Chapter Two
(Jerome's POV)
I see Ty's head dip below the water, but he doesn't come back up. I only meant it as a joke! This wasn't sapose to happen! Oh Notch what did I do? I probably killed him! I stop running along the river to take stock of my situation. Mitch is somewhere behind me, and everyone else went back to base camp to get a medic if we find Ty. I really hope I didn't kill him.
I hear some branches break, and Mitch runs out out of the trees and up to me, "Did *pant* you find him *pant* Biggums?" He pants. Biggums is a name that he's called me since we were little kids.
"Oh God Mitch! I lost him! I saw his head go under and then he disappeared! What are we gonna do?" I panic. I start pacing and try to think of some way that this isn't my fault, but the guilt just keeps piling up.
"Come on Jerome, we'll find him. Ty's stronger then he looks. Since he fell in the river, he probably is just a bit of the way downstream. We just gotta go and find him", Mitch says, trying to chear me up. It doesn't work, though. I really hope we find Ty before Jason finds out.
(Ssunndee's POV)
We race back to camp as Jerome and Mitch run after Ty. I still can't believe that the river swept him away.
"You should of been the one to kill him" says a demented voice in my head.
'No way', I think back to Derp, 'Ty wasn't a bad guy. He doesn't deserve to die, unlike you!'.
"You're just jealous that the river beat you to it".
'No I'm not, you are'. I ignore the rest of what Derp says as we run back into camp. I've never really figured out what he is, but he's been with me for as long as I can remember.
Our group leader goes to tell General Ant what happened, and I go the healer's ward. It's a big stone building that's meant to be a safe house if the camp was ever attacked. I race inside and skid to a halt. I know witch medic to get, because he can breath under water.
"QUINTEN", I shout down the hall. I hear a crash, and a disheveled hybrid comes skittering out of one of the rooms. Quinten is a bit of an oddity. He obviously has a some squid heritage in his blood, but he hates their ideas and moral. He showed up at the armies doorstep with nothing but the clothes on his back and medical training.
"Ssunndee? YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO YELL IN HERE", he screams at me, "So, what do you need?"
"A recruit fell in the river, and since you're a fish, I thought you could help find him".
"I'M NOT A FISH", he yells before storming out of the building. "Now, where is the river? We can't waste any time if you want him alive", Quinten asks.
"Follow me", I say as I lead him into the woods.
(Jason's POV)
My group was assigned to train in camp today, so I was sparing with one of my group members when I hear running coming from the woods. I turn to see a group of people charging into camp. One goes into General Ant's office, while another one goes into the hospital ward. Not bothering to tell my group leader, I run over to go see what's wrong.
I skid to a halt in front of them, and ask, "What happened? Why is there three people missing from your group?". They give me a mortified look, before a girl speaks up.
"I'm so sorry Jason. I know how close you two were".
"W-what do you mean", I ask as a sinking feeling fills my chest.
"It's Ty. The river..... i-it washed him down stream. Mitch and Jerome are looking for him....". My heart shatters into a million pieces. Ty........ he can't be dead. He's like a brother to me. He can't be gone.
I blindly start running in the direction of the river. I sprint past two people, who shout at me as I run past. I dimly take note of them following me as I charge forward. I see the river, and start running along side it. Two more people blur past me, and start chasing after me as well. But I don't stop. I ha-, no, need, to find Ty. As I run, the glimmer of something shiny catches my eye. I turn my head towards it, shriek, and charge at it.
