Chapter 4: "Pedro and The Door"
August 25th, 6:41 P.M.
Jessica was up from the couch and stared at the clock hanging from the wall. The clock's hands ticked every so often and since it was silent at the moment, that's all she could hear, the ticking of her clock. Jessica didn't like silence whatsoever, in fact, she hated silence and avoided it at all costs. Jessica shuffled to her kitchen to make something to eat, since she was very hungry at the moment. Vitya and Pedro jumped off the couch and started following Jessica to the kitchen. Jessica opened her fridge and took out lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and ranch. She placed all her ingredients on her kitchen counter while she walked to the to the drawer and took out a slim kitchen knife. She started cutting her lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots. She took out a blue bowl from under her sink and a black spoon from another drawer. She mixed all her cut up ingredients in the bowl and poured ranch all over it. Jessica decided to pick up her blue bowl and get a silver fork from a drawer and walk back to her living room. She sat down on her couch, that was also blue just like almost everything in her apartment. She grabbed the T.V. remote that was sitting on her black coffee table, once she pressed the "ON" button, the T.V. sprang to life. Jessica started eating her salad straight from the bowl. The only thing playing on the T.V. were the news, and since she was too lazy to change the channel, she left it there. She wasn't paying too much attention since the only thing that was being discussed were robberies and shootings, and that happened all the time in Chicago so it wasn't anything new to her and other Chicagoans.

Jessica was bored out of her skull, done with her salad, and tired. She made herself some coffee and washed her dishes, while throwing a squeaky toy once in awhile for the dogs to catch. Jessica was drinking her coffee when she realized that Pedro was eating Vitya's food. She put down her coffee cup and took out an extra food bowl from under her kitchen sink and a sharpie from her purse, that was hanging on one of her chairs. She wrote "Pedro" on the bowl with sharpie and filled it with dog food and placed it next to Vitya's food bowl. Pedro sniffed the bowl full with food and decided to continue eating from his new bowl. Vitya walked over to his bowl and started eating. Since the water bowl was big enough for both of the dogs, Jessica decided that she would just leave it there for both of the dogs to share. Jessica went to her room and placed some more blankets around the only dog bed she had available. Since the dog bed was big enough for the dogs and had more space made from the blankets around it, she decided to let the dogs share that bed too. In the end of the day she was pretty sure that Vitya and Pedro will jump on her bed and cuddle with her some time during the night. Jessica walked out of her bedroom and walked to the living room and sat down on her couch. She was getting comfortable when all of a sudden Pedro and Vitya started barking at the front door, someone was knocking on her door...Jessica didn't have any friends so it couldn't be anyone visiting her...Jessica was debating on whether she should open the door or not. After a couple of seconds passed by, the knocking stopped. Jessica didn't pay too much attention to the situation so she walked back to her room and brought back her sketch book and pencil.

Jessica was sketching Pedro and Vitya on her paper for quite a while now. She finished the sketch of Pedro after a couple of a touch-ups. While she was working on the sketch of Vitya, Pedro walked away and started sniffing the black carpet under the black coffee table. Jessica didn't think much of it so she continued sketching. Pedro stopped sniffing and started scratching the black carpet. After a couple of seconds Pedro started scratching viciously the carpet. Now Jessica was confused and worried, Vitya never scratched the carpet like that so why was Pedro scratching at it in such a vicious method? Jessica stopped sketching and Vitya started napping on the couch. Jessica got up from the couch and scooped up Pedro who kept scratching with such a fast motion on her arms that she let go of him on the couch. She kneeled on the floor, near her black carpet. She slowly lifted up the black carpet to just reveal the wooden floor. Jessica sighed and started getting up when Pedro jumped off the couch and started scratching the wooden floor. Jessica was about to scoop Pedro up again when she realized that where he was scratching was peeling off? Her first thought was that maybe it was the wax his nails were peeling off but that wasn't quite it. After Pedro peeled off a big portion of the "wooden floor" it revealed a portion of black wood. It was as if the "floor" had a second layer. Jessica was getting a bit curious herself, so she started helping Pedro peel the "wooden floor" layer. After peeling the layer she realized that it was only under her coffee table that there was that mysterious layer. When she peeled it and placed the peelings on the coffee table, she looked back at the black wood. There was a mini latch on the far right on the black wood. The closer she inspected the latch and the wood, she realized that it looked like a mini wooden door. The "mini wooden door" was only like the size of a 20 by 20 inch tile. Jessica's heart pace started the gain speed. Just by looking at the mysterious and unknown "door" made shivers go down Jessica's spine. Jessica's shaking hand reached to the mini latch and tightened its hold on it. Painstakingly slowly she lifted the mini door...after a couple of deep breaths she opened the door completely...Jessica's face went pale as a vampire and her crystal blue eyes became frozen and icy on the spot...her mouth went dry while her jaw was completely hanging and open as a screaming banshee...
