CHAPTER FIVE, last tango in philly

The core four, including Phoebe, Jack, Eric, and Julie, walked to their favorite pizza place they found nearby the apartment building they lived in. They've been going there almost everyday and often did their homework there. Phoebe began to talk about how she wanted to go to this new dance club that had just opened up. Jack, however, was clearly not really listening as he worked on his homework.

"Jack, are you even paying attention?" Phoebe asked, annoyed.

"Huh? Yeah, of course." Jack replied, not really looking up.

Phoebe rolls her eyes. "Never mind. It's not important."

But it was important to her, and the fact that Jack wasn't listening made her feel like he didn't care about her or her interests. "I'm gonna go get a refill." Phoebe mumbled, standing up and took her empty cup with her to where the soda station was at.

"You idiot." Julie scolded, hitting Jack's shoulder.

"Ow!" Jack winces, rubbing his shoulder and glancing at her with confusion. "What? Why am I an idiot?"

"She clearly wanted to go dancing, but you weren't even listening." Eric pointed out.

"But she said it's not important." Jack furrowed his eyebrows, confused about why this was a big deal.

Eric rolls his eyebrows. "Wow, you really are an idiot."

The rest of the night, things haven't been good for Phoebe and Jack. They've been arguing non stop about literally anything and everything. Well, at first Phoebe started giving him the silent treatment but then they started arguing.

"Hey, Pheebs." Julie greets as she walks into the apartment from leaving her bedroom. She raises her eyebrows at seeing her best friend laid on the couch facedown. "You alright?"

"Boys are idiots." Phoebe replied, but her words sounded muffled since she laid on the couch.

"Well, that's obvious." Julie nods with a chuckle. "I talked with 'Panga and Ang earlier today and they basically said Cory and Shawn have been idiots as well, but that's normal." She said and Phoebe chuckles lightly as she nods. "Can't believe it that today Eric isn't the one who's an idiot and I'm sayin' that with love." She quickly adds, not wanting it to come off mean. She sighs when her best friend didn't make a move to get up off the couch. "Okay, that's it. Get up." Julie was getting tired of the arguing and Phoebe moping around.

Phoebe lifts her head up, staring at her with confusion. "What?"

"Get up." Julie orders. She grins. "We're gonna go out in town and have fun. You've been moping around all day and it's so annoying."

"I rather just stay here and mope." Phoebe muttered and laid her head back down.

Julie rolls her eyes and walks over to her, pulling her up off the couch. "I hate it you're freakishly strong." Phoebe grumbled as Julie pulled her to stand up.

"Come, on. Let's go have fun!" Julie encouraged.

"Okay, okay." Phoebe caves in. She sighs, looking apologetic. "I'm sorry I'm acting like a downer. I've been arguing with Jack all day, and it's been weighing on my mind."

Julie smiles reassuringly at her. "It's okay. I know how important your friendship with Jack is to you, Phoebe. But maybe tonight, we can take a break from all the worries and just have some fun. Sometimes, a change of scenery can help clear your mind. Topanga and Angela invited us to go to that dance club you were talking about tonight. I told them we would go so now we have to go." Julie explains with a smile. "So go get dressed."

"Fine." Phoebe murmured, sighing heavily as she trudged to her room to change.

"Look at this place, Phoebe!" Julie smiles widely, glancing at the club in awe once she and Phoebe arrived. "It's incredible! Let's hit the dance floor and show off our moves!"

"Yeah, sure, Julie." Phoebe replies with less enthusiasm as Julie spoke. "Let's give it a try."

As they start dancing, Phoebe can't help but glance around, hoping to see Jack and make things right.

"Having any fun yet?" Julie asked with a smile. Loud music filled the club as people danced with each other and bright lights were flashing.

"Yes." Phoebe nodded, speaking unconvincingly.

"Are you lying?" Julie raised her eyebrows. She didn't believe Phoebe at all.

"Yes." Phoebe frowns. "I'm sorry. I just can't stop thinking about how things have been between me and Jack. It's never been this way between us before and I hate it. I don't know how to make things better between us."

Julie's eyes soften and nods. "Phoebe, I understand how much this means to you. Sometimes, friendships go through rough patches, but true friends find a way back to each other. Just give it time. I'm sure things will get better." She reassured her with a soft smile.

"I know." Phoebe sighs. She then smiles a bit. "You're right, Julie. I shouldn't let one argument ruin our friendship. I'll make amends with him as soon as I can."

"Hey, girls." Topanga greeted with a smile as she moved over to where Julie and Phoebe were dancing.

"Hi, 'Panga." Phoebe smiles at her. "How are you holding up?"

"Not so great." Topanga frowns. "I really miss Cory."

"I just called the apartment again." Angela tells Topanga as she walks over to the group. She looks worried. "They're not there." Phoebe glanced at her sympathetically, figuring she meant Shawn and Cory.

Amy dances around the corner with a guy following her. She grins. "Oh, Topanga. This is great. Thank you."

