Chapter 16 A Very Special New Year
A/n: hope you enjoy! Just so you know when Trystan is around some of his friends he comes back to his old self and so there's a glimpse of that in this chapter.
A couple of days before I was supposed to go on that date with Trystan, I met up with Sarah for a coffee.
I sat down with a cup in my hand, opposite her. I swallowed hard and she frowned at me, not knowing what was up.
"He asked you out, isn't that what you wanted?" She asked, I shook my head trying to convince her I was fine but she wouldn't give up.
"Of course it was what I wanted but... He was acting strange, like when I first met him. I agreed to go on that date but what if he isn't what he's been acting all this time what if the way he is, is the way I first met and not the person I think I know, Sarah?" I asked. "He was annoyed at the fact that I was asking about his 'bad boy reputation' saying 'it's not like you're my girlfriend', he was a damn jerk, just like I first met him. Then he apologised." I said, "ugh I can't figure him out Sarah. What do I do?"
"Go on the date with him and if he ever acts like a jerk, throw a drink over him and leave." She said simply, smirking.
"You just want me to do that anyway, don't you?"
"Considering the way he's acted towards you more than once, yes. I don't know whether to believe him about being nice or not, it's too sketchy, I mean I let it work for you but now he's acting like that again, he's got to be faking it! It must be an act."
"Maybe, but what he's said about his dad? It's true, I know it is, I can tell what he said is true." I said.
She raised an eyebrow, "Jessie, you can't tell when someone is lying it's not like your Emma Swan." She said, shaking her head.
"Why do you think she's my favourite character in that show?" I asked, "I've always had a feeling I can tell when people are telling the truth or not and so can she." I shrugged.
"You can have a feeling but you can't tell when someone is lying unless they cannot lie, alright? It's basically impossible." She said.
"Fine, but I believe him so that's th..." I trailed off as I saw Trystan and a few of his friends. None of those friends, were Josh. I put down my cup and looked at Sarah straight in the eye, "he's here," I mumbled.
"What?" She asked, I glanced over to Trystan then back at her silently telling her that Trystan was here. She turned around and saw him with friends before immediately turning back to face me. "Shit." She whispered.
"What the hell do I do?!" I whispered harshly.
"Unless he comes over do nothing let him come to you don't you go to him, you always go to him." She said and I nodded, putting my head down so he wouldn't see me or at least I hoped but I was wrong and he did see me.
He smirked and walked over to me, his friends following behind, "oh hey Jess... I mean geek, what are you doing here?" He asked.
I looked up at him and glared at him. He never used the nickname except for a joke between us, but this time it felt like he meant it. "I'm having a coffee with my friend, problem, jerk?" I replied. He looked at me showing no emotion in his body but I could see in his eyes that he was hurt.
"No problem though I'm still wondering why someone like you would be friends with a normal girl like her, when you're, you know not." He said, and that was it. I got off my seat, and slapped him.
"What the hell is wrong with you!" I exclaimed, "when you're around your friends do you not care about anything but your reputation?" I shook my head, exasperated, "I really thought I could trust you, I really did, but how can I and after everything? I can't believe I ever liked you, that you could ever change!"
"Calm down drama queen." One of his friends said, a girl, "it's not like he actually cares about you." She snickered.
"Fuck you." I whispered to Trystan and walked off, Sarah running after me.
"Are you okay?" She asked, as she came after me. I nodded.
"Maybe you were right, maybe he hasn't changed." I whispered, "I can't believe I was actually falling hard for him."
"I'm going back in there and telling him to come apologise otherwise he's finished." Sarah said, and rushed off, I went to stop her but she was gone by the time I tried.
Sarah
I stormed in there before Jessie could stop me, and went up to him, my face red with fury.
"You go out there and apologise to her right now, or you won't just have a red cheek!" I fumed. "Why all of a sudden do you changed when you're around people that are your friends, when she's the person you're supposed to really like?" I asked, "you said to me you'd never hurt her, so what changed Trystan?"
"Nothing changed Sarah, I..." He trailed off as he looked at his friends, before dragging me away so they couldn't hear, "they made me do it, they found out that I was going on a date and I denied it, they didn't believe me and told me whenever I saw her I had to act like I hated her." He admitted. "I didn't mean to make her cry, she's probably the best thing that's happened to me, I can't lose her."
"You will lose her," I said, "unless you get your act straight and apologise and tell your 'friends' you actually do like her, you'll lose her for good. She was scared you changed after you snapped at her at the party, and I said you never changed from being horrible to nice, not really." I shook my head. "Go to her, she needs you, you probably don't realise it, but she does more than she needs anyone else right now."
"What's happened?" He asked.
"Nothing's happened but I think something might happen like it did the last time if you don't get your priorities straight and apologise to her, but she's really confused and upset." I said.
He sighed, "I'm so stupid," he muttered before going over to his friends with me. "Guys I do like her, what you made me do was horrible, yes I shouldn't have gone along with it, but just because she likes different things doesn't mean she's any different to us. She's a human being who has feelings. Now if you excuse me I'm going to see if she's okay." And with that he walked away, I watched him shocked.
I turned to them, "You ever insult my best friend again, I swear to God I will do something I regret." I spat before walking away to catch up with Trystan.
Trystan
I went outside and saw Jessie standing there, staring into space, I went over to her and looked into her eyes, they seemed lost. "Jess?" I whispered, "Jessie." She snapped out of whatever she was doing and looked straight at me.
"W-what do you want?" She asked, she looked scared and confused. "Why are you here?" She whispered.
