THREE. supernova girl
LAYLA BEASLEY had everything handed to her on a silver platter. Everyone knew that and no one could stop it.
Layla had once again done something most couldn't and that was getting the school a personal concert from the international mega pop star, Ricky Weaver.
"You're into Ricky Weaver?" Jack asked.
"Who isn't?" Layla answered, "He's one of the biggest pop stars and I'm gonna met him. Maybe this'll get Jerry off of my back."
Jack had "multiple" reasons he didn't like Ricky Weaver and one of them was because people were so obsessed with him. He wasn't special in any way.
"I think he's got a doll'a head."
"Are you jealous, Brewer?" Layla asked.
"What? I'm not... I'm not jealous! I just don't get what the big deal is."
"Okay, Jack keep telling yourself that."
As of recent events, Layla started practicing at the dojo during the day. She was at the dojo with the rest of the group and was waiting for Ricky to show up.
Jack was left alone in the dojo when a Ricky had shown up.
"Ricky Weaver!" Kim shouted when her and Layla came from the back.
"Guys, it's cool. Wait in the limo." Ricky told his bodyguards, "I thought I'd stop by and say hey for the show."
Layla smiled, "Ricky, this is Jack and Kim."
Ricky brushed the two of and wrapped his arm around Layla's shoulder.
"I really loved the essay you wrote. If it's cool with you, I'd like to bring you up onstage tonight to dance with me."
"Really?" Layla smiled, "Yeah, that'd be great."
"Just make sure you wear something cute."
Layla nodded and Kim was quick to offer to take the girl to the "cute" store and dragged the girl out of the dojo, once again leaving Jack and Ricky alone.
And after defending Ricky, Jack was invited on Ricky's private jet to get burgers.
The boys hung out for a couple of hours before Jack decided to get ready to head back to the dojo.
"Hang on, Jack." Ricky called, "Can I ask you something about Layla?"
"She's pretty psyched that she was able to get you to come here tonight." Jack smiled.
"It's not really a contest." Ricky asked, "My record company makes me do these dumb school concerts, so, I just go through the pictures and pick out the hottest girl. You know what I'm saying?"
"That's why Layla won? Because she's the hottest girl?"
"Yeah. Why? You guys don't have a thing, do you?"
"No."
"Cool. Because after I dance with her, I'm gonna bring her backstage, make my move on her, then dump her."
Ricky was soon pulled away by his hair time and Jack will quickly left the cafeteria in order to find Layla to tell her Ricky's plan.
"Layla! There you are!"
She closed her locker, turning to face Jack.
She wore this pretty blue dress that Kim picked out for her. Now, even though Kim wanted to be Layla she wanted the girl to be happy so she can live vicariously through her in this moment.
"Wow! I've never seen you in a dress before."
Layla smiled, "Just tell me I'm pretty and get to the chase."
"You're pretty, Princess." Jack smiled, "There's something you should know about Ricky. The contest you won was a fake. He just looked at your picture and thought you were cute."
Layla shut her locker, "He thought I was cute?"
Jack rolled his eyes and continued, "After the concert he's gonna take you backstage, make a move on you, and then dump you. He does it in every city."
"Really? He told you that?"
"I'm really sorry, Layla."
Layla sighed and sat down on the steps on the school's hallways.
Jack hadn't seen the girl sad... like ever. He felt bad for her. This obviously wasn't Layla's first time being in a state of sadness, but it was the first time she had expressed in front of someone... in a long time that is.
Jack joined her side, thinking of what to say next, "Wanna get smoothies? I think you should at least get to show off your dress tonight."
Layla smiled, resting her head on Jack's shoulder for a moment.
"Thanks Jack."
Jack Brewer was jealous of Ricky Weaver. But Ricky Weaver wasn't the guy that Layla's head rested on now was it? No.
Jack Brewer wasn't going to fall for Layla Beasley... but for right now, he would slip for a moment and regain that momentum in the future. Right now, he'd enjoy this moment while he had a chance.
