chapter 3

It was morning. Y/n got up and stretched. He noticed Iris was still asleep. Y/n got up and went to get breakfast. He grabbed some meat that he was sure wasn't human and brought it back to the camp.

Y/n: Wakey- wakey.

Iris opened her eyes slowly.

Y/n: Time to eat.

Iris: How am I supposed to eat while I'm bound like this?

Y/n took the fork and stabbed a bite sized piece of meat.

Iris: Seriously?

Y/n: It's either this or starve.

Iris: It's not human is it?

Y/n: While that would be cruel. Human is a delicacy right now for orcs.

Iris let Y/n feed her, not having much choice in the matter. She was hungry, so she didn't really had a choice.

Afterwards Y/n got her a cup of water. Then walked out.

He found Kruk talking with the spies he sent.

Kruk: Y/n. The boys found something quite interesting.

Spy 1: That's right boss! We watched that Osmond manflith the whole night. He put on quite a show for us.

Y/n raised an eyebrow.

Y/n: Explain?

Spy 2: He got pretty *pauses to think of the right word* "handsy" with one of the other females.

Spy: He had a nice scar on his back, long and big.

Y/n pondered what to do with this information.

Kruk: What's the plan boss?

Y/n: I think I know a way to hurt Osmond even more.

Y/n entered his tent.

Y/n: I have some news for you Iris.

Iris: *sarcastic* You're letting me go.

Y/n: No. I sent some spies to watch you're dear Osmond.

Iris: *confused* And?

Y/n: It seems you're love is one sided.

Iris struggled violently against her bonds.

Iris: LIAR! HE WOULD NEVER-!

Y/n: Where did he get that scar on his back?

Iris froze, her realization set in. She fell as far as she could and began to sob. Y/n stood there and watched her cry.

Iris: He was supposed to rescue me. I believed in him to at least try and help me. He told me so many times he loved me.

Iris went silent for a minute.

Iris: Just kill me, I have no one left.

Y/n pulled out his knife and held it to her throat pondering what to do.

He could oblige her request and end her misery right here and now. But that wouldn't be very useful.

He took the blade off her neck and cut her bindings. Iris looked at him in shock as she rubs her own wrist.

Iris: Why?

Y/n: I believe in opportunities. One that can benefit us both. You saved his life twice by my count, and yet he betrayed you're trust. Humanity hasn't been that kind to you.

Iris looked at her feet.

Y/n: But yet I have taken good care of you. You are unharmed except for some stiff wrists. You're enemy has taken better care of you then you're allies have.

Iris was sad, but she was also very angry. Angry at Osmond for betraying her trust. She reached in her pocket and pulled out a small brooch.

Iris: Osmond got me this brooch. It was on our first date. He claimed that he loved me and he wasn't going to be like my family. He didn't try to kill me. But he broke my heart all the same.

She dropped the brooch and smashed it with her foot.

Y/n: The way I see it, you have two choices. You can either go back there, or stay here.

Iris questioned herself. Wondering if she has lost her faith in humanity that stabbed her at almost every turn of her life.

She looks at Y/n.

Iris: I'll help you.

Y/n smirked.

He motioned for her to follow him which she did. The orcs look at them with concern as they walk by.

Y/n went to the blacksmith.

Blacksmith: What can I do for you Y/n?

Y/n: Fit her for some armor will you?

Blacksmith: *confused* If you say so.

Zugor: What in the Shrakh are you up to Y/n?!

Zugor walks up to them.

Zugor: You always have some crazy plans Y/n, but this one is absurd!

Y/n: Zugor. You know as well as I do that revenge is the best motive to switch sides.

Zugor: Humans aren't like us orcs! Betraying someone is common practice in Mordor.

Y/n: That just means we value the rare trust more. Trust me Zugor, I haven't led us astray yet.

Zugor: Fine! But I'm not teaching her anything!

Y/n: Get me  Snafu then.  I'll send her on her first mission with him.

Y/n then faced the blacksmith as he measured Iris.

Y/n: Make sure it's impossible to see any features. I don't want them to know her identity, yet.

The blacksmith nodded.

A few hours later the armor was done.  It fitted well on Iris

Snafu was reluctant but took Iris with him.

They walked towards the besieged fortress.

Snafu: You're friends are making things difficult. They've been ambushing our patrols and supply carriers. We're hunting them.

Iris: Okay.

Snafu: I give you a week.

Iris: For what?

Snafu: To live.

Iris looked at him confused.

Snafu: Even if Y/n likes you, no orc is going to respect you.  They'll want you're head one way or another.

Iris: I'll earn their respect.

Snafu: *sarcastic* Good luck with that.

The two manage to find one of the ambush groups.

Snafu: Just don't die, Y/n will have my head if you die on my watch.

Iris nodded and they charged for the group.

Snafu stopped and began firing his crossbow at the group.

Iris began taking out the group.  She eventually killed all the swordsmen in the group.

Snafu went to shoot one archer. But suddenly his crossbow stopped working.

Snafu: What the shrakh?!

The archer nocked an arrow and was about to fire. But another arrow pierced the archer's neck. The archer dropped his bow and arrow and fell over dead.

Snafu sighed.

Snafu put his crossbow away.

Snafu: Can't hunt with a broken crossbow.

Iris: I suppose you're right.

Snafu: Thanks for the help. I suppose I owe you one.  Doesn't mean I like you though.

Iris: That's okay.

They went back to the camp.

(At the fortress)

Osmond and co prepare a strategy.

Myhlan: I think the fortress is lost.

Osmond: Why do you say that?

Myhlan: The only help we're going to get is the supply boats in two days.   And then we would have to hope that the fleet of Gondor can give us a hand.  They'd rather defend Osgiliath.    They don't care about one orc army when the rest are trying to break through there.

Sonimar: So what do we do?

Myhlan: Run. We leave on the supply ships.

Osmond: I agree. We're losing men daily. The orcs have a constant supply chain. Ours if fractured.

Myhlan: So we agree then?

Osmond: Yes. I will have revenge against Y/n in a different battle.  Revenge for Iris.

(Back at the orc camp)

Grublik: I don't have a problem with what you did Y/n. But I'm not sure she can survive a tribe initiation.

Y/n: She will. She will enjoy an opportunity to find friends that won't stab her in the back.

Grublik: No shortage of that among our crew. But still.

Y/n: You worry too much.

Grublik: Mordor is full of backstabbing orcs.

Y/n: She knows that by now. Snafu will tell her of that I'm sure.

Zunn walks up to them.

Zunn: I don't trust her. If someone can switch sides once, they'll do it again.

Y/n: As long as we don't stab her in the back, we'll be okay.  So I'm making a rule, if anyone tries to kill her, they'll die.

Zunn: Orcs won't like that.

Y/n: They can take it up with me then.  She can tell us more about our enemy.

Moments later Snafu and Iris arrived. They both went straight to Y/n.

Snafu: I'm going to fix my crossbow Y/n. If you want me you'll know where to find me.

Snafu walked away.

Y/n: Tell me something Iris.

Iris looked at him.

Y/n: Do the defenders have help  coming?

Iris: No. The closest thing to help is supply ships coming.

Y/n: How long until they arrive?

Iris: Two days.

Y/n: We'll attack on that day then. They'll be more likely to run for safety.  We need to take the fortress. That'll open up another front to fight from.  Losing too many because they won't give up won't help us. I rather kill them later than lose too many trying to kill them in the fort.

Grublik: Alright.

Y/n: So in two days, we deal our first blow to Gondor. Until then. Let's take out as many as we can before our assault on the fortress.
