chapter eight

not edited

Bill rode on his bike with Alice as they did the day before, but this time they didn't really talk. After what happened at Ben's, they all decided to part ways and meet up again the next day to just hangout.

"Thanks for giving me another not-lonely ride home, Bill." Alice said as they'd gotten to her house, her hopping off of her bike and lifting it up, putting it on the sidewalk. She put the kickstand down, turning to Bill.

"You're w-welcome. I'm h-here if you ever n-need anything Alice." Bill said, letting go of his handlebars as he rested his feet on the ground. The same way he did yesterday.

Alice leaned in, giving Bill another hug. This hug lasted way longer than the one the day before, and Alice and Bill both appreciated it. After taking a deep breath Alice pulled away, smiling once before turning and kicking her kickstand up, wheeling her bike inside.

After getting it inside the gate and closing the gate behind her she did the same thing as anytime she used her bike- walked it to the side of the house, resting it against it with the kickstand down. She walked around the front and up the porch, taking one last quick look at Bill as she went inside.

By the time it was nightfall, Alice didn't even bother to try to sleep. She felt as if she tried to she wouldn't be able to, and if she did she wouldn't hear when Stanley came up to her window- since they've both agreed to spend another night with each other since they've both had terrifying experiences.

She was sitting in her bedroom, working on finishing the drawing of Richie and Eddie. She'd already finished drawing, outlining and painting the one of Bill and Stan, but she decided she'd never finish the one of Richie and Eddie if she didn't try to work on it some now.

She planned on drawing Ben and Beverly after, since they're some of her new friends she'd recently made too, but she'd rather go ahead and finish this paper first before going and starting on another one.

As she sat at her desk and got her paints out, along with a cup of water and everything else she'd need, there was a light tap on her window. Walking over, she opened it to see nobody there.

"Hmm, that's weird. Must just be hearing things." Alice told herself, shutting the curtains and going to turn back to her desk.

She stopped right in her tracks, her eyes wide and mouth open slightly. There was a bright red balloon just floating inches from her face. Alice's hands started to lightly shake, she was scared to do anything. Blink, move, stay still, anything and everything.

Her breathing got jagged, as she heard light laughter. "We all float down here, Alice. Come float with us."

Frantically, she looked around, not seeing anything different except for the red balloon in front of her. Before she could realize what she was doing, she punched the balloon away (with it not helping much since it was a balloon) and turned, making her way quickly out of the window.

As she threw the curtains open and unlocked the window, opening it, Stan had approached her house on his bike.

"Alice?" He asked, worry in his voice as he hid his bike in the bushes and jumped the fence, running toward her window. As Stan made his way toward the area he used to prop himself up to the second floor, something grabbed Alice, throwing her back.

She screamed lightly, tears filling her eyes and falling down her cheeks. "Stan!" She called as best as she could, it coming out choked out.

The clown was standing in front of her. He was so much bigger as he was close to her, his giant forehead and bright hair covering the light of her room. His smile just got bigger as he headed toward Alice, but before he could get to her Stan flung himself through the window, making the clown disappear.

When Stan saw Alice his face went to straight sadness. Tears were streaming down her face, soaking her pajama shirt and the hair that had fallen in her face. Her eyes were dark, with ginormous dark circles under her eyes. She was breathing heavily, clutching her legs to her chest.

He immediately ran to her, pulling her into his arms. He knew Bill would get jealous if he knew that Stan was comforting her, but Bill would honestly just have to get over it. Alice was scared, and Bill wasn't there at the moment- Stan was.

As Alice cried into Stan's chest, she tried her best to explain what had happened right before the tall boy showed up.

"I'm here now, it's okay." Stan said, running his hands through her hair.

It took him a while, longer than it took Bill to calm Alice down earlier, but he finally got her to stop crying and dried her tears. The moment she was able to get herself together she stood up, closing and locking the window behind her, making sure the curtains were shut.

She turned every light in her room on- the regular light, her two lamps and her nightlight, and sat against her headboard.

Stan slipped his shoes off before getting into bed with her, "I wish I could make you feel happy, the way that Bill does so you're not sad."

"What do you mean?" Alice asked, looking over at him. "I don't like you or anything, but Bill makes you really happy, and when something like this happens to you, I can't comfort you the way that he can. Maybe we should go over there." Stan said, rubbing his hands together.

"Won't we get into trouble?" She asked, biting the inside of her lip. "Well, I mean you can go tell your mom you're staying at Beverly's, then we'll leave and I'll sneak out of the window and I'll meet you outside, we'll ride to Bill's and sneak in his window. It's just harder to get into his window but I'm sure we can manage." He replied. She nodded, getting out of bed and quickly telling her mom she was staying the night with Beverly.

After her mom said okay, which surprised Alice, she found her way upstairs, grabbing her backpack and throwing the drawing pad, pencils, a sharpener, and clothes into her backpack before just slipping some shoes on.

"I'll meet you down in a minute. Turn that lamp off before you go." Alice quickly told Stan, turning the lights off minus the nightlight and the lamp and made her way out of the room. She made her way downstairs and outside, locking the door behind her before making her way to the side of the house.

She grabbed her bike, rolling it outside of the gate and shutting it behind her, hopping onto her bike. After Stan made his way toward her she followed Stan in the direction of Bill's. She knew it was super close since Bill always rode her home before he went himself, but she still had no idea which house it was considering she's only technically been past Stan's house.

After they got there and hid their bikes, she followed Stan to the direction of Bill's window. Stan picked up a couple pebbles, tossing them at Bill's window. Soon enough, Bill popped his head out of the window- clearly he hadn't been sleeping. His eyes widened as he saw not only Stanley, but Alice. Even though her tears were dried her cheeks were still red and puffy, and he immediately knew she was crying.

He waved them up before putting a finger to his mouth, motioning for them to be quiet as they did so. Stan help Alice find her way up to Bill's window, where Bill helped pull her in quietly before he helped Stanley in.

"What's wr-wrong?" He asked, looking at Alice. "We've been seeing things." Stan said, as Alice just threw her shoes and backpack off, setting down but making sure she didn't make too much noise. "L-like what?" Bill asked, looking over at Stan.

"Well, I saw this clown, he moved inside this painting. Alice has been seeing him all over the place, having bad dreams. That's why I was over there last night- and we planned for me to come over again since Alice still didn't know where you lived and-" Stan stopped. He mentioned 'this clown', because he didn't know Alice and Bill had talked about it when they got milkshakes, for all he knew Bill didn't know about this clown.

"What?" Bill asked, furrowing his eyebrows. "As I got there tonight the clown was about to attack Alice." Stan breathed out, and before anyone could say anything else Bill walked over to Alice, wrapping his arms around her.

He'd always had trouble talking to cute girls, especially Alice, but he knew she wouldn't deny this. Even though they've known each other fully for such little time, she always went to him to comfort him, when she was able to. She tried to hang out with Bill more than the others- he knew he was something special to her.

But she was something special to him, also. She was so much to him- meant so much, yet she didn't realize it.
