Chapter 1: The beginning
A world centralized around money, that cold flexible cash, that anyone with common sense has with them at all times, but now that times had changed, that money has become digital.
In the year 2020 that money had slowly become the main driving force of the world, the sin of Humanity.
Like the devil that gives people power in exchange for their life force, people spend their money in the same manner, to feel that taste of power, be it in owning, gambling, leashing.
We all spend our time earning and yearning more, like Satan himself.
"But I really don't care anymore", Klaus leaned on his expensive gaming chair, with his feet on the table, taking a sip of juice with his left hand.
His room was dark, the blinds blocking out the sunlight, and the potted flowers near his window were wilted.
The room was stifling, the faint hum of the air conditioning the only sound as the glow from his monitors lit up the room.
Klaus scrolls through the forums of new games, while his second monitor auto plays an MMORPG game.
"Ah!", Klaus exclaimed while licking his lips.
Slashing and explosions are heard from Klaus's headphones around his neck.
"C'mon now, let's find some games!", Klaus smiled.
Klaus kept scrolling game after game, with the monitor's shine reflecting off of Klaus's baggy eyes.
" (Sci-fi? I've had enough of those.) ", Klaus thougth to himself while looking at the tags in the forum.
" (Survival, fantasy, hen- nevermind "".) ", Klaus blushed from the though of playing 'those' games again.
Once Klaus opened his eyes, he saw 'it'.
" (Strategy?) ", Klaus's eyes lit up.
"I remember playing those games when I was little, oh all those funny strategies!", He laughed, remembering how he harassed others in games.
"Why not, let's see if there's anything good!", Klaus hurriedly selected the tag and clicked 'search'.
'Refreshing' the page was loading.
One after another, the games appeared. Some with eye catchy titles, while some with really underwhelming titles.
"Manor's? Doesn't look fun.", Klaus scrolled through.
" (No.. No.. No.. What the f-) ", Klaus almost dropped his drink that he held.
He sighed.
"Next.", Klaus ignored an abomination of a game, until...
"What's this? Lord Game...", Klaus didn't like the title, but at the same time, no other titles used the same choice of words as the other games.
Klaus felt that need, that 'want' of wanting to play and harass other players in a strategy game.
" (Shit, no, I'm not playing that, let's just go back to an MMO I have on the next screen.) ", Klaus then pays attention to a red title on his right side.
He swiftly puts down his legs and juice, then Klaus swiftly punches a hole through the monitor, extracting a red and slightly bruised hand.
"Motherfucker"
"DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD I WORKED ON THAT CHARACTER!?", Klaus hit the table with the same hand again, throwing his juice away.
Klaus puts up his legs on his chair and hugs his legs.
" (Motherfucker's, why do I suffer like this, because of you!) ", Klaus felt the tears well up in his eyes.
*Ding, a notification popped up on his remaining monitor with the forum.
"RoosterSucker69?", Klaus red the player tag with a message attached in it.
Klaus lifts his bruised hand from his knees and on to the mouse.
*Click, the message opens up.
"CHECK OUT THIS GAME I FOUND, It's called 'Lord Game', join us man and let us all catch up with each other!", Klaus's weary eyes stared at the message with guilt.
" (My best friend messaged me, which I haven't seen in the past six months, suggesting us to meet up.) ", Klaus gritted his teeth, tears starting to flow up again.
Klaus gets closer to the desk ,with his legs on the chair and beings typing.
"Sorry, I'm busy bro, next time." Klaus sent the message.
They are both best friends with the same friend group, although neither of them are popular with people, they both manage to help each other and enjoy each others company.
In Klaus's case, his best friend has become slightly more popular than before, detaching himself from Klaus, forgetting his upbringing slightly.
"Why do I have to be like this!", Klaus clenched the back of his head, while the other, clenched both of his legs.
"We were once best friends, but I pulled away from him, because he started to grow and mature, unlike me!", Klaus started to cry.
" (You wouldn't understand me anymore, Bolt!) "
*Ding, a new message, from RoosterSucker69.
"Please..."
*Ding, a new message, from RoosterSucker69.
"PLEASE STOP!", Klaus screamed loudly, finding a short relief while breathing heavily.
*Ding, a new message, from RoosterSucker69.
*Ding, a new message, from RoosterSucker69.
Klaus throws his chair to the side and falls into his mattress, covering himself up with the sheets.
" (Why, why don't you just leave me behind, dumbass!) ", Klaus lifted the sheet over himself, only to find himself drowsy.
" (Leave me behind, just, leave-) ", Klaus's eyes felt heavy, and he fell into a deep sleep.
Klaus finds himself to be disgusting as he falls sleep, imagining his first and last meeting with Bolt.
Klaus wakes up in a school, when he was 15, sitting in the back of his class, his white school uniform, a ragged mess, uneven, but clean.
"Psst!", a boy near him whispered.
"Hey!", the boy did not give up trying to get Klaus's attention.
