PROLOGUE

Phoebe found a nice and cozy cafe nearby the apartment she lived at and has started going to it ever since she found it when she and her parents took a tour around the town. Phoebe didn't always live in Philadelphia. She grew up in New York City where her parents still live there. She moved to Philadelphia only because she had got accepted to her dream college, Pennbrook.

One day when Phoebe went to that cafe, it course had to be the day she forgot her wallet. She was in a rush that day since she had a job interview. It seemed like everything was going wrong for her that day. Her alarm didn't go off to what she set it to, she had burnt the toast she made, she was stuck in traffic on the way to the coffee shop, and she had to wait in a long line.

Then something amazing happened that brightened up Phoebe's day. The most handsome guy Phoebe has ever saw offered to buy her coffee. Phoebe couldn't get his name and only had time to thank him since she was running late to her job interview. Phoebe only hoped that she would see the kind stranger again and preferably soon.

Phoebe did great with that interview and now she has a new job which is working at a music store that sells records. She was currently sitting on the couch in the living room of her shared apartment, painting her fingernails a lavender color. Her roommate, Juliana (who preferred to go by Julie), sat at the opposite side of the couch and was painting her fingernails a red color. They were comfortable with being silent with each other, the only noise in the apartment was the music playing from the record on the record player that's set up by the tv stand.

"Hey," Julie speaks up. As she paints her fingernails a light pink color, she glances at the brunette-haired girl sitting at the other end of the couch. "Did you know that we got new neighbors?"

Phoebe glances at her with curiosity. "Really? Do you know who?"

"Three cute boys." Julie smiles. "I didn't meet them yet, but I saw them move in the other day." She points at Phoebe with the nail polish brush she held and a stern expression forms on her face. "I call dibs on the tall one."

Phoebe chuckles, shaking her head. "You can't call dibs on someone you didn't meet. And you shouldn't call dibs no matter what. That's not right."

Julie rolls her eyes, shaking her head. "Fine, whatever." She goes back to painting her nails, grumbling, "I'm still gonna try to date him though. He's super cute."

Phoebe laughs, shaking her head. "Okay, sure." She smiled slightly, turning her attention back to painting her nails. She honestly hoped that one of the boys moving next door consisted of the boy she met at the Skylight Cafe.

The next day Phoebe decided she and Julie should introduce themselves to their next door neighbors. So that's why they were currently standing in front of the door to their next door neighbor's apartment. Phoebe and Julie had a whisper argument about who should be the one to knock on the door and talk first since they both were shy when meeting new people although Julie was the more outgoing one of the duo.

"Okay, okay." Phoebe waves her arms around in a 'no' gesture twice each time she said 'okay'. "Let's just settle this with rock paper scissors." She was getting annoyed with this argument that wasn't going anywhere.

"You're on." Julie smirked and the two girls played rock paper scissors. That game resulted into Phoebe losing. Julie grinned victoriously and stepped to the side, letting a pouting Phoebe step up to the door to knock.

After Phoebe knocks on the door, the two girls only had to wait a few seconds before the door opened, revealing the brown-haired boy with brown eyes Phoebe saw at the cafe the other day. She stood there with a shocked expression, not being able to form any words. The boy in front of her looked to be just as shocked as she was.

"I apologize for my roommate," An unfamiliar voice speaks and a light brown-haired boy, taller than the one in front of Phoebe, walks over to stand by him. He leans his elbow on the other boy's shoulder, smiling at the two girls as he did the crazy gesture with his hand. "He's kinda crazy."

Julie laughs, glancing at her best friend with amusement upon seeing the brunette still looking at the boy in front of her with a shocked expression. "Yeah, I'm familiar with having a crazy roommate." She found it ironic how she was talking about Phoebe at that moment when in reality she was the crazy one and although Phoebe did have her moments at time Phoebe was the calm and responsible one of the duo.

"Hey, weren't you the guy who paid for my coffee at the Skylight Cafe?" Phoebe blurted out, pointing at the boy in front of her.

