"Mara saw you?!"
Felicity cringed the volume of David's voice.
"Actually one of the Sisters saw us," she corrected.
"Yeah, she made a pun out of it," Rex deadpanned.
"How is that any better?" David replied, completely ignoring Rex's statement.
"Stop worrying, ok?" Felicity snapped. "We got the supplies, and we got out of there unscathed!"
"What do you call that then?" David pointed at a sizable scratch on his friend's leg.
"That was from a stick! Stop worrying!"
"No! I'm not going to stop worrying!" David cried, tears now forming in his eyes. Rex began to back away, sensing the tension. "You're my best friend and I can't let anything happen to you. If we lose you, we can't survive. We need your leadership to help us. I need you here to help me get through this. Please don't do this again."
Felicity felt tears in her eyes. She hated to worry him. She hated seeing him upset like this. She didn't want him to be like this. But still...
"David, I'm sorry." Her voice was soft and apologetic. "But I'm not staying here and sitting around while everyone else fights my battles." She sighed. "I need to be out there."
"Please, Felicity. Don't go back," David pleaded.
"David I'm sorry, I can't."
"But-"
"No! I need to be out there. If others are fighting for me, I'm helping them." Felicity stood up and stormed out of the camp, David chasing after of her, shouting her name.
She pushed open the camp gate and continued walking, locking it behind her.
She sprinted off into the forest, twigs and fallen leaves cracking under her heavy footsteps.
She finally came to a stop, sitting to rest on a fallen tree. She let out heaving breaths and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
She then became lost in her thoughts.
She liked having David around.
She was glad she had someone like him watching her back.
She was happy to have a friend like him.
But sometimes, it got too much.
She noticed it before, but ever since the apocalypse started, David had become clingier and more protective.
He seemed to think it was his job to keep her out of trouble.
She knew her sister wanted her dead.
She knew almost the whole town thought she started the apocalypse.
She knew how much these people needed her.
But she couldn't let these people suffer without being there to help.
SNAP!
Felicity at first didn't notice the sound of light footsteps approaching her spot.
SNAP!
Felicity now perked up at the sound. She swiftly drew her knife from her belt and stood up, expecting the worst. She scanned the trees for any sign of movement.
SNAP!
She spun around to face the noise.
A figure darted behind a tree.
"Who's there?" Felicity called out.
Silence.
"Come out! I know someone's back there!"
Silence again.
She began to walk slowly closer to the tree behind which the figure was hiding.
Felicity heard movement from behind the tree and prepared her weapon to strike if she must.
"Show yourself," she hissed.
"Please don't hurt me."
