Chapter 2
Kagome sighed in relief as she finished unpacking and organizing her things in her new apartment that her mother found her a few weeks ago. Wiping the sweat off her brow, she went into her small yet tidy kitchen and prepared herself some tea. A few minutes later, the kettle whistled, and she took it off the stove swiftly and poured the steaming water into a tea cup. Opening up the spicies cabnet, she shifted through the many seasonings and found earl grey tea. Humming in satisfaction, she began crushing the leaves and then dumped them into the cup of water. Stirring it up with a spoon, she picked it up and went into the living room to sit on the couch with a gusty sigh.
"GAH!!!!" She suddenly jumped up at the scream, and bolted to her door, ripping it open at her haste. Looking down the hall to her left, she saw a younger female with short brown hair and brown eyes stomping in front of her apartment door, muttering curses under her breath.
"Uh, you okay there?" She asked uncertainly. The girl stopped and turned toward her and gave a sheepish smile.
"Yeah...my boss is just being a jerk," she explained herself, and then a curious expression came about her. "Did you just move here?" Kagome nodded as an answer, and the unknown female frowned. "Don't you know the history of apartment 713? Someone was killed there a few weeks ago; a man of 27," she informed whilst nodding to herself. Kagome was disturbed, but she was used to death, thanks to her trips to the Sengoku era.
"Well, my name is Higurashi, Kagome; nice to meet you," she stepped out of her doorway and stuck out her hand to shake.
The girl smiled and took her hand in her's. "Pleasure to meet you. I am Taniyama, Mai. I hope we could be good friends." The grin on her face was a bit concerning, but it was completely genuine. Kagome grinned back.
"Un! Ne Taniyama-san, do you know where I can find a part time job?"
"Oh yeah. I work at the SPR and my boss, Naru, is only 19! Can you believe that?" Mai babbled as they leaned against the wall casually, chatting to each other.
"Naru? What kind of name is that?" Kagome wondered aloud, not exactly expecting an answer.
"It's a stupid and childish name that this little idiot whipped up for me. I still wonder about her brain pattern," a male's voice said from the right of them, by the staff stairs and elevators. Kagome and Mai took in the male with dark hair and blue-gray eyes that narrowed at the unknown female beside his employer. He took a step closer and cast his gaze toward the brunette. "Mai, I told you to be by the office at 2 p.m.; it's already 3." He crossed his arms and glared coldly at her.
Kagome, on the other had, couldn't take her eyes off of this boy. He looked very familiar, but she can't place her finger on it. The structure of his face and his mannerisms totally reminds her of someone that she once knew, but the memory she tried to conjure up was not coming to her. "I'm sorry, but I'm kind of new here, and I wanted to get to know my new neighbor. I was not aware that she had somewhere to be," she bowed politely and brushed some strands away from her face.
"I don't care. Mai, let's go." With that, he turned away rudely and fully expected the young female to follow him. Before she could take a step after him, she was stopped by the upset miko, who trembled in anger.
"Hold it right there, pal! Don't go ordering people around like their your pet and at least introduce yourself like a proper boy!" She stomped her foot in rage as her spiritual powers arose in response to her emotions.
Naru turned with furrowed brows and glared at the female dressed in a light blue sun dress and white sandals. "Who I am is none of your business, so I would watch that temper of yours."
Kagome glared at the teen dressed in black and growled under her breath. Suddenly, she pointed at him with a shaky finger. "YOU BASTARD! I REALLY WANT TO HIT YOU SO BAD RIGHT NOW!!!!"
