Chapter 4 - Mistrust

Seto's POV
"We are going to find Jewel." I exclaim to two tiny faces at breakfast. My voice was not quiet, but Mark and André didn't seem to notice, as they were too busy doing spot on impressions of fish. "Dude..... seriously?" Mark queried, standing up and walking across to me.
"Yep, I thought it would be a good way to cheer you up." I reply
"Yeah, cheer us up for a couple of months." mumbles André, eyes fixed on his food. "You know how hard it will be to find a specific Neko in this world. She's one in a couple million."
I stare at him with one eyebrow raised. "You think I didn't know that. I already have a plan."
"Really? Or are we just going on a goose chase." he retorts.
"Yes André, Seto will have a plan, and when did you become the doubter?" answers Mark, shooting him a cold stare.
André looks up into my eyes "Ever since you tried to eat me."

Mark's POV
As soon as the words leave his mouth, Seto flinches like he's been stung. His once wide yellow eyes fade to blood red slits and he locks them on André. I march over to him and throw a punch to his jaw. "Dude, what was that?!" I yell, lifting him up as much as I can. "Seto saved your life, I thought you got that." I seethe, and André holds my burning gaze. "He never explained why." I let go of his green shirt, but he remains suspended in the air. I look up and see two fingers pinching the fabric. "Mark! Mark, get me down! Please!" André pleads, shaking like a leaf, as the digits lift him higher and higher into the air.

I watch helplessly as Seto drops André, swiftly catches him in a fist, then disappears with a swish of his cloak. I sit back on the table, unfazed, hoping that Seto won't hurt my best friend.

André's POV
Damn it. I've done it now, me and my big mouth. Now Seto is going to do who knows what with me, and I won't be able to stop him. When I open my eyes I am blinded by sunlight, and deafened by the sound of all the noise. "W-where am I?" I ask no one in particular, looking around at the bustling crowd and the hybrids flying overhead.

Wait, if there are hybrids here, doesn't that mean I'm..... outside.

I realise the large hand wrapped around me, and start to squirm. I wrench my arms out of the hand's grip, and turn around. The hand belongs to Seto, and he is staring straight ahead. Seemingly fine that he is holding a human in his hand in a crowd of human-eating hybrids. I kick my legs and wriggle my torso, then, I crouch down and close my eyes.

"Seto please let me go. I don't want to die." I whimper, tears rolling down my cheeks.
"André, I won't let you go until I explain something to you." he replies coolly.
"But-"
"You better not interrupt otherwise we will be standing here longer."
"Okay."
"Now, I see that your tiny brain has managed to think that I was trying to eat you."
"Yeah, you put me in your mouth and-"
"Yes, I did. But I didn't eat you, I teleported you upstairs. I saved your life."
"But, your eye-"
"It was simple magic. I cast a spell that allowed me to change the colour of my eyes."
He raises me up close to his red eyes and continues.
"And if you have a problem with being alive, I'll call up those men and tell them to finish the job."
I shake my head, he smirks, and his eyes lighten.
"Now, I want you to rub your eyes." he says, opening his fist so I am sitting on his palm.
I awkwardly rub my eyes, and when I open them, I am on the table next to a wide eyed
Mark.

"André!" he says with relief, and pulls me into a tight hug. "What happened?"
"Seto took me outside, I think."
"What do you mean?"
"He was holding me out in a crowd of hybrids, but when he was finished he told me to rub my eyes, then I was here."
"I guess it was magic, because you just appeared here, like apparation."
"What's an app-"
"Never mind." He says, standing up and looking at the hall past the door. The light streaming in through the windows is warm and inviting, and I lie on the table and bask in it.

"Mark, what do you think was up with Seto and those hybrids? Were they friends or what?"
"Hmm? Oh, them. Maybe they were enemies when everyone was human." he replies, still shading his eyes and staring at nothing.

Suddenly, I feel a consciousness slip into my mind, and I build a sort of mental wall. I don't want any giants in my head. The thing leaves, I hear a soft sigh, then I am lying on the floor next to Mark, in Jewel's old room. I sit up and see two suitcases that are slightly bigger than me and Mark. When I look inside, I see all of my things, plus food and water. "What are these for?"
"What do you think?"
"Oh, so we really are going to find Jewel."
"Yes." says Seto, who was sitting next to his open bag. "We are going to find her because we can't just sit around and do nothing, we need to get out of here."
"But what about the hybrids? They'll eat us as soon as they see us." asks Mark quietly.
"They won't see you. And don't ask." he snaps, obviously in a bad mood. He puts a few more things in his bag, before shrinking the suitcases down.
"Wait. You can shrink things?" I ask, confusion lining my face.
"Yeah."
"Can you grow things?"
"Yeah, I could, but only with my spellbook. And after Mark over there used it, it burnt into ash."
He shot Mark a hard look, and I saw him flinch.
"So here are your things, they are still your size and everything." he drones, no life in his words.
"Okay, so lets go!" cries Mark happily.
"Wait a minute." says Seto, fixing us with a burning stare. His eyes turn purple and he mutters a few words. My legs feel energised, like I could run 1km without breaking a sweat, and I could jump 2 metres with room to spare.
"I gave you some jump and speed boost charms. You should try them out." he picks up his bag and stands, pulling his cat hoodie over his head. He lays his hand palm up in front of his chest.
"Jump." he says simply.
Mark and I pick up our bags, bend out knees and push up. We accelerate up fast, and I feel my stomach dropping. I look down and see that we're high above Seto, and also that we'll miss our landing.
"Mark, MARK! We're gonna miss the landing." I call, but Mark has already noticed.
As we fall back down, we see Seto tense, before he jumps up and catches us. We fall to the bottom of the clam that Seto made, tumbling over each other, before the light shines on us as his hands straighten. We walk around like drunks for a little bit, before we realise that we never felt Seto hit the ground. Something like that would've jarred us.

"What the heck. Are we flying?" Mark asks with a look of disbelief.
"Yep. This is one of my abilities, isn't it awesome?" replies Seto, eyes bright yellow and sparkly for the first time in a while. I look at Seto and see how happy he is. "It's awesome bro."
"Welp. Time for your invisibility potions." he says and two small bottles come floating over.
I chug it down and so does Mark, but I can still see myself and I can see Mark.
"Seto! It doesn't work." I moan, but Seto only smiles.
"You are invisible, but I made it so that I can see you and Mark can, but nobody else." explains Seto, and I nod. He slowly flies to the window, and as he does, I start to feel sleepy. I can barely keep my eyes open as Seto slips us into his jacket pocket. My eyelids scrape down my face and I yawn, snuggling into Mark before I finally fall asleep.
