Chapter 3 -Looking Through A New Window
Terrance Point of View
On that Monday morning, my mother Jenny comes home from the grocery store with some food for me.
"What you get me today?" I asked while sniffing the air. "Apples and bananas." *Sniff, sniff* "And DONUTS!" I continued.
"How did you know I brought donuts?" Jenny smirked.
"I still have the other four of my senses. Especially smell." I said while touching my nose and laughing.
"You have the nose of a bloodhound, Terry," Jenny said to Terrance while laughing.
"I guess I do. Did you get me my coffee?" I asked Jenny while sniffing the air.
"I knew I forgot something. No, I didn't. I'm sorry Terry." She said while grabbing a plate for her donut.
"Aw, I'll have to get it myself then," I said while grabbing my cane.
"No, you don't have to. I'll just go back and get your coffee," Jenny said while grabbing her car keys, and started to head out the door.
"No, it's ok, I need the exercise," Terrance smirked and then grabbed his jacket and headed out the door.
"Bye honey, stay safe," Jenny said while I walked outside.
I've been living in my little town of Kansas City all my life. I've known the streets like the back of my hand (even though I can't see my hands). Likewise, I stumbled out of my house and down the street. I reached the pizza shop. I could tell by the smell of greasy cheese pizza in the air, I then passed the nail salon and the hair salon, and then I was finally one block away from the coffee shop. Suddenly I heard a girl calling for me.
I tried to reach out to her to see where she was. I asked her where she was, and she grabbed my hand. Likewise, I and the girl talked about how I was blind, and then suddenly it started to rain. The girl grabbed my cane and guided me somewhere, wherever she was taking me it smelled dusty and an old place. It was dry from the rain and that's all I cared about.
The smell was quite present in the rain. The sounds of the rain hitting against the roof of what seems to be an old house. I could smell mold, dust, and... Rat poop. This place made me sick and, disgusted. But, I wasn't going to tell the girl that. When I heard a crack of a door shutting, I used my hand to find the girl and then grabbed my cane back from her and asked her what her name was. She told me her name was Kate Cessalee.
My heart was pounding so hard in my chest. I had butterflies in my stomach, and I had sweaty hands, what was this feeling? Am I sick? I never felt like this before. Is this what love feels like?
She told me she had to go but; I can't just let her leave yet. I had so many things to tell her but, so little time. I had to act fast, I hugged her from the behind and started to kiss her on the neck, this felt so good. She grabbed my hands and made me hold her tighter. I felt like I could hold her forever.
I asked her when I could see her again, and she told me Wednesday at the park, and then she kissed me. The kiss felt like it lasted for years. Then she left. She left me in the old house and I only get to see her in two days. I couldn't wait.
