Chapter 9- Clarindessa's Past

Third Person Pov

"Around eight years ago Fairy Tail challenged an artificial dragon. That dragon was defeated, and Daphne the creator of said dragon was imprisoned." Clarindessa begins.

"Yes, I remember that fight." Juvia nods.

"Of course you did, you were a member then. And I was Daphne's daughter."

"What!?" The bluenette and the brunette exclaim, shocked.

"Yes. After she was taken away, I was ruined. I had nowhere to go, no job, no means of survival without my mom. She both sheltered and protected me, and I had almost no contact with the world. But I knew it was Fairy Tail whom destroyed my family and life. And I wanted vengeance." She finishes.

"Wow taking it a bit to the extreme huh? You realize that you could either wait until your mother gets out of jail, or you could possibly pay a ton of money and get her out early?" Juvia says, amazed by this woman's....spirit.

"This matter is not to discuss with people like you. Enjoy yourselves, because once I've destroyed Fairy Tail, I'll destroy you."

"What does Hazel have to do with us!?" Jumping up, Juvia stops the older woman from leaving.

"She has connections to your guild that I doubt she's aware of." Clarindessa says vaguely, then exits the room, closing and locking the door behind her.

"What does that mean?" Hazel wonders out loud, troubled.

"Only you would know." Juvia says sadly.

A few hours later.

Juvia lays on the bed, desperately trying to sleep, to reach Levy again.

Hazel sits distressed on the couch, head in her hands, trying to remember.

A young man with short blonde hair and green eyes knocks on the door. Juvia looks up through the window in it.

He enters and says, "Here, I brought you food. The mistress said to only bring you a little bit, but I managed to smuggle some more in." He's whispering nervously, and glancing around as though he'll be seen.

"Thank you Alec. It's so sweet of you to do this for us!" Hazel says, dropping her worried look to smile at him. He blushes a little, and silence grows. They're both blushing now.

"Well I don't know about you but I'm starving!" Juvia declares, trying to stay upbeat.

"Oh, Juvia was it?" The boy named Alec asks. She nods her head in confirmation. "Right, the Fairy Tail member. In case you wanted to know, your friends will probably be here in a day or two."

"D-do you know which...." She trails off.

"I'm not completely sure who's in the group, but it's fairly big. The spy lacrimas that spotted them showed five boys and four girls. One of the girls had blood red hair, one had blonde, one had blue, one had a darker blue, that was longer. The guys had blue, pink, black, and raven colored hair." He tells them.

"Red, that's definitely Erza, blonde is Love Ri- I mean Lucy, the two bluenettes must be Levy and Wendy, then Natsu, Gajeel, Romeo, and the raven hair......Gray......" Juvia thinks to herself.

"Why are you telling us this? Won't you get in trouble too?" She asks him, concerned.

"Well...you see....." He says uncomfortably.

"Alec can't be seen by people he doesn't trust. He completely exists, he's not an illusion, but unless he trusts us, we can't see him." Hazel explains to Juvia.

"Oh, hm. You decided to trust me that fast?" Juvia asks him, surprised.

"I don't decide, the spell on me does. If you are trustworthy then you can see me, it's always a surprise, or not, depending on the person."

"Huh. It's pretty useful then isn't it?" Juvia points out.

"It gets lonely when you're always around untrustworthy people. Hazel was the first, and we figured it out together." He tells her.

"I'm glad we can all trust each other!" Hazel exclaims.

"Can we eat now?" Juvia grumbles.

-Gajeel's Pov-

The tone of the girl's voices has changed, from worried to frantic, and distressed and scared.

"There's something wrong." I say to the other guys. They stand up.

"Well, since Gray's finally sleeping, who's going to go check on them?" Jellal asks.

"Um....You're in charge?" Romeo says to him.

"Fine I'm going." Jellal says exasperatedly.

We watch him leave the room, then hear him knock on their door.

"Girls? Is everything okay?" He calls.

Then it seems as though someone pulls him into the room, and even with dragon slayer hearing we can't tell what's going on through the magic walls.

"What do you think is going on Natsu?" Romeo asks him. Just as Natsu was about to respond with some stupid ass answer, Jellal comes back in, looking extremely worried.

"You should see this." He says grimly, and gestures us into the girl's room. On a bed near the back of the large hotel room lays Levy. It's the first thing I notice.

Then I realize her skin is ashen and she isn't moving, hardly breathing. The other girls look at me, pity and fear etched on their faces.

"What's wrong with her?" I asks quietly, hoping to contain myself.

"Gajeel...please don't get mad....but Levy's in a coma...." Wendy says quietly, scared of how I might react. I notice Romeo moving forward, putting himself between her and me.

"How?" I say, almost growling it out.

"She cast a spell that helped us find Juvia, but the result of it was her going into this state. So you know, it was entirely her idea, and we were all reluctant." Lucy says.

I just growl and push past them all to stand next to the bed. I stare into Levy's face. She seems so innocent like this.

Lucy's Pov

Gajeel shoves past us and stands by Levy's bed. He just looks at her for a while. Then he pushes his way out of the room and leaves the whole hotel.

"He certainly took that better than I expected." Erza remarks thoughtfully. Right as she finishes her sentence there's an explosion outside. I rush to the window and see a building in the distance crumble to the ground.

"I take that back." Erza sighs. For the rest of the night the guys stay with us, listening to the sirens caused by the iron dragon slayer.

The next morning

Gajeel wakes us up super early.

"Was it worth it?" He asks gruffly. I can tell he was out all night, and his eyes are bloodshot.

"Hm?" I run my eyes, still waking up.

"Shrimp. Her spell. Did we get anything out of it?" He says.

