"i dont need no garden of eden." -one & only
gowon pov
"hello! welcome to one & only," you greeted me.
i looked up and smiled at you. you smiled back.
you walked out from behind the cash register to be next to me and turned your head to look at me.
"is it your first time taking care of a plant?"
"no. i used to go to another place, but they didn't really do much i guess," i explained briefly.
"then is there any sort of flower you're looking for?"
i put my hand on my chin while thinking.
"not really, i guess. just trying to find a flower to keep alive," i answered.
you scanned the plants across the room while humming slightly.
"you don't seem like a cactus person," you told me, observing my face.
i made a wry face and you laughed.
"cute. anyways, i would recommend the lavender plant. it seems to suit you somehow," you informed me.
"and how does it suit me?"
"you seem very... elegant? the color lavender is very royal in general, but the flower represents grace and purity."
i slightly gaped at the information you knew. the place i usually went to never said anything. it was like they had no interest, unlike you. i really liked that.
"so, are you interested?"
without realizing, i nodded my head, and you gave me a smile. your hands carefully picked up a pot with the lavender flowers in it.
"these don't need to be watered often. if you do, they'll end up dying, but you can always come back here, alright?"
i nodded again, admiring you.
"any questions? or is everything good?"
"everything's fine. thank you for helping me here," i replied.
"thank you for coming. it's not everyday i see someone so pretty," you slightly flirted.
i giggled and blushed slightly, handing my card over to try to distract you. i paid for my new lavender plant and was about to leave.
"wait!"
i looked back and saw you holding a flower.
"take this. consider it a gift," you said, holding the flower out.
i looked at it curiously as you urged me to take it.
"well? are you gonna take it?"
"what is it?"
"a flower."
"well duh."
you chuckled at me.
"if you can, bring it in next time you come here. if it dies, then it's fine. i'll still tell you, but you have to make sure to come back, even if it's just to talk."
it seemed like you wanted a new beginning. i was content with that. i needed one too.
i smiled brightly.
"i will!"
i pushed the door open again, looking back at you to see you waving and smiling at me. i waved back and exited.
content with my trip outside, i went back home and up to my room. i placed my newly received plant on my window sill.
i looked around for the flower you gave me. i think i left it on the table downstairs.
i went down to check and it was there like i suspected.
soon enough, the bright yellow flower you had given me was in a glass cup filled with water.
the flower looked familiar. i had seen it multiple times at garden of eden, which was the old place i used to go to.
seeing my lack of knowledge on plants, you could probably tell that i don't know much about these green things... and how the workers at garden of eden were bad.
i was hoping to have another excuse to go to your shop as soon as i could, even if you said i could drop by.
i know you said that i could come by without a reason, but come on. i'd feel bad. or maybe...
carrying the glass cup, i headed back upstairs and placed it close to my window. i admired the flower, appreciating its vibrant yellow.
yellow is a nice color. this flower is a nice flower... in the end, can't i just google what flower this is?
no! i have to wait, so i can see you again... and hopefully another time after that...?
let's not get too greedy here, park chaewon.
time must have passed quickly because it had already become nighttime. the stars and the moon were painted onto the sky.
lots of people prefer the daylight. i guess they like seeing the sun shine, clouds float, stuff like that.
i think i was more of a night person though because
the starlights are so pretty, too.
i wonder what time of day you liked.
maybe day because you enjoyed plants? maybe night because it would have been a sort of reversal charm? or maybe you just liked all times of the day?
let's just... go to sleep, chaewon.
somehow, i got lucky and had a good night of rest. thankfully, my morning routine was like it was usually, except i checked up on my flowers.
you told me that i didn't need to water my lavender plant often, but i had no clue when it was last watered. for now, i'll leave it be and ask you when i visit today.
i put on a plain white dress with a pair of white socks that would end a little bit above my ankles. i grabbed my phone and wallet before putting on mary jane shoes that were slightly, just very slightly heighted... maybe take out the slightly.
anyways, i skipped over to a convenience store that was on the way there. i looked at the many displayed drinks and pondered.
"milk maybe? yeah, but some people don't like milk... would it be weird to buy an aloe drink? darn... coffee? maybe..."
i sighed and just grabbed the first six drinks i saw and paid for it.
i walked over to one & only and saw you watering some plants. i wanted to sneak in quickly, but there was a bell at the door, so the attempt was failed.
you turned around and smiled at me.
"you're back," you gleamed with a bright smile.
"ah. yeah," i awkwardly responded.
"didn't catch your name last time."
"oh. it's chaewon. park chaewon."
"fitting. dressed like the flowers you got last time. the lavenders," you told me as you looked at my outfit.
"you were dressed like a little bean last time. yellow sweater and wide jeans."
i pouted and you laughed.
"is there a reason you came back? or did you just wanna be here?"
"sort of both. i also bought a few drinks. i didn't know what you liked, so i could've gone a bit overboard," i told you shyly.
you simply smiled at me.
"you can place it on the counter. if you want, there's a chair behind the cash register."
i listened to you and sat down. you finished watering the rest of the plants and placed the can somewhere.
"so, uh... i was wondering when the lavenders were watered. i didn't want to overwater it like you told me."
"oh, that. since they were already established into the soil a while ago, you could probably water them every two to three weeks, starting probably today."
i nodded and awed.
"once the buds sprout, water them once or twice each week."
i nodded, making mental notes on the information you gave me, which i honestly could have googled. then, another question popped up in my head.
"also, what were the flowers you gave me last time?"
you knowingly smiled to yourself.
"those were daffodils. they symbolize a bunch of good things like new beginnings, happiness, that sort of stuff."
time just flew by when i was with you in one & only.
we parted our ways and i watered the lavenders once i got home safely. it had been about four days since our last interaction and during that time, the lavenders transformed and sprouted.
also, between those four days, i had done research and found out that lavender satchels make great gifts! i wanted to make you one as a thanks for showing me a new world.
i joyfully skipped towards one and only and knocked on the glass, opening the door right after.
"hi," i greeted.
"hm? oh, chaewon! what's up?"
"just decided to come by and give you something."
"really? what is it?"
"close your eyes and hold your hands out," i teased.
"yes ma'am."
i placed the satcheled lavenders in your hand and you opened your eyes, smiling immediately after.
that's when i realized, i didn't need no garden of eden. i only needed the one & only.
