JADA LAID BACK AGAINST HER CHAIR, her feet up against her desk. The computer system had temporarily shut down, making them unable to contact Task Force X whatsoever. So, they decided to wait it out, hoping it would come back online.

Even though Jada didn't show it on her face, she was worried.

About Rick.

Yes, he had cheated and made her feel like complete shit before she was able to get over him, but that didn't mean that she could just stop caring about him. He was once one of the most important people in her life and it was hard for her to stop caring, which was why she always tried not to in the first place.

Then, all of a sudden, the computer screens began to flicker and flash, turning back on. "Uh, Miss Waller, I think the feed is back up," John Economos spoke up, making Jada open her eyes to look at her computer. She then heard a loud roar come from Economos's computer, making her take her feet off the desk and look over. "Oh, my God, Miss Waller! We've got a freaking kaiju up in this shit!"

Jada looked at the screen and saw a huge, blue starfish walking in the city of Corto Maltese, destroying every building it came across. "Oh, my God," she whispered, her distinct Cuban accent coming in thick. Even though she had lived in America for years after leaving Cuba with her family, it still stayed. And she was glad it did.

Waller walked over to Jada's desk, grabbing the radio to contact the team. Jada had usually been the one to contact Rick with it, since she had no problem doing so, so that's why it was on her desk. "Task Force X, come in. Are you there?" Waller asked over the radio.

After a moment of silence, Bloodsport hummed, "Uh-huh."

"Whatever signal jammers were blocking our communications must have been in the building you just demolished," she explained.

"Yeah, well, we've got a mite issue over here, Waller," Bloodsport told her slowly.

"It's Project Starfish, Miss Waller," Ratcatcher 2 came in over her radio. "It's headed towards the city, and I think it wants to feed on as many people as it can."

Jada stared at her screen, watching the destruction that the humongous starfish was causing. She couldn't believe her eyes, she was in complete shock. In all her years for working for Waller, she had never see something so...extraordinary in a bad way. Well, maybe apart from the Enchantress incident.

"Not our problem," Waller answered, causing Jada to glance back at her for a second, before looking back at her screen. "If you've destroyed Jotunheim and the records within, you've achieved the objective. Corto Maltese is no longer a US ally. If anything, the White House will consider fomenting disruption in a hostile nation a positive development."

Jada listened to her boss's words, her mouth parted. She knew Amanda Waller was basically emotionless except for the emotion of anger, but she didn't know that she was this...merciless. And this was coming from Jada, who was used to killing people with no problem before she got moved to her desk job.

Waller then handed the radio back Jada, who took it slowly from her hands. She glanced at Economos and Harcourt briefly before she faced towards her monitor, clearing her throat. She then clicked the button to speak on the radio, saying, "Let Colonel Flag lead you back safely. We'll be able to get a chopper soon."

"Colonel Flag is dead," Ratcatcher 2 informed her over the radio, causing Jada to immediately freeze. "Peacemaker betrayed us and killed him."

Jada just sat there, frozen in place and her breathing slowed. She couldn't believe what the girl was telling her. Rick was dead? There was no way. She had just spoken to him right before their computers shut down, making sure that everything had gone according to plan.

Her vision began to become fuzzy, her eyes losing focus ahead of her. She then quickly snapped out of it, no expression on her face whatsoever apart from the fact that she had gotten noticeably paler and her eyes had dilated.

She clicked the button on the radio again to speak. "Information received," she responded steadily before she put the radio down on her desk. She slowly turned in her seat, making eye contact with Waller before she looked away.

Her eyes then moved over to Harcourt and Economos, who both wore expressions of pity on their faces. She hated that; she hated when people had pitied her — she didn't need their pity. She could handle whatever was thrown at her easily.

But this was different.

This was...Rick.

Although she had shown no emotional sign of sadness, only physical, she was keeping it shoved down inside like she usually had done. However, this time, it felt like her insides were about to explode and she was moments away from combusting.

Her mind was racing with different thoughts that consisted of: Rick can't be dead, I'm going to kill Smith once this is over, why does Waller not care?

Her thoughts were then interrupted when a soft alarm wailed on one of the screens and Flo Crawley announced, "Bloodsport is off mission."

"What the..." Waller trailed off, walking over to the computer to see what he was doing.

Jada looked over, her reactions now slowed. The alarm then beeped again and Harcourt said, "Ratcatcher is also off mission!"

Waller grabbed the radio from Jada's desk once again and said, "Bloodsport, Ratcatcher, turn around," Waller told them before Nanaue began to follow after them. "Nanaue!"

After a moment, Harley Quinn and Polka-Dot Man also began to follow. "Krill, turn around now! Turn back now, God damn it!" Waller yelled into the radio furiously, but none of them listened. And Jada barely listened either, too focused on trying to fully process the information she received. "Open it," she then instructed to Harcourt, referring to the case of buttons that could kill all of Task Force X in less than a millisecond.

"Miss Waller—"

"Open it!" Waller shrieked, cutting Harcourt off. The blonde quickly grabbed the key and unlocked the case to reveal the red buttons with pictures of the squad.

"What are you doing, Task Force X?" she questioned but none of them answered as they continued to head towards the city. "Fuck!" she shouted, getting ready to kill Bloodsport first. "Turn around now, God damn it! You dumb pieces of shit! Motherfuckers! God damn it, Task Force X, this is your last motherfucking warning!"

Waller began to slowly bring her finger down onto the button that would explode Bloodsport's head before Crawley came up behind her and striked her head with a metal bar she somehow found.

Jada flinched slightly from the sound of it hitting Waller's head, her eyes widening at what Crawley had just done. "Oh, my God! What the fuck did you do?" Economos asked in shock.

"All these people, John...Little kids," Crawley said, everyone just staring at her in shock. No one had dared to cross Amanda Waller, let alone hit her in the head to knock her out, so everyone basically knew Crawley was fucked after Waller woke up.

Still, Harcourt sat back into her chair and connected her headpiece to Task Force X's radios. "Task Force X, the creature is headed to Calle Principal. Avoid Avenida Medrano. There is a swarm of infected," the blonde informed them.

"Jesus," Economos breathed out, also sitting back down. "So, your clearest path is Calle Aguero," he told them, typing away on his computer.

"Get on the satellite, Dale, you fucking dickhead!" Crawley screamed at Dale.

"Yes, ma'am," Dale whispered, walking away with wide eyes.

Jada turned back to her computer, heaving a sigh. She blinked rapidly before she began to type on her computer, wanting to help Task Force X save Corto Maltese.

The whole time, though, she kept thinking about wanting to kill Christopher Smith.

Okay so this chapter was basically just to set the "backstory" of Jada's character in the actual Peacemaker storyline.

Because I'm following how the show goes, Jada won't meet Adrian for like another 3 chapters I think? But don't worry, that doesn't mean the other chapters aren't as good guys. I wanted to establish her relationships with the rest of the group first before rushing into anything
