~Chapter 1~
Everything is gone, my father, my home, even my steed, Gracie, of which I cherished has fled into the vast forest surrounding our little town. Searching the town for a place to stay, previous close friends shut and bolt their doors before I even get the chance to ask. After hours of wandering, I find a secluded alley and pass out from exhaustion.
Sooner than I hoped, daybreak came with much dread and dreary rain. My eyes slowly open as rain droplets hit my linen blouse drenching me. As I stand and start to look for a dry place to reside from the rain, my stomach grumbles in displeasure and hunger. Having not eaten in a few days I'm looking quite thin. I soon find an overhanging from some tea shop and sit and start to wring out my blouse. Listening to the pitter-patter of the rain, I soon fall back asleep.
I'm rudely awakened by the tea shop owner telling me not to sleep by his shop as he ushers me away from his small shop. As my stomach once again rumbles, I quickly take out the only money I have left, two copper coins. That's enough to get me at least a pastry and a small cup of tea. I offer my coins to the man and he grunts and walks inside with my coins leaving me there. After ten minutes pass, I begin to wonder if the man is coming back or not. The man comes back muttering to himself about something and gruffly hands me a small pastry. However, I paid for a pastry and a small cup of tea. "What of my tea?" I ask. He just shrugs and just mutters something that sounded like, "young people, so ungrateful." He merely scoffed and walk off back towards his small tea shop.