"Amy?" Phoebe said with surprise, sharing a surprised look with Julie. They didn't expect Amy to be at a club like this.

"Hi, girls." Amy greeted, smiling at Phoebe and Julie.

"Didn't expect to see you here." Phoebe admits with a smile. "But good for you!"

"Mr. Matthews is okay with this?" Topanga raised her eyebrows with surprise.

"Oh, he is so stuck in front of that satellite TV, he doesn't even know I'm here." Amy replied.

"Well, that's sad." Julie retorted.

"Oh, he knows you are here. Of this I'm sure." Nunzio, Topanga's and Angela's coworker at the restaurant they work at, said with a smile as he danced near the group.

"Katherine?" Amy said wtih surprise, smiling when she noticed Katherine, who had been seeing Mr. Feeny lately. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I love dancing." Katherine smiles widely. "I wish there was a way to get your neighbor here."

"Just like Jack being here, I don't think that's ever gonna happen." Phoebe spoke sympathetically.

"Come on, Topanga," Angela speaks up, frowning at Topanga. "I miss Shawn, too. But let's just try to have fun."

"I can't have fun." Topanga argues. "I really want to be with Cory. Why do men have to be so stubborn?"

Julie hums in response. "That's a very great question."

"I really wish I knew the answer to it." Phoebe grumbled.

As if on cue, Eric walks onto stage. "Ladies," Eric suddenly calls out, speaking into a mic on stage. The music stops, everyone stops dancing and grows quiet. They all turn to face him. "Hello." He puts his hands on his hips. "Since the beginning of time, men," He points at himself. "Have been big idiots."

"Well, that's obvious." Julie chuckled and Phoebe nodded in agreement with an amused smile.

Eric smiles. "This will make up for it." He then locked eyes with Julie, sending a wink to her

Phoebe shared a confused but curious look with Julie before they both looked back at Eric. He moved the mic and its stand out of the way. He then stood off to the side, snapping his fingers and doing a pose as disco lights turned on. The song 'Hot Stuff' played on the radio and then Alan, Cory, Shawn, Feeny, and Jack walked through the curtain to get on stage.

Phoebe's eyes widen with surprised. Never in her life did she think she would see Jack dance, but here he was dancing on stage. She never thought she would see the others dance either. All of this was very surprising. She shared an amused smile with Julie, the two of them clapping along with everyone else as the boys and men started doing a choreographed dance.

After the dance, everyone clapped and cheered for them. "Jack," Phoebe walks over to Jack, who stood off to the side looking nervous. She smiles softly at him, looking at him with surprise. "I thought you couldn't dance."

"I can't." Jack chuckles. "Trust me. You have no idea how many tries it took me to get that dance down."

"I'm very impressed." Phoebe admits and Jack beams at her. "I'm sorry about how things have been between us lately." Phoebe apologizes with a frown. "I don't wanna keep fighting with you."

"Me neither." Jack agrees. A guilty look forms on his face. "I'm sorry for not listening to you before. But I did all this to prove to you I do care about you."

"You're very sweet." Phoebe smiles softly, her heart fluttering. "Thank you, Jackie." She looks at him hopefully. "Can we go back to being friends?"

"Best friends." Jack corrected her, his lips curling upwards into a smile.

Phoebe nods and grins. "Best friends."

"Yes, I would love to be best friends with you again. I honestly hated arguing with you." Jack confessed, looking relieved they were best friends again.

"Me too." Phoebe nods in agreement. She smiles. "I really appreciate you really went out of your way to make it up to me." Jack smiles shyly and shrugs, a light shade of blush forming on his face. "Listen, I know you don't really know how to dance...But would you want me to teach you?" She asked hopefully.

"I don't know..." Jack nervously said, his voice trialing off as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Come on," Phoebe encourages, outstretching her hand to him. She smiles softly at him. "It'll be fun."

"Okay." Jack caved in, smiling nervously, taking ahold of her hand. They both ignored the spark they felt as they walked onto the dance floor.

Meanwhile, Julie and Eric were dancing nearby. "Eric, that was one of the best ideas you've ever had." Julie spoke with a bright smile.

"That's one of the nicest things you ever said to me." Eric grins, his eyes lighting up. "So, you liked it?"

"Loved it. I didn't know you could dance." Julie confessed.

"There's a lot you don't know about me." Eric smirks. "Like, uh...Have you heard of 'The Lord of The Dance'?" Julie shakes her head in response, raising her eyebrows at him curiously. "No?" He grins. "It's me." He then did an Irish jig.

Julie laughs, smiling at him with amusement. "I don't know what 'The Lord of The Dance' is, but I'm pretty sure that ain't it. Still very impressive though."

"Well, then I think you'll like this better." Eric smirked, grabbing ahold of her hand and spun her before bringing her back and dipping her.

Julie is stunned by the sudden move, her cheeks a light shade of red. She smiles shyly. "Yeah, that was better." He grinned at her, sending her a wink that made her blush before they both stood straighter and continued dancing.
