ELEVEN. princess protection program
JACK, LAYLA, and Milton sat at a booth a Falafel Phil's. On this, no so very rare occasion, Jack had decided that he'd pay for the trios entire meal. But, this was different because he now had a job at the dojo.
"You guys want dessert?" Jack asked.
"Oh, I'm good Dessert at Phil's is disgusting." Milton answered, "It's just a scoop of hummus drizzled with sweet mold."
With that said, Jack smiled down at the bill and frowned, "That's a little bit more than I expected. Um, we didn't order five baba ghanoush platters."
"Oh. No, I did." Jerry smiled, holding his platters, "Yeah, I heard you were buying. Thanks, Jack."
Jerry soon left and Phil began shouted at people to leave. According to him, the Prince of Hachmachistan was coming to see him and he didn't want the Prince to see anyone who wasn't pleasing to the eyes.
"Why is he in Seaford?" Layla asked.
"Hachmachistan is gonna use the port of Seaford for all of its American trading. There's gonna be a royal reception tomorrow night at Seaford Tower." Milton explained, "And I'll be attending. You know why? Because I'm president of the Student United Nations Club."
"He's here! He's here!" Phil shouted.
The Prince and his bodyguards made his way towards the trio of friends and Phil.
"Welcome, welcome, You're highness. Welcome." Phil greeted, "If the redheaded bird boy offends you, he's out."
The Prince, Yuval, stepped passed Phil and stood near Layla and Milton, who stood close behind.
"When a man from my country sees a beautiful woman, there is a customary greeting." Yuval spoke, "May I?" He asked Layla.
She gave the boy a small smile as she nodded, but the instant regret soon came forth as Yuval grabbed the sides of her face and began screaming, practically wailing near her face.
After he completed his... welcoming gesture. Layla turned towards Jack who was pulling coins out of his pocket.
"Are you sure we can't help you with the check?" She asked.
"Relax, I got it."
Yuval stepped towards the table and grabbed the check, "No, I got it. Put your little pennies away. I would like the honor of treating this lovely lady and her friends."
Jack stood with a sigh, "Excuse me. Uvula, is it? Yeah, thanks. but I'm paying that. CN you believe this guy? I pay my own checks."
"Too late! It is paid." Yuval said, passing the check to one of his bodyguards, "Oh, I'm sorry, would anyone care for dessert."
And for the next few days it was like that for Layla.
The Prince would find her, ask her to lunch, and she'd say yes. Food was food, no matter where it came from.
But for now, Jack and Layla practiced in the dojo for a while and Phil soon came rushing inside.
"Big news, people! Big new! I have been asked by the Prince to present him with the symbolic key to the city of Seaford at his royal reception tomorrow night."
"Congrats, Phil." Layla smiled, standing to her feet, "Is that what the roses are for?"
"Oh! These are for you Layla. He also wanted you to have this."
Layla smiled as she took the flowers from Phil and tucked them under her arm as she grabbed the small black box from him.
She opened the box and her eyes widened in surprise. She pulled the diamond necklace out of the box and looked at it in awe.
"No guy has ever give me a necklace before." She smiled.
"Excuse me." Jack said, stepping forward, "Uh, I gave you one."
She smiled over at Jack.
"And I wear that macaroni necklace with pride every day." She reassured, resting her hand over her chest, "Just not today apparently."
"It was rigatoni. Learn your pasta, woman."
Layla raised her brows, "Look, no need to be jealous... once again. You'd go to if you were invited by a Princess."
"Please," Jack scoffed, "there's not a guy in the world that would wanna go to some fancy ball for a Prince."
Rudy stepped forward, saying he wanted to go but couldn't unless he was invited. And the only reason he was attending was to be Phil's assistant for the night.
And tomorrow night came with a breeze.
Layla had made her way into the dojo with her duffel bag and the dress she was going to wear tonight.
Something that she and Kim had picked out yesterday at some store in the mall.
As she began to change, Jack had come from Rudy's office with the vacuum and began cleaning.
Layla stepped out from the back wearing a stunning red dress, her hair styled in loose waves that cascaded down her shoulders. Jack turned around from his cleaning and his jaw dropped at the sight of her.
"Wow," He breathed out, "you look amazing."
Layla laughed, "I know I do, but you're the first person to tell me, so thank you."
"I'm sure you'll have a great time," Jack said,
Layla's smile faltered slightly at the mention of the Prince, and Jack couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. He quickly pushed it aside and cleared his throat.
"Well, have fun tonight," he said, trying to sound casual. "I'll see you when you get back."
Layla gave him one last smile before dipping our and leaving Jack alone once more.
But Jack would soon be by Layla's side once more as he was now tasked to take down Phil from taking the Prince and the many others at the party down.
Basically, Jack had taken down a spy over at Phil's who was tasked on taking Phil down, but with that guy now being arrested for breaking and entering, Jack now had to take on the task of saving the lives of everyone at the party.
"Presenting the key to the city. Hachmachistan's own Falafel Phil." Rudy announced into the microphone.
"Phil" made his way into the stage and held the key close by.
"Wait, stop!" Jack shouted.
He grabbed the attention of everyone, the people standing to his feet as he kicked the key out of "Phil's" hand.
Layla caught it with confusion and everyone watched as Jack and Phil fought on stage.
"Throw it!" Jack shouted.
"What? Why?" Layla questioned.
"The key! Throw it out the window, now!"
Layla, more confused than ever, threw the key out of the window and it soon exploded as soon as it landed out side.
Jack was soon able to flip "Phil" over, causing the fight to end right then and there.
"Jack, what are you doing to Phil?" Milton asked.
"He's not Phil."
Then man was so escorted out by security and Layla approached the two boys.
"That's definitely an entrance." She smiled.
"Look... I'll explain the whole thing later."
Layla and Jack soon heard her name being called. The duo turned and saw the Yuval making their way towards them.
"You and this boy with the amazing hair saved my life. I have never met a girl like you. You must be my princess. You will come to my county—"
"I just saw a man try and kill you. So, I think I pass." She sighed, "You're very sweet, but I can't handle that."
She quickly slipped the diamond necklace off and placed it in his hands.
Yuval gave her a small smile and turned towards Jack, "I own you my sincere appreciation. I hope you know you are a very wealthy man."
"Oh, I do." Jack smiled, "Oh, which reminds me. Here's 39.50 from the bill at Falafel Phil's. When I say I'm treating my friend to lunch, I treat my friends to lunch. I'm still short about four bucks, but I figured I saved your life. So we're even, right?"
Yuval laughed, "Not so much. Mail it to the palace."
Yuval soon left their side and Layla stepped forward towards Jack.
"That was fun for a while, but I think I'm ready to get back into my comfort zone." She smiled, "Starting now that I'm with you. We can go. I know these things aren't really your thing."
"Whoa! Whoa, whoa, wait a second here." Jack explained, "Uh, I just climbed 86 floors up the side of the building, the music's still playing and, um, I think I look kind of dashing. Do you wanna dance?"
Layla softly smiled and took Jack's hand.
The two of them took only a couple steps when the macaroni, better yet, the rigatoni necklace, fell from her pocket.
Jack glanced down and picked it up with a smile.
"I told you had it with me every day." She smiled.
Jack's small smile never left his face as he and Layla practically danced the night away.
