Chapter 9 - Second Chance
Yoko's POV
We reach a emptier park soon enough, and walked through light rain to a clearing surrounded by trees. Mark, Andre, and Margrit are sitting on the box I'm holding as Seto casts a translucent, shadow barrier that will shield us from the outside. "No one can get in or leave unless I let them." he states, gesturing to the box.
"I'll just build a fire-" he says, wood floating to a ditch in the snow. "Then we'll let them out. We'll provide them with food and clothing from the house so they might trust us. Mark, Andre, Margrit, and you will be the tiny ambassadors, since you're their size." he continues.
"You mean you want me to-" I stammer.
"Yes, take off your mask." he says calmly, fireballs in both his hands. I squeak in slight agreement and put the now shaking box down, before pressing my watch and returning to my size. The fire is now blazing and I feel it's warmth on my icy skin. The other three regard me with new respect and help me onto the box. We watch the giant man walk around and throw some sticks into the fire, before coming toward the box. He squats to our level. "I'm going to get the clothes and food now, so wait here. And if anything happens-" his eyes meet Mark's and he taps his head once, before disappearing into thin air.
TIME SKIP
The tinies crowd us, wearing menacing glares. "Where is your giant now Neko?" snaps one of the dragonflies, opening his mouth to reveal quivering jaws. They get closer.
"Why are you doing this?! I never did anything to you." I cry, but they remain silent. Mark, Margrit, and Andre have been pinned against the clouded barrier, eyes scrunched closed. The female hybrids in a group suddenly scream, and everyone turns to look through the barrier. A dark shape was limping closer, and in a flash, it falls through the barrier, panting. Someone puts a muscled arm around my neck and drags me away, but the mystery man and I are grabbed by Seto. The man, who I see to be a middle aged woman is let out of his grip, and she runs off to another man, crying.
He pulls me towards him and I see his eyes, dark grey thunderstorm clouds. I feel like he's smaller than I remember from my last close encounter at this size, but I brush the thought out of my mind. Seto seems to be changing now , the slow pulse of his fingers quicken and his hand grows around me until it was the size I remember. He shoots me a smile and lets go, standing up unsteadily and brushing the bangs out of his eyes.
"Hey guys!" he exclaims weakly, looking at his friends, me, and the scared tinies in turn, eyes orangey yellow. "I brought presents!"

He reaches into his bag and brings out a back of individually wrapped parcels, full of clothes I presume. "They're one size fits all." he babbles, as he puts the packages in front of the fire to warm. He stands back up and surveys as each person slowly creeps towards the clothes, watching their cloaked saviour and flinching whenever he moved. The last people to step forward were the gang that had almost beat me up twice. All eyes were on the mage, as realization dawned in his face. He didn't move, but he was glaring through murderous red eyes, with a locked jaw and clenched fists. The gang members must have been burning under his gaze but they took no notice, grabbing their parcels and scurrying backward.
As everyone is in the process of putting on their new clothes, Seto bends once more, and a plethora of food appears. Everyone stops what they're doing and rushes to the food, including me. I'm one of the first people to get there and I start stuffing my face, but soon everyone, including Mark and Andre, are eating themselves pink.
Seto's POV
I watch them eat, and also notice two things.
1. How hungry I am.
2. That Margrit is still sitting against the barrier.
I sidestep around the mass of tiny bodies and sit next to the little butterfly. I sense her cold so I pick her up softly and cradle her against my chest, earning me a chirp of surprise.
"Thank you." she whispers and I rub her head.
"It's fine. Why aren't you eating?"
"I'm not hungry." she sighs.
"Really? You seem thin as a twig, you should eat." I reply, studying her. My stomach growls at that moment. "I should eat." I declare, and Margrit looks slightly fearful.
"Don't worry Margrit, you know I don't eat humans. I'm not a cannibal." I try to smile kindly, but she doesn't return my friendly gesture, instead she moves as far back as she can. I try not to look disappointed and place her back in the snow, standing and brushing my cloak down. The humans have crowded around Mark as he speaks to them, listening intently.
"And then, you know how he bought every one of you?"
They all nod in unison.
"Well, it turns out he was going to take you to a better place to live with a nice giant and be completely safe." he pats the Neko on the head and he hides his face as most of the humans watch him in wonder. I see the gang members watching the storytime, with looks of forgiveness and guilt, as Yoko's true motives are revealed. "And Seto, this giant here, has saved us so many times it isn't funny." I'm taken aback by this sentiment, and my eyes flush as pink as my cheeks. "Aw, thanks Mark. I bend over to pick him up, but my hand falters. "No.." I moan, stumbling back. I feel my mind being pressured by a force that I can't understand. "Guys, stay BACK." my voice rising to a crescendo. Mark and Andre's faces are painted with grim understanding, but everyone else is confused including Yoko. My darkening eyes turn purple as I fall back through the barrier.
I'm not coming back until THIS is over. I can't put my friends in danger.
My hair falls into my eyes and a smile rips across my face. "Time for fun."
