let's do this shit.
"PUT THE GUN DOWN, ADRIAN," Jada tried, looking in between him and the doctors that his gun was pointed at. They had driven to a veterinary clinic to help Eagly, but Adrian insisted on getting rid of witnesses since they saw them there.
"No," he answered plainly, keeping the gun on them. Jada sighed in annoyance, pinching the bridge of her nose frustratedly.
"Come on, this is the exact reason why I yelled at you in the first place. You can't just go around killing people," Jada explained, shaking her head at him.
"This is for good reason this time," Adrian told her, not letting go of her words from before.
"Maybe it's for a reason, but not for a good one," Jada argued. "Look, I know you're only doing this to save your ass, but sometimes you gotta be selfless."
"Selfless?" Adrian asked.
"Yeah, like how you were today. You almost blew yourself up for Chris. That was pretty selfless," Jada said, glancing at the veterinarians that were extremely confused, but kept their hands up anyway.
"Yeah, but he's my friend. These people aren't," Adrian voiced, making her sigh. "I don't care about these people."
"It doesn't matter if you care or not. They're still human beings!" Jada exclaimed before the bell dinged behind her. She wasn't angry at him, more disappointed that he wasn't understanding what she was trying to say. Nonetheless, she still wanted to fight for him to try and get him to understand.
"Thank God you guys are here," Economos greeted once Harcourt and Adebayo stormed into the veterinary clinic.
"What's going on?" Harcourt questioned immediately, her face doused with new bruises and cuts.
"Dr. Hurwitz kindly stitched up Eagly, and Vigilante's being a total freak," Economos explained to them and Jada nodded.
"Dude, they saw us. Peacemaker and I are wanted. What other choice do we have besides killing this veterinarian, this nurse, and this male nurse?" Adrian questioned.
"You can just say two nurses man," Adebayo told him.
Adrian shook his head, "If I just say 'nurse', I think people will imagine it as a woman."
"He's standing right there!" Adebayo exclaimed. "We don't have to imagine anything."
"It must be weird waking up every day and being a male nurse," Adrian commented, lowering his weapon.
"You're a fucking busboy," Economos spoke up.
"Oh, great! Now we definitely have to kill them, because you're giving away stuff about my secret identity," Adrian told him, raising his gun away.
"Adrian, seriously?" Jada said, placing her hands on her hips in disbelief.
"Do we really have to kill these people?" Economos asked Harcourt.
Harcourt hesitated, looking at Jada, who raised her brows at her, and then at Adebayo who did the same thing. She sighed, "No. We'll tie them up and by the time the morning staff comes in, we'll be long gone."
"They've seen our faces," Adrian argued.
"If we can't stop the butterflies today, it won't matter," Harcourt reasoned.
"Okay," Adrian let up before Adebayo walked out of the room. "But we can't use duct tape. That'll hurt their skin when they try to pull it off."
"Where are you going?" Harcourt questioned Adebayo.
"Just to call my wife, tell her I'm on my way back," Adebayo said before she left the room.
"So, you're compassionate about tape, but not about brutally murdering people?" Economos queried to understand what Adrian was saying.
Adrian thought about for moment before he answered, "Yes."
"Wow," Economos replied, blinking slowly.
"At least be grateful that he doesn't want to hurt them right now," Jada told him and Economos just shook his head. "What happened with Murn?" Jada then asked Harcourt since she had overheard Economos's conversation with her over the phone.
Harcourt sighed. "The butterflies killed him since he wasn't giving them any information," she told her before she leaned closer, whispering, "And then they proceeded to kill his butterfly."
Jada bit the inside of her cheek, not believing that Murn was actually dead. Even though he didn't make an effort to really be friendly to any of them, Jada still slightly admired him as a leader. He wasn't afraid to back down from a fight.
"That sucks. This sucks," Jada responded and Harcourt nodded, moving a piece of her blonde hair out of her face. "Adrian, maybe you can let them sit?" Jada suggested, not wanting to dwell on his death.
"Fine," Adrian said, lowering his gun to allow the vets to sit down. "If any of you move a muscle, then I will—"
"Do nothing," Jada cut him off. "He will do nothing."
"Hey!" Adrian groaned. "I wasn't gonna say that."
"Yes, you were," Jada gaslighted him before Smith walked into the room. "Hey, Chris," she greeted, still feeling bad for the man. He nodded his head at her, probably still upset over killing his father and Eagly. "Is Eagly okay?"
"He'll be fine," he told her and she nodded.