The Skylight Cafe is two blocks away from the apartment building. It was a nice, cozy, place that had a skylight (which was why it was named the Skylight Cafe. It was where anyone went to enjoy different kinds of drinks such as coffee and tea and different kinds of food but in the food department it mostly sold pastries. The cafe was pretty popular, everyone went there, but most of the time it was only teens and young adults.

"Yeah." The boy smiles brightly at her, looking relieved that she remembered him. "I'm Jack." He pushes his roommate's arm off his shoulder, rolling his arms. "And I'm not crazy."

"We're all a little crazy." Julie chuckled and shrugged.

The tall one points at her with a grin on his face. "I like you." Julie grinned back at him and crossed her arms, proud of herself for getting her cute neighbor to like her.

"Thank you for doing that." Phoebe tells Jack. She was so happy she got his name and she thought it fit him well too. She smiles softly at the brunette-haired boy. "I really appreciated it. It helped me out a lot."

Jack shrugs, acting as if it wasn't a big deal. He smiles at her. "No problem. I wanted to make your day better after you had to wait for a long time in the line. Waiting in that long line annoyed me and you looked like you were in a rush so I wanted to help you out." Phoebe smiled softly at him, feeling her face heat up. The fact that he wanted to make her day better even though he didn't know her at the time warmed her heart.

Julie rolls her eyes upon seeing the two young adults now looking at each other with literal heart eyes. She looks at the tall boy with a smile, trying to not get lost in his beautiful hazel eyes. Okay, she did say that she would try to date the tall one, but it's a lot harder said than done. And now that she's right in front of the cute boy, some of her flirtatious confidence was replaced with nerves. "I'm Julie." She introduced herself. She reached her hand out for the boys to shake and the tall one is the only one who does while the other boy continued to stare at Phoebe with wide eyes.

The tall one gets his arm off the other boy, smiling at Julie and shakes her hand. "Beautiful name, Julie. I'm Eric. Jack and I have one more roommate named Shawn, but he's out with friends."

Julie smiles at the two boys, happy to finally know their names. And yes, she did ignore her heart skipping a beat when Eric complimented her. "It's nice to finally meet our new next door neighbors. Well, at least two of our next door neighbors." She glanced at Phoebe when the brunette still didn't introduce herself. She noticed that she and Jack were staring at each other with literal heart eyes, causing her to smile teasingly at her best friend. She elbowed Phoebe roughly in the side to snap the girl out of it. It worked because Phoebe shook her head and blinked rapidly for a few seconds. She smiled sheepishly at Julie and at the two boys in front of her and Julie, her face turning pink out of embarrassment.

"Sorry. I'm, uh, I'm Phoebe." Phoebe finally spoke for the first time since the boy with hazel eyes opened the door, feeling her heartbeat increase with each second because of her nerves. She hated how nervous she was with meeting new people. And the fact that these boys were cute did not help calm her nerves. Julie was better at her with meeting new people and it showed with Julie's calm demeanor she had this whole time.

"It's nice to meet you Phoebe." Jack smiles at her and she smiles back at him. He was of course happy and beyond relieved to know the name of the girl he couldn't stop thinking about since the day he saw her. Which happened to be one week ago. He glances at Julie with a smile. "And it's nice to meet you too, Julie."

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you boys too." Julie glances at the two boys with a smile. "Hey, if you guys are new to the town we could give you a tour."

The two boys share a look, having a silent conversation with each other, and then they both look at the two girls with smiles. "We'd love that." Eric said.

"Great." Phoebe smiles. "Would you guys be free to do that now?"

The two boys nod in response at the same time. "Of course." Jack replied.

After the two boys made sure they had their keys to their apartment they locked the door and walked out. The four young adults then started a conversation with each other, making their way over to the elevator. None of them knew that this was the start of a beautiful friendship between them.

A/N yes i made up the cafe name, it took me for what felt like forever to make that up but im proud of it :) i literally had the hardest time figuring out how to start this book out but i kind of like how it turned out ! & i just now realized it but i kind of made phoebe & julie be like the female versions of jack & eric lol its not as obvious as the actual female versions of jack & eric in the show that the boys date (the ones who seen that episode know what im talking about) but its kinda obvious
