Chapter 26

Stepping off the submarine, Nadia hears her cousin let out a shout of relief from being stuck in a chair for several hours. Starla seems to be up and about too, bouncing around Mabel as she safely exits the submarine. The redhead chastises the Loomian however, having been worried lest it falls into the water by accident.

"So this is Atlanthian City?" Jake marvels at the structure of the city. Where they are now is apparently the Transit Hub (helpfully provided by Musa), an enclosed two-leveled dome with openings on either side to let in or out vehicles. Musa nods as her response as she makes sure everyone leaves the submarine safely.

"Yep! The Transit Hub connects Atlanthian City's two districts together. Although, there is a fast travel option that connects to each other as well." Musa explains. "The entertainment district is where all the stores are. There's restaurants, lottery shops, an arcade, and the Battle Theatre. As for the housing district, that's where the Atlanthian Park is located. It's at the very center, so it's surrounded by all the houses and apartments."

"So does that mean we can visit your place, Musa?" Nadia quips in excitedly. Angel whips her head towards them at the thought of staying over.

"Well," Musa trails off, "we should probably take care of things here before we do that. Sorry to dash your hopes..." She adds when she sees the two deflate. Nadia perks back up before Angel does.

"No, you're right. We should make sure the tablet piece isn't anywhere near the city first, then retrieve it." She turns towards the direction she thinks the entertainment district is in, but before she could take a step, the ground begins to shake. Nadia lets out a yelp as she begins to lose her balance, but Jake and Zinx manage to catch her before she fell. The earthquake becomes stronger as they all heard a bellowing noise ringing through their ears.

"What was that?!" Mabel yells, shielding Starla in case debris comes flying at them. Musa grips onto the railing with one hand as she covers her right ear with the other, and Nadia, Jake, and Zinx all struggle to balance themselves amidst the shaking. Lucy and Lucas grab Angel and drop to the floor in an attempt to not be thrown in the air, with Lucy gripping the railing hard and motioning for Lucas and Angel to do the same.

"That cry sounded familiar...is that Moldecca?!" Musa shouts all of a sudden, making Jake whip his head towards her.

"What's a Moldecca?!"

Finally the earthquake stopped and everything gradually returned to normal. Everyone took a moment to breathe before Jake asked his question again.

"Musa? You mentioned 'Moldecca'. Who...is that, exactly?" Musa turns to face Jake, suddenly remembering what she forgot.

"Right, I forgot to tell you guys...Moldecca." She steps away from the railing. "You see, Moldecca's a Loomian that resides outside the city's dome. It wasn't always there, though."

Musa motions for everyone to move away from the railing and closer to the main walkway before continuing her explanation. "Several years ago, it showed up nearby and had kept close to the city ever since. No one knows why it's here or where it used to live. We were first a bit wary of an attack, but it never came. Instead, Moldecca's circled around us as if it's trying to protect the city. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be farther away than it is now, with how loud that cry is. I wonder what happened..."

"It's not supposed to be this close?" Lucas asks. "So this occurrence was recent..."

"I was out of the city by the time this happened. I'm assuming it started a few weeks ago or so." Musa adds on.

"We should ask someone about the situation." Jake suggests. He spots a dock worker a few steps away and goes to call him over.

"What seems to be the problem?" The worker asks. Mabel decides to initiate the conversation this time.

"Sorry to bother you, sir, but we just heard that loud cry from nearby, and we've confirmed it was from Moldecca but we don't know why." Mabel tries to explain. The worker listens closely and nods.

"I see, you're new to the city, right?" Most of them nod in confirmation. "Yes, it started occurring a few weeks ago. Moldecca just suddenly began to behave completely different to how it used to. It started circling the city closer than it ever was before, which is why the cries you heard were so close by. Nobody knows why it's acting up, so I cannot provide information on that, unfortunately. However, you should be alright within the dome. It's designed to withstand oceanic pressure as strong as it is on the ocean bed, so if Moldecca decides to attack at all, the dome should handle it. In the meantime, you guys enjoy your time here." The worker smiles at them and directs them to a map of the city before he returns to his work.

Jake looks to them after thanking the worker for the explanation. "Okay, I think we should figure out our next destination from the map." He begins analyzing the screen closely, so Mabel decides to do the same.

"We're in the Transit Hub right now, and we want to expand our investigation. So I suggest some of us go to the housing district and the rest of us go to the entertainment district." Lucas pipes up. Musa nods in agreement.