"Hey, we should get a move on killing this cow," Adebayo said once she walked back in the room, making them all look back at her.
"What about your wife?" Harcourt asked.
"Well, she's upset. But she gets it...sort of," Adebayo revealed.
"Cool."
"Okay, so how do we do this without Murn?" Economos questioned.
"Well, we have someone else that we can trust to lead us," Adebayo answered.
"Me?" Economos said in shock.
"No. Fuck, no," Adebayo said before she looked straight at the blonde in front of her. Harcourt looked taken aback before she looked at everyone else, getting their approval for her to be their new leader.

"The butterflies breathe our air and drink our water, but our food sources don't keep them alive. So they had to transport a creature from their planet across the galaxy. And now we know they keep it in the cavern below the barn on Coverdale Ranch. There, they milk the beast for the amber fluid. To stop the butterflies, all we have to do is kill the cow. Without it, they won't be able to stay alive for more than a couple of weeks. However, they almost certainly know that we're on our way to do that now. Which means they'll do what they can to move the cow out before we get there," Harcourt explained to them.
"How?" Smith asked.
"According to what Ads and I overheard, teleportation," Harcourt revealed. "I'm guessing they can move it towards one of their enclaves around the country, which means, to us, they will be lost forever, and all of our work goes to waste. Hopefully, we can make it there before they make their move."
"And then we go in there, and we kick ass like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," Adrian spoke up.
"They get slaughtered at the end of that film," Economos pointed out.
"Bro, there's a freeze-frame and we hear a bunch of bullets. That doesn't mean they died," Adrian argued.
"Yes, it does."
"I don't think so. I think they jumped over those bullets right after that freeze-frame."
"Well, that's an exceedingly optimistic interpretation," Economos commented.
"Both things are equally possible."
"No, they're not."
"Well, whichever one you believe says a lot about your character," Adrian pointed out with an arched brow.
"Yeah, about how insane you are."
Adrian laughed out loud. "Economos, I love this back-and-forth thing we have going. It's not as deep as, like, what Peacemaker and I have, but it's fucking cool."
Smith scoffed. "Whatever the case...I'm in."
"HashTag MeToo," Adrian joined in, making Jada sigh at him.
"I guess," Economos agreed.
"Yeah," Adebayo said with a smile.
"Let's do this shit," Jada voiced determinedly, nodding her head.
"Fuck, yeah," the veterinarian joined it.
"Let's do this shit," the nurse repeated, cocking her rifle that she somehow found.
"No."
"I think you need to calm down."
"Did you just copy what I said?"
"You can't come with us."
"You sure you don't need the help?" the veterinarian questioned.
"No, you'd just die," Smith told them.
"But we are gonna have to sequester your vehicle out there," Adebayo informed them.
After gathering all of their supplies and tying up the doctors, the team walked out of the clinic together and they hopped into the veterinarian's truck, driving to where the cow was.
Jada sat in the back with Adrian and Eagly, watching over them to make sure they were no signs of unseen damage from both of their injuries. "I had a dream about you," Adrian then spoke up, making Jada furrow her brows. "You were saying how you wanted to kiss me and how you were sorry that you yelled at me and how you pretended to forget about us kissing."
Her mouth parted. "Uh, that wasn't a dream," she informed him awkwardly, making him confused. "When you were passed out, I said those things to try and wake you up since I thought they'd make you stir."
"Oh. So you didn't really mean it?" he guessed, trying to hide his disappointment.
"I did mean it," she revealed quietly, making his eyes widen.
"You pretended to forget about us making out?" he asked and she nodded slowly. "Why?"
"Because of my trust issues. I felt like it all happened so fast and I didn't want to ruin it, so I just pretended it didn't happen in the first place. And then I just blew up at you anyway because of what you were saying. I'm sorry, but I can't keep trying to tell you not to kill innocent people, Adrian. I want you to understand why it bothers me and why I did what I did."
"I know."
"But you don't. You were about to do it again to those vets," she explained, her eyebrows raised. "It makes me think that...you don't really care about me. You just want me because...of my looks."
"Jada, that's not true. I-I just...I don't know! There's something wrong with my head and I don't know right from wrong. I always listen to you and I'll try to be better, I promise," he told her genuinely, a pleading look in his eyes since he didn't want to completely ruin things. "And I'm sorry for not trying hard enough before. I deserved to be yelled at."
She looked down, sighing. "I may have taken it too far, but thank you for your apology. I'll keep it mind," she said before she got up and planted a kiss on his cheek. It gave the both of them more hope that whatever was going on between them would eventually work out after this was all over.
