~Chapter 3~

After I got myself under control, I straightened my hair and clothing. I looked him dead in the eyes and said, "I've come to call on your highness, my name is Alivia Asai." The king stared at me and nodded. "I'm recent without a home, for my father had fallen ill and is passed." The king seemed to ponder my words. "My condolences," he said. "However, your highness, I have nowhere to stay," I said. He smirked like he was formulating a plan in his head. "Then I suppose you may stay here," he said. I forced a fake smile. "Thank you, your highness!" I said. "You may stay in the guest quarters, Yu Cheng will take you there later. For now, join me for some tea." He said.

Yu Cheng had returned within twenty minutes and escorted me to my new living quarters. I was given two servants of my own. Yasmin and Iris were their names. I also received one of the king's personal bodyguards, Ling Chi. Before Yu Cheng left he said, "Be bathed and dressed to dine with his highness the king promptly at six. The king will await in the Imperial Garden for you."

I had Yasmin draw hot water for my bath, while Iris brushed and styled my hair with gold incrested hairpins. As I relaxed in my bath, Yasmin and Iris picked an outfit from my new wardrobe, courtesy of the king. Afterward, they helped me into my scarlet and silk dress with creme colored flats. I breathed before I went out to greet the king. This is going to be a long dinner, I thought.
