won't have an army and the First Order will win, wiping you and this Resistance out with it."

"At least you'll be taken down with it!" Alder snapped.

Skurn took a defensive step back as he took out his lightsaber, the purple beam glowing in the dawning light. "What if I could get an army? Would you spare us?"

"Why would you help me?" A flicker of shock and disbelief crossed Alder's face.

She glanced at Kylo who looked slightly interested in her questions. "Well, I'm nothing but a bounty hunter right? Surviving is what we do. And to survive this means getting you some backup to fight as a third party in this war. Of course, I would need to stay alive to give them orders and Kylo must live as well if you want me to cooperate... But the stakes are probably too high aren't they? We could turn just as soon as you free us or kill you easily and make you another fallen hero in the eyes of the Resistance. Killing us and finding your own way to create peace through your idea of an empire is probably simpler."

"Zeh." Kylo's voice held a warning tone in it.

Alder frowned. "That's a hard bargain to take but... I must admit. I am tempted. I could make your army seem like they're helping the Resistance. Of course, that is to say you even have an army."

"Let's just say some people owe me, or rather my former mentor, some favors." Skurn smirked.

The air was filled with tension as Alder thought it over. "...I'll consider your offer. But be prepared. This could be your last few hours alive, you bought them but that doesn't mean your lives are safe yet."

She noticed Kylo raising his arm slightly, his hand in the choking position and quickly kicked him slightly as his brother left. He was not going to ruin this chance at freedom by killing another Resistance leader and getting the two of them hunted down to the ends of the galaxy. His glare burned her but she ignored it and slumped back to the ground, she wasn't sure it would work, and if this bargain did she wasn't sure she'd be able to get those who owed Boba Fett to actual help her despite her ties with the deceased bounty hunter.

"You should have let me kill him." Kylo growled, still standing beside her instead of sitting back down.

She shrugged. "Don't you want a chance to destroy the Resistance and defeat Snoke? If we succeed, you'll take the position of power... You'll be what Darth Vader could never have achieved: the Emperor of the Galaxy. Think about it, all that power at your disposal and no enemies to stand in your way."

Skurn yelped in surprise as he pinned her down roughly, his eyes holding a spark of lust. "Of course I will. And once I'm in charge no one will ever dare stand against me... Zeh, you of course would be with me. We would rule side by side and someday perhaps our son or daughter would join us as well."

His death grip loosened and she saw him look away as though remembering the premonitions. She managed to sit up and frowned slightly as well. "If we make this deal with your brother then perhaps we can change the future. Nothing is ever set in stone, just try not to change it too much, otherwise the vision could come true."

"I won't let it." He responded in a bad tempered growl, as his eyes burned the dark swamp around them.