"I came to apologise I'm so sorry for what I said, I know it's not an excuse for what I did, but they made me prove that I didn't like you after I denied about what they heard about us going out. I don't know why I did it, it was so stupid and I don't want to lose you, please, please can you forgive me?" I asked, pleading in my voice. She looked at me, obviously looking for some kind of truth in what I said, she then hugged me.
I sighed in relief knowing it was a sign of she believed me and I was forgiven. I wrapped my arms around her and she buried her head in my chest.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I pulled away to look at her,
"Why are you sorry you didn't do anything."
"I slapped you, remember?"
"Yes, but I deserved it, I was a jerk." I said.
"You better not make me regret this," she whispered, "I almost decided to cancel the date."
"Well if you did I would've understood especially after what I did. It was inexcusable."
"Yes, everyone makes mistakes." She leaned up and kissed my cheek, "I don't care I'm going out with you whether you like it or not." She giggled.
"Of course I like it, I love it." I looked at her so intensely, and she blushed making her giggle more. "Your giggle is so adorable."
"Thank you." She said. We stared at each other a little longer before Sarah cleared her throat.
"Looks like the love birds have made up." She smiled slightly, "do you wanna finish your drink Jess?" She asked her, to which Jessie nodded. She looked back at me and pecked me on the lips.
"I know we're not together, but your lips are kinda irresistible." She whispered in my ear, before she pulled away grinning and went back into the shop with Sarah.
And I was left there, not knowing what to do next.
Jessie
I sat back down opposite Sarah and sighed, grinning at her.
"Someone's very happy for what just happened in the last ten minutes." She said, smirking at me.
"Shut up, let me enjoy my got cocoa and then we can go, okay? Let me enjoy my happiness for at least two minutes." I moaned. She laughed and rolled her eyes.
I texted my mum about five minutes after we finished and she picked us up, dropping Sarah home.
I didn't talk to Trystan until the night of a date, at least not face to face, we still text each other, it was our thing.
The night of the date, I knew we were going to our local pub to celebrate New Years but I had a feeling he was planning more than that.
I said, "mum I'll see you there with Trystan, if we're going somewhere else first." I smiled and hugged her just as the door bell rung.
I opened the door and smiled at him, he looked different, "You look..." I trailed off before he nodded,
"I know, you look breathtaking, Jessie." He said.
I bowed my head, "Thank you. Are we going somewhere first before we go celebrate New Years?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yep, we're going out to dinner." He grinned.
"It's a good thing I dressed up then, isn't it?" I raised an eyebrow and he smirked.
"Come on," he said, as we walked outside I saw a car waiting for us. "Don't worry it's not my mum this time, more like someone we don't know is driving us."
I suddenly stopped. "Wait, you hired this car? To go on a date with me?" I asked him, I was so touched and smiled at him.
"Of course I wanted it to be special," he whispered.
"But how can you afford something like this?" I asked,
"My dad, he may be an arsehole, but he's got money, he gives me some of that money each month, I've been saving it up for something special, so I thought why not? Come on get in the car and we can get to dinner." He opened the door and I stepped inside, he followed suit.
Soon we arrived at the restaurant and sat down at our seats where we were allocated to sit.
A waitress came round to serve us to see what we wanted to drink.
"I'll have a Irn Bru please and Jessie..?" He looked at me,
"I'll have the same thanks." I smiled and the waitress took down our orders, telling us to call her when we were ready to order our food.
Soon we ordered the food, I ordered a hamburger and chips and Trystan ordered some kind of pasta.
Half way through eating the waitress came over to us,
"Do you guys want anything else?" She asked us, well I say us, when she was actually just admiring Trystan in his blue suit, I rolled my eyes.
"No we're good," Trystan said, not bothering to look at her but smiling at me.
The waitress huffed and walked away.
I took a sip of my drink and shook my head, "she was going all googly eyes on you." I muttered, could this get anymore cliché? I asked myself.
"I know," he said casually, "but I don't care." I looked up at him,
"You don't care?" I asked, "and why don't you care?"
"Because I only 'have eyes' for one person." He shrugged, and he eyed me knowingly. I looked down, blushing and smiled at him.
"Come on let's finish and we can spend the rest of time with your family." He said. I nodded and started to finish my dinner.
Soon we were finished and since it was our first date Trystan insisted on paying.
"Alright, but just this once." I said, he winked at me before he gave a waiter the money and we were picked up by our driver and brought to my family's local pub.
We got out and walked into the pub, before Trystan walked in behind me he nodded at the driver telling him to pick us up around one o'clock.
Once we were there I hugged my parents, but since I knew a lot of people there, I was teased, at least by the adults.
"Please shut up!" I moaned, I grabbed Trystan's hand, "come on let's go away." I said.
I groaned as I sat down. Trystan sat next to me, "calm down." He said, "it's nothing to be embarrassed about, relax."
I rolled my eyes, "fine, I guess that's what you get knowing people that go to local pub to you." I muttered.
As it was closing nearer midnight, I was dreading it more and more.
Soon it was 11:59 and the countdown was starting. Trystan nudged me, "the countdown is starting let's go watch." He said, I nodded and got up with him.
As we arrived and watched the countdown, it was getting to the last ten seconds, and everyone was counting down.
"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... HAPPY NEW YEAR." We all shouted and everyone started hugging and couples kissed.
Before I knew it Trystan had turned me around and started kissing me. It was unexpected but boy was it good.
I slowly pulled away and smiled at him, my forehead resting against his, "well that was unexpected," I said as my eyes started to open again.
"Well I guess this was a very special new year indeed." He smirked, and I playfully pushed him.
"Happy New Year." I whispered.
"Happy New Year to you too, darling." He whispered, his voice husky, and with that he kissed me again.