"Oh, yes. She had a split second of consciousness where she hastily wrote something down, then....well you can see." I tell him. He grabs the paper from me as soon as I pick it up.

"It says "Covan Valley, Iron Castle".

"That should be where Juvia is!" Gray says, appearing in the doorway. "Let's go."

"What about her?" Jellal asks us, gesturing to our blue-haired friend.

"She requested we leave her behind, so that her body stays safe. But who will stay with her?" Erza says.

"I will." Gajeel instantly replies.

"By yourself?"

"I'll be fine. Go get Water Girl." He says.

"Okay...we'll be back!" Wendy says to him, and we make our way to Covan Valley.

"The nice thing is Covan Valley is just a few miles from here, we should be there by tomorrow!" Erza points out.

"Yeah." I say, sadly.

"Hey, we'll help Levy as soon as we get Juvia, okay?" Natsu says, and puts his arm around my shoulders.

"Thanks Natsu." I sigh, and while still walking, lean my head against him.

Third Person Pov

Unknowing to the two sharing a moment, Erza walks behind them, smiling slightly, enjoying the scene.

Jellal walks next to her, silently. He notices her smile and is happy.

"Hey, how have you been holding up?" She asks him, concern on his memories and his belief showing.

"Hm? Oh, pretty well. We've defeated a few smaller dark guilds, and I've been seeing things more clearly in my mind." He thinks of a moment on a beach, when he shouldn't have lied, even if it was for her.

"Ah, okay." They walk in silence again, but are enjoying each other's company.

Wendy and Romeo are in front of everyone but Gray, who's lonely figure walks ahead.

Kidding

They both know nothing about each other, and feel awkward walking so silently.

"Romeo?" Wendy says.

"Hm?" He replies quietly.

"I'm scared." She mumbles.

"Of what?" He asks, looking at her in surprise and worry.

"I feel like something terrible is going to happen soon, and I won't be strong enough." She tells him.

"Wendy you are strong, stronger than me, and stronger than even you know. Us being as young as we are, it's hard to match their strength huh?" He asks, and she nods, relating. "That doesn't mean we aren't strong enough. I think you'll always be strong enough."

The blue haired girl smiles. But then she frowns again. "But if I'm not?"

"Then..." Romeo blushes. "Then I'll be strong for you." Then they both walk quieter than before, yet they both feel as if they know each other better. Red slightly tints both of their cheeks.

Three hours later

Third Person Pov

They stop at a hotel about 5 hours from Covan Valley. Natsu insisted they walk the whole way, but he was overruled in two ways. First of all, they're taking a train in the morning. And second, they're resting before that.

The girl's room is three doors away from the guys, and there are groups of drunkards in-between.

"Am I the only one worried they might get hurt?" Jellal asks the other guys. Gray stands at the window and ignores him, to caught  up in his thoughts to answer.

"I am." Natsu says quietly.

"So am I." Romeo says.

"Well, Natsu, make sure you're always listening, also either Romeo or I will pass by their door and listen to see if they're okay." Jellal takes action. The other two nod in agreement.

Over the next few hours

Romeo and Jellal have passed by the room about fifty times. Natsu has stayed up, listening intently. Nothing notable has happened. Once or twice Jellal silently peeked into the girl's room, checking in case something had happened without them hearing.

Romeo's Pov

Jellal made me promise to do one round (up and down the hall) and then to go get him to do the next. But I'm too restless. I do another one. The hallway is dark and long, five doors on both sides. On the end farthest from our room is an elevator, the very one Natsu almost lost his stomach to just a few hours ago. There's a window on the other end, and it looks into a nature park, filled with trees. The curtains flutter from the cool breeze coming from the slightly open window. The two rooms of drunkards has dropped to one room of drunkards. They moved their whole party into one room after a portion of them passed out. It's quieter now, but they're still very obnoxious.

Thunk

I start at the noise, which is unnatural to the current noises. It came from a different room. The room where our friends are staying. Quickly, I dash to their door. My room opens, Natsu and Jellal following right after me, undoubtedly Natsu heard it too.

We open the door. One of their two windows is open, and the room is lit by the moon. Erza stands over a figure with her frying pan, probably the first thing she requipped. The person lies on the floor, unconscious.

Third Person Pov
"Good technique." Jellal mutters, walking to Erza's side and surveying the person with disgust.

Natsu walks in as well, to Lucy's side, where she's sitting up in her bed. Romeo stays at the doorway. He looks around the room for more threats.

Romeo's Pov
Eventually everyone relaxes. They thank us and say goodnight. I take one last look around. Erza and Lucy are looking through the window that was infiltrated. Wendy sits on her bed, which is right underneath the other window. The other girls aren't facing her. I wave, then turn and almost close the door when something registers. A metal canister, outside, on the windowsill by Wendy. I stop to look at it, and notice a hand reach up and press a button on it.

I fling the door open and look out the window. All the girls are looking at me, along with Jellal, who stopped. The metal cylinder has a red glow to it that increases every second. I try to figure out what it is. I pull open the window when the light becomes bright. As it reaches blinding, I realize what it is.

"Get away from the window!" I shout, and shove Wendy far enough to the side to be safe. I frantically think of what to do. I can't eat it, only Natsu can contain explosions like this will cause. I can't throw it, the risk of others being hurt is too high. The window is big enough...

Wendy's Pov

As soon as he picks it up I know what he's going to do. His split second of a desicion after he shoves me is amazing.

"Romeo! Don't!" I run towards him, but Erza stops me. He jumps.

"No!" My shrill scream cuts through the air like a knife, anyone awake would hear. But they can't help.

Hehe bye-bye!😉
