Chapter 7: "Her Wrists"
Jessica was in beyond pain. But she was tired of screaming. Her throat was throbbing in pain. It felt raw and hoarse and even sliced. She couldn't bear any of this any longer. Jessica closed her mouth and eyes. Salty tears began to flow down her pale face. After a couple of minutes, her silent crying became into sobbing. Her wrists began to bleed profusely. Jessica stopped crying when she felt the cold liquid start running down her arms. Jessica realized something. Everytime she started crying her heart out, her wrists began to bleed. And when her wrists began to bleed it felt as if someone poured lava on the wounds. And the lava started traveling through her veins. Jessica didn't want to continue feeling this pain. She wiped her tears away and smeared a bit of blood on her face while doing it. But after taking deep breaths and everything, tears still continued to flow down. Her wrists continued bleeding. Lava continued travelling through her veins. The unbearable pain was there and didn't leave her alone. Jessica bit her lip until she started tasting the iron liquid seeping from her lip. She continued to sob. Her sobs soon became into sniffles. Her breathing was still shaky and going in and out in an irregular breaths. She started taking deep breaths in attempt to calm down. Jessica started wiping at her face again. This time her wrists stopped bleeding.
Jessica didn't understand how all of this happened. She didn't even know what time it was...Was it past 8 by now? Or was it already morning? How long has she been gone? Are Vitya and Pedro ok? How come only Pedro scratched under the carpet? Vitya has never done that before...Did anyone even care that she was gone..? Did anyone even realize that she was gone...?
After the murder of her parents, Jessica fell into a deep state of depression. When she moved into her apartment, she decided to isolate herself since she struggled with anxiety too. She couldn't talk to people, she was still having struggles to talk. Jessica was soon known in her apartment complex that she was the young lady that doesn't talk. She was always getting unwanted stares. Anyone who has seen even just a snippet of the inside of her apartment would know that she really loved the colors black and blue. Well, that's what they'll think...In reality those colors were all around her apartment because those colors represented how she always felt. Black for empty and blue for...well...depressed.
Jessica was tired. She was tired of everything. She always seemed to feel cold and emotionless. Her 2 only companions are the only ones who made her feel something. Yeah, still pretty lonely but at least she had them...Jessica glanced at her wrists. They had stopped bleeding. Jessica decided to get up from the floor. She felt sleepy and tired but she had to get back...up..? Jessica once more studied her surroundings. All she could see was the desk. Beyond that, was just complete darkness...where exactly was she? The more Jessica thought about it...was this the place called "Hell"? Jessica wasn't religious or anything like that so she never really believed in any of that. But all the characteristics...kind of fell into place..?
Jessica got up from the floor completely and started walking towards the desk. The book she had opened earlier was on the edge of the desk. Her hands started sweating and she gulped. Should she open it again..? Jessica's hands were now trembling. Her fingers inched closer and closer to the book. The tips of her fingers itching to touch the spine of the book again. Jessica was pretty sure that where where she was right now, was most definitely, Hell.
Jessica's fingers had finally reached the cover of the book. The color of the cover was a dark brownish red. The material was leather. Jessica grabbed the book and held it in both of her hands. Painstakingly slowly, she opened the book once more. She opened it to the first page. What greeted her was oldish looking paper with writing in red ink. In red letters there was written "You've not only opened a book in Hell, but unleashed a demon as well". Jessica inhaled sharply and her face went pale. She knew it. She fell right into Hell. But, a demon..? Jessica slowly looked up from the book and looked around...There was nobody or anything in sight at all...
Were "demons" even real? Yeah sure she had psychological demons. But not actual, well, demons. Demons as in those who steal souls..? Jessica didn't believe in anything paranormal or anything like that. What was the point? In her defense she was a logical and realistic person. But this whole experience is confusing her mind. Jessica was sweating buckets by now. She was actually getting terrified. She was lost. Alone. Confused. And defenseless. She didn't know where she was. There was no one in sight. And she doubted that punches and kicks would harm a demon.
Jessica flipped the page. Once again she saw writing in red ink. Cliche. That's what Jessica thought. Jessica was trying to keep her foot on the ground and not get more terrified than she already was. So she made snarky comments in her mind to calm herself. But what she read next made her snarky comments come to a halt. "Since you have come across this book. You are to take this book as a guidebook." Jessica choked on her saliva. The book slipped from her hands and fell. While Jessica was calming herself, sht noticed that the book was still on the same page. But weirdly enough, the book didn't catch on fire. The floor was a million degrees and yet, it was fine.
Jessica composed herself and picked up the book. Jessica kept reading. You would think that her face couldn't go any paler, but it did. The writing said, "Now don't think you can run away. This book will find you in any way." Jessica's face had reached the color of a dead human. All color was drained from her face. Her eyes as wide as saucers. Her lips if you looked closely, were chapped and faded. If you thought that she couldn't get any more terrified, you're completely wrong. In big, bold, and deep red ink at the bottom of the page was written, "You're marked and doomed."
