"wake up, yerim! you're gonna be late to class," you attempted waking me up.
"i'm up! i'm up," i screamed, eyes still closed and body still in bed.
"pffft. you say you're up, but you're still in bed."
i raised both my arms up, stretching them.
"i'm up. look," i tried proving.
"your eyes are still closed."
i heard you sit on my bed and sigh.
"time for plan b then."
"huh- hUK!"
i jolted up, or tried to, but you were laying on my stomach. you started rolling on top of me before i pushed you off my bed. you were laughing to yourself hysterically.
"that hurt," i complained.
"yeah, but it woke you up! desperate times call for desperate measures."
"it wasn't even that desperate!"
"what do you mean? you're gonna be late for your class," you reminded me.
"oh shoot. well, what about your class?"
"we got a day off, but it's for our homework. got told to 'go outside and observe people then talk to them.' teacher never specified if we had to know them or not, so i'm planning on observing people i know."
"lucky. beats having to go to classes only to learn nothing," i told you.
"i'll wait for you outside your class. what time does it end?"
"probably around 12:30? i don't really know if i'm being honest," i told you.
"alright. i'll figure it out somehow. now get ready! you're gonna be late."
i looked at the time and yes. you were right. i was going to be late. very late if i didn't hurry.
i looked towards you and you were already closing my door. i quickly changed and grabbed my bags. i headed downstairs and saw a plate of toast.
"it's not much, but at least take a toast before you leave. there's some money on the counter too. take that and buy something from a store nearby if you want," you told me from the kitchen.
even if i was rushing, i sprinted into the kitchen to catch one glimpse at you and thank you.
"thanks! also, you better wait for me at my class," i reminded you.
"could never forget. have a good day, yerim! i'll see you soon," you told me like a mother on her child's first day.
i closed the door and headed to the bus stop. a few minutes later, the bus came and i arrived at school.
class went by fairly quickly. i wasn't really thinking, so i guess it should have?
i rushed out the door along with everyone else. the halls were crowded, so looking for you would be hard. eventually, it cleared up, but you weren't here.
i waited.
i waited for about 5 minutes, which wasn't that long, before you came. you were holding a bag of some sort and carried one on your back too.
"sorry i'm late," you panted out.
i guess you ran here.
"it's fine! i wasn't even waiting that long," i reassured you.
you opened the bag you were holding and showed me what was inside. food and drinks. and a lot.
"i figured that you wouldn't buy yourself anything before class, so i made a lunch and went to the nearby store for some food, just in case you wanted something else," you gleamed at me.
that was... a lot of food.
"i think it's a little too much for me," i nervously told you.
"how about we go on a mini-picnic instead of me forcing it all down," i suggested.
"i had a feeling you would say that, but the thing is... i had a little, tiny snack before i came here," you confessed.
i blinked my eyes once. then twice.
'you had a feeling that i would say that' and still ate? i mean, if your stomach says you're hungry, then you eat, so i can't really blame you.
"that's... that's fine! i can eat, but you better have some with me. i don't care if you're full or not," i warned you.
you laughed and started walking towards the park. i merely watched you until you called my name.
"yerim! come on," you hollered.
like a magnet, i managed to be right by your side almost instantly. our walk to the park was comfortable. we talked about random things like usual.
quickly, we arrived at the park. we headed towards the slight hill and got to the top. you took your backpack off and pulled out a blanket.
"how? why? for what reason do you casually have a blanket in your backpack," i asked, pausing after each question.
"a picnic," you said, after pausing for a few moments, then nodding your head furiously.
you quickly set up the blanket and i put the bag filled with food on it. you sat down on the blanket and so did i.
while sitting down, i felt a little uncomfortable due to my shorts. they were exposing my legs a little too much.
you took your jacket off and threw it at me. i looked at you and you nodded.
"thanks and sorry. the classrooms are usually pretty hot even in spring, so i didn't bring my own jacket," i thanked and apologized.
"it's nothing. let's eat now," you casually said.
i covered my legs with your jacket and started eating first. you started eating as well, shortly after.
i went for the sandwich first. when i took my first bite, you were looking at me.
"this is really good!"
"is it?"
"yeah! did you make it?"
you shyly smiled.
"i did."
i took a bite out of a different sandwich.
"did you make this too?"
"nope. got that one from the store."
"no wonder it didn't taste as good-"
your face turned red.
"i should become a chef. gordon ramsay, i'm coming," you said, yelling the gordon ramsay part.
"if you're gonna become a chef, be my personal one," i said jokingly.
"maybe i will. or maybe i could just become your spouse," you replied smoothly.
i choked. not really. i stared at you blankly, and then your face started turning red again.
"i should be arrested for saying that. why did i say that? what have i done? this ain't it, chief," you mumbled to yourself quickly.
i bursted out laughing at your slight panic over a pick-up line.
we continued eating after that... moment and packed up to leave.
in order to digest, we walked around and sat on a bench for a while. turns out that "a while" was a few hours because it got dark.
i slightly shivered in my seat even with the jacket you gave me earlier. i crossed my legs to try to keep warm, but it only worked to a certain extent.
suddenly, you took another jacket out of your bag and covered my legs. you moved closer to me as well. it took a while, but i started feeling warm again.
we stayed quiet, enjoying our time together. i looked back on the day and started thinking about all the little, yet genuine and polite things you did.
waking me up, leaving my room without me asking you, making toast, leaving money on the table, picking me up from class, packing me food, giving me your jacket twice, keeping me warm.
you know, although i don't say anything.