"Ooh, then I want to go to the entertainment district! I see an arcade there." Angel points to the exact spot the arcade is.

"We're not there to play games, though, so remember that." Nadia chides her cousin.

"Nah, it's okay, we can figure things out." Zinx responds. "I'll go ask around and Angel can tag in when she wants to."

Nadia raises an eyebrow, disbelieving, but decides not to pursue the matter. Looking around, she finally finds what she was looking for. "There's the Battle Theatre!" She points to the circular building across a bridge past the arcade.

"Yeah, we need to go there at some point so you guys can get your medals. Oh, and there's the museum!" Lucy points to a building further back. "We should find something there."

"Good idea." Mabel quips.

Jake steps back, tapping Nadia on the back. She turns around, curious. "What's up?"

"I think now would be a good time to call your parents. The city's really big, so we probably don't know where to start, even with our guide." Jake explains to Nadia. "Also, if they have updates on where the tablet may be, that'd be helpful information for us."

"Hmm...I see what you mean. Hold on, lemme call them." Tapping on her watch, Nadia pulls up the call which prompts everyone to crowd around her.

"Hey, Champ!" Nadia's father greets her. "How are things going out there?"

"Going good," Nadia replies, "We just got to Atlanthian."

"Oh, I see! I'm glad you made it safely." Her dad finally notices the extra four people grouped around Nadia. "Are these your new friends?" He asks, to which Nadia smiles and nods. She introduces to him Jake, Mabel, Lucy, and Lucas, whom all greet the man enthusiastically (Well, Jake has a little less zeal to him, but that's probably because he's in his serious mode right now).

"It's nice to meet you, sir." Jake bows slightly. "We heard about your predicament with the stone tablet and decided to help Nadia get them back for you." He explains.

"I see! We appreciate any help we can get." Nadia's father smiles.

"Nadia!" Her mother yells in the background. "Are you doing well out there?"

"Yes, I am!" Nadia exclaims back when her father directs the watch towards her mother.

"Good. You better be flossing, young lady." She chides Nadia, who shrieks at the statement. Lucy chuckles in the background.

"In any case, it puts my mind at ease knowing Nadia has more friends to help out on this difficult mission. If my wife and I weren't busy trying to unveil the mystery behind this dark, infectious power, we'd probably be right there with you guys." Her dad chuckles. "Anyway. For now, though, I'll do everything in my power to assist you from the lab. I assume that's what you called me for, no?"

Jake and Nadia nod. "Yes, actually." Jake speaks, "We heard from Nadia about you tracking the potential locations of the stone tablet chunks. We wanted to know if you could scan for signs of a piece in or around Atlanthian."

Nadia's father nods. "Yes, I've actually managed to track a signal near the city earlier in the week, but somehow lost it a few days ago."

Everyone's eyes widen at this. "So there is a chunk here," Musa quips.

"Yes, I believe so. However, the ocean is far too deep for me to maintain signal from Mitis Town." The man thinks for a moment. He faces away from the watch's camera. "Hey, honey, what do you think?"

"Hm? Well, I'd say direct them to the museum in Atlanthian." Nadia's mother calls to them.

"Ah, not a bad idea," Her father replies. He turns back to Nadia. "Okay, have you kids heard of Atlanthian Museum?"

Musa raises her hand. "I've been there a few times!" She says. Nadia's father nods in contemplation.

"I see. Can you direct the rest of them to the museum? I have an old friend who works there and may be able to help with our predicament. I'll try to set something up with him to track the tablet directly from the city." He suggests. Musa nods.

"I understand!"

"That's progress!" Nadia exclaims.

"Yes, in fact, while you're there, he may even be able to give you a museum tour if you'd like. Now, if you'll give me a little time, I'll have to talk with him now to get things set up." Nadia's father explains. Jake leans back, thinking about something.

"Well, in the meantime, we can explore the city and ask for anything suspicious." He suggests. Nadia's father nods in agreement.

"That's a perfect idea. Spend some time exploring, then head to the museum. Hopefully, I have everything settled by then." He's about to end call when he remembers something. "Oh, and all seven of you, thank you for lending your help to the both of us."

"Of course!" Jake replies enthusiastically. Oh, he's no longer in serious mode.

"Take care, Champ." Nadia nods. "Bye for now, guys."

The call ends with a resounding click.