The boy tugged on Klaus's shirt.
Klaus snapped out of his daydream, his heart racing. No one ever talked to him. Not like this.
"W-what?", Klaus nervously asked, as it was their first time conversing with each other.
"Wanna be friends?", the boy asked.
"... Huh?", Klaus confusingly asked.
"Like, I meant, let's go hang out sometimes, play games!", the boy whispered nervously and excitedly, as he noticed that Klaus also played games on his phone in the breaks between classes.
"S-sure!", Klaus, happy to have gotten his first friend smiled.
After that happy incident, the two boys spent almost all their time together, be it in physical form, or digital.
Klaus then finds himself in another dream, the last meeting he had with Bolt, six months prior.
"Sorry bro, I'm kind of busy "".", Bolt replied to Klaus on the phone.
Klaus, sitting alone on his chair, with his game ready to load, he replied.
"Oh, nevermind then, next time?", Klaus felt lonely, as they have not been spending much time recently.
Feeling Bolt's growth and maturity, he felt down and had gotten more depressed.
Klaus has not left his room in two months, only to occasionally bathe and clean his clothes.
"Surely bro!", Klaus could feel the positive energy form over the phone.
Klaus hangs up.
He stares at the game called 'Fish Royale' with empty eyes, then heads to bed.
" (That's right, I have only regressed in the society, while Bolt, had been working hard to be where he is today, unlike me.) "
Klaus wakes up from his dream, awaken by the alarm for three pm.
He picks up his cracked old phone, and checks the time.
"Ugh, time to find a job.", Klaus stands up, puts on new clean clothes which he had never wore before, because these clothes were meant for such an occasion, to find a job.
Klaus heads out his room and to the bathroom, brush his teeth, which are still a little yellowy, get his hands wet and swipe it up and down from his hair, then clean his head with a towel.
Klaus looks in the mirror.
" (I'm ready!) ", although Klaus is lazy, he wanted to finally experience a job, because he had been living off of his parents money for the past 2 years.
Klaus sets off from his apartment which he had leashed, and to the elevator.
" (Current floor 11) ", Klaus pushes the number one button and the elevator starts moving.
"Should I really go for it?", Klaus nervous, about heading to the outside in a long time, not wanting to meet other people, thinks about turning back.
*Ding, floor one, the elevator notified Klaus of the arrival, steps out from the inside of the elevator, out into the main floor.
Klaus's heart beats nervously at the sight of others as he walks by them crouched, to the entrance of the apartment complex.
The couple, carrying a grocery bag just moved past him, creeped out by Klaus's behavior.
The door opens, and Klaus stops once he closes the door.
"I'm finally outside...", Klaus worriedly check out his suit, if it's all even and nice.
He sweeps the dust off of his shoulders and off of his chest, then straightens up, to notice a man in green suit with sunglasses standing in front of him, as if waiting impatiently.
Klaus then notices that he had blocked the entrance with his body and moves to the side, letting the person through.
*Thud, the door closes behind the suited man.
Klaus pulled out his cracked phone.
"(Let's get the map.)" His hands shook, wet with sweat from the sudden confrontation.
The phone slips and cracks.
"No!", Klaus quickly examined the phone, only for it to show a multitude of cracks on the display.
"Fuck me!", he exclaimed silently, placing the broken phone into his pocket.
" (I'll have to go to the place from memory, otherwise It would be too uncomfortable to ask other people for directions to the restaurant.) ", Klaus's sighs, because of his continuous misfortune.
"Let's just continue on-", Klaus's self motivating speech was cut short, because of a couple of kids running into him, and pushing him down to the road.
" (What's going on?) ", Klaus asked himself as he was falling down on to the traffic.
*Honk, the car signals, before inevitably, turning to the side and causing and incident with another cat, avoiding Klaus.
Klaus, stuck to the ground in fear, slowly lifts his head up, to see the two people that drove the cars in their windshields, with blood flowing down.
Klaus starts breathing heavily, pupils contrasting in fear and shock.
Klaus lifts himself off of the road, throwing the crying kids on his back to the side of the ride and runs into the apartment complex stairway.
He rushes to his room, remembering the vivid scene of the car crash.
Afraid of being put in jail, he runs up to 11th floor, where his room is located.
He keeps running and reaches the floor, then rushes down the hallway to his room, his key's shaking out of fear.
He unlocks the room, enters and shoves the door shut and runs to his room, to his bed.
His heart, weakened by his past, becomes his downfall.
His heart stops...
"Goo-o", Klaus grasps his heart with both hands, trying to breath in.
" (W-what's happening?) ", Klaus thinks to himself as he feels the pain start to subside, and his consciousness fade.
"F-fuck...", Klaus's eyes roll back into his head, tears sullying his bed sheets, his memories, like a flood, gushing in.
"M-m-mo-om!", Klaus reaches his hand out while gritting.
Alas.
It was too late.
