Chapter 14

It had taken a while but Kylo was finally face to face with Supreme Leader Snoke, their lightsaber blades clashing continuously as each fought to dominate the other. At his side, Skurn's dark saber whirled around in a distraction for Snoke. He couldn't put his finger on it, and couldn't focus completely on the topic at the moment, but something about her was off. The fighting style was a bit sloppy, though it could've been due to the near drowning, and she hadn't used the Force once. He should have forced her to go back to the ship despite the enemies closing in on them; it would've been better than fighting here.

"You will die for your betrayal." Snoke snarled, his usually calm demeanor now gone and the anger twisting the grotesque features even more.

Kylo blocked the attack again, the feeling of being torn between loyalty and family shrinking with each strike of their weapons. He never should have trusted Snoke. His old master raised his hand and Kylo flew back, skidding to the edge of the path before coming to a stop. He shook off the pain and looked up to see Skurn's form stagger to its knees as lightning shot through her body, Kylo knew the older version of the suit wasn't going to lessen the electrical shock either. He started choking Snoke as he got back up and stalked over, it wouldn't end like this. She would live! Pain erupted in his head as Snoke went into his mind, paralyzing Kylo in place.

"Foolish boy." Snoke growled. "I was around before the Clone Wars, do you really expect to beat me so easily?"

He saw the faint bloody glow around Skurn's dark saber right before it went through Snoke's chest. The grip fell away as Snoke gave a furious shout and rounded on his second enemy. There was nothing Kylo could do as the lightning flung the now limp form into the jagged mountainside where a crack could be heard. He felt more anger surge through him than he'd ever felt before and used the Force to fling Snoke to the ground and hold him there... He took off the Sith's head as soon as he was close enough, though he received a jolt of electricity through his body as well before he could kill Snoke. The pain was nothing now though; the fury he felt was too strong.

"Zeh!" He ran to the fallen figure but froze as he saw the face behind the broken visor. "... Alder?"

Kylo pulled the helmet off and stared at the blood stained face of his brother as he put together what Skurn had done. He couldn't even begin to imagine how Alder had been sucked into helping her but Kylo knew that if his brother had snuck up after him in an attempt to act like Skurn then where was the real woman? He left his brother's side and went to the edge to look for her in the battle below, it took a few minutes before he spotted the purple lightsaber fighting near his uncle and turned to make his way down the mountain, he had to get there before she got herself killed.

"Ben..." Kylo paused to stare at his brother as Alder blinked open his eyes.

He forced his feet to move back over to his brother as he struggled to breath. "That isn't my name."

"Please." Alder's eyes were starting to glaze over. "...Don't let me... me die."

Kylo could see the damage his brother had taken in the fight and shook his head. The blood running down his face was thick and fast as it came from the gash in his temple, not to mention the lightning that had probably done internal damage as well. He backed away, there was nothing he could do for his brother, Alder's eyes had already closed again and his wheezing breaths were growing shallower.

"Brother..." Alder called out again, his voice barely a whisper.

He gave a sigh and picked up his brother before making his way down the path as quickly as his load allowed. The fighting was thinning now and most of the aerial dogfights had fallen into none existence, he still couldn't tell what side was winning. After finding a spot his brother would be safe in, Kylo used both his and Skurn's weapons to cut his way through those around him as he slowly made his way towards the Jedi as they fought. It was as he got closer that the battle took an unsuspected turn and he found his uncle whirl around as he took out a Storm Trooper to Force choke Finn. Confusion made him slow for a moment at the sight before he picked up his pace, watching as Skurn and Rey went to Finn's rescue.

Kylo joined them shortly after they distracted Luke and he clashed his own blades with his uncle's green one. His uncle kicked him back and Kylo felt the heat of the lightsaber breeze past his throat before a pulse went through the ground, knocking everyone back. He grunted in discomfort as he got back up to see his uncle's lightsaber at his neck.

"What?" Kylo questioned, not know exactly what he wanted to know... probably everything.

Luke sneered down at him. "The Dark side is powerful and once you start down its path, you won't go back to the light... I fought against it long enough. Help me kill them and I'll forgive what you did to Snoke. We can control the galaxy as a family, just as I should have with my father."

"No." Kylo surprised himself at his answer as he used the Force to shove his uncle back.

The sensation of choking came over him and Kylo slumped back to the ground as the others struck at Luke, though the apparent Sith was able to keep up his concentration as he fought them back. He tried to get up but only made it a few feet before collapsing again in the slick mud, the edges of his vision darkening even more than it had been with just the rain. Finn's scream of pain followed by Rey's shout of fury helped bring him back into consciousness and he forced his oxygen-deprived body to its feet before striking at his uncle. The green blade once again deflected his and pain went through his body as the lightsaber left a cut down his torso.

"Kylo!" He blinked groggily, barely able to keep his eyes open as his throat contracted even more under his uncle's Force grip, to see Skurn rush at Luke and go for the killing stoke as Rey held back the green blade.

The purple lightsaber went through Luke's body, tearing upward as Skurn's anger was unleashed, Kylo managed to inhale once more and used it to scream a warning that came too later as Luke used the Force to fling Rey to the side and bring his green blade through Skurn's skull. The two fell to the ground, his uncle dying and Skurn already dead. He rolled to his feet and stumbled over to her, slipping in the mud with his unsteady feet at her side.

"Zeh?" He lowered his head in grief as he realized that despite everything to try saving her, she had been too stubborn to stay out of the fighting... that despite avoiding the vision she was still dead! Anger and pain went through him and he knew Rey was keeping her distance to help Finn. "I'm sorry, I failed you."

"Well, I wouldn't say that." Skurn's voice came from behind him. "Disappointed me maybe, but not failed."

Kylo spun around to see her smirking down at him as watered down blood dripped off of her, he could see some of it was from enemies but there were several wounds bleeding out that he was concerned with. "What were you thinking?"

She seemed unfazed at the snarled words as she joined him on the ground. "I'm alive aren't I? And I even got to fight, everyone's happy."

He pulled her to her feet as he stood up and ignored the dead clone on the ground to press a hand against the wound on her side. Rey came over with Finn at her side and Kylo could see BB-8 staring up at him before giving a beep of inquiry.

Rey followed with her own question. "Where's Alder?"

"Follow me." Kylo started making his way through the ruins, most of the remaining First Order members had fled or died, not that there were many Resistance members left to celebrate it.
