Chapter 6: Harondale's Love
Anna went to the mental ward to see the patients. She watched the patients as the doctors' in charge took care of them. A small smile escapes her lips as she glanced around; watching the patients being happy and healthy makes her happy as well. The doctors greeted her respectably as she walked passed them.
"Boo!" A boy startled her from behind.
"Alan! You scared me!" she was not scared at all but she lied. Alan west is a mental patient; he is seventeen years old but due to his mental illness, he lives like a five-year-old kid. He reminds her much of Nicolo, happy and jolly all the time.
"I got you! I got you!" he squealed happily and clapped his both hands.
"Alan!" A male voice called him out and he quickly hid behind Anna with a dreadful expression.
"Bad doctor!" Alan whispered behind Anna.
"Hello, Doctor Blake."
"Hello, Director." He said courtly and looked over her shoulder. "Alan, it's time for your bath." He said softly.
"I don't want to get wet now." He whined.
Then Anna scrunched her nose repeatedly and decided to play an act. "Doc, don't you smell something weird!" she acted and he immediately understood what she was trying to do.
"Oh yes! I can smell it too and it's very awful!" He acted along. Anna sniffled and turned to face Alan and went near him.
"Oh! The smell is coming from him." Anna pointed at him. Alan felt embarrassed and his cheeks were turning pale pink. "Alan, you really need to bath."
"Okay!" he said sheepishly.
Anna chuckled at him and cupped his cheek. Alan gasped out loud and blushed harder. "Take a bath and rest well. I'll bring something for you tomorrow." She said softly and Alan immediately nodded at her.
"Look at you, you're blushing!" Dr Blake pointed out amusedly. Alan quickly took him by his wrist and dragged him along with him.
"I need to bath!" Alan said as he scurried away blushing. Anna couldn't help but chuckle softly at his silly behaviour.
Since her work was done for the day, she decided to go home and stay with her family for a while before coming back to work at night. She informed Layla about her leave.
"Don't come back, rest properly. And don't worry; there are many doctors to look after their patients." Layla insisted and suggested her to take rest.
"Let's see!" Anna said before leaving.
She reached home and parked her car outside the entrance. And as she entered inside, Val came running to her and she picked him up on her arms.
"Hello my love, you missed me dearly!" Val nodded at her and giggled when she planted kisses on his face.
"Oh! My princess is back." Samuel popped out from the door and winked at her.
"Stop flirting with my sister." Vernon came from behind and slapped him at the back of his head.
"She's my sister too." Samuel defended and strolled forward.
"Val, come to Zio, Momma must be tired," Vernon said attempting to take him on his arm but Val whined over and clung onto Anna's tightly.
"Let him be," Anna said softly and strolled in further. Vernon and Samuel followed her behind.
"Where's Jo?" She asked when she didn't see her elder brother.
"He's with Nonno and Zio in the study room," Vernon answered.
"And what're you doing here? You should be there too right! Or there's no need for the Underboss!" Anna mocked at him and tucked her tongue out. Vernon pointed an accusation finger at her and narrowed his eyes at her.
"I'll see you in combat." He gave her challenging eyes.
"Tessa, you're home," Joshua said and strolled towards her. Reginald and Michael were behind him. Anna placed Val to his feet and ran to her brother and hugged him tightly.
"You see Val, you're Momma loves your uncle more than you," Vernon said-jested lifting up Val on his arms.
"Don't poison his mind," Anna narrowed her eyes at him. Vernon gave her a cheeky grin and tucked his tongue out to her and Anna did the same.
"Ah! My nephew and niece still act like kids." Michael sighed.
"This is what makes me happier looking at my grandchildren being playful to each other," Reginald said feeling nostalgic. Anna smiled at him and bent down in front of him.
"How's your leg now, Nonno?" she asked.
"It's fine, my dear," He said softly.
"I bought you some tonic medicines. It is good for proper nerves functioning." Anna said to which Reginald made a face and whined over. "Nonno, did you take your medicine today or not?" She narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest.
"I did."
"Good!" Anna sounded satisfied. "Zio, get married soon." She looked at Michael and said all of a sudden. "I'm tired of being the only girl in this all-male house." She pouted to which all the males chuckled at her.
"Are you even a girl?" Vernon teased and laughed at her.
"I'll see you in combat." Anna glared at him to which Vernon simply shrugged off and walked towards her. He circled his arms around her and placed a soft kissed on her forehead.
"I'm so lucky to have you as my sister, do you know that?" Anna smiled and nodded at him. "I'm just kidding," he couldn't stop but play with her. Anna shrugged off from his hold and slapped him on his arm.
"I love you so much." He said and pulled her into a hug. Anna grinned widely and hugged him back. But then their lovely moment was disturbed by a phone call. Anna reached for her phone into her bag and received it.
"Yes, Maria," she said over the phone.
"Anna, I call you to remind you about my wedding vacation, you still remember, right!" Maria asked.
"Yeah, I remember just now!" she answered cheekily.
"I hate you!"
"I love you!"
"You have to be here by this weekend."
"Ah—Maria, I think I won't be—"
"I need you, Ann, you're my best friend." Maria pleaded. "Is Vernon there with you right now?" Anna hummed in reply. "Can you please let me talk to him?" she asked.
"Okay, sure!" Anna said and gave the phone to Vernon. Vernon creased his brows in confusion, "Maria wants to talk to you." She said and he took the phone from her.
"Yes, Maria. Decided to cancel the wedding and run away with me!" Vernon teased her to which Anna simply rolled her eyes over. Then he listened to the phone for some minutes and finally spoke, "Don't worry, I'll make sure that she comes. Congratulations!" He said and passed the phone to Anna.
"I've talked to your brother. You don't need to worry about anything, just pack your things and get on the plane by this weekend. I'll come to receive you at the airport. Till then take care. See you soon bestie. I love you." She squealed in excitement before hanging up the call.
Anna looked at Vernon expectantly. "I will free your schedule for a week. Go and enjoy with your friends. You need some break." Vernon said as he cupped her cheeks.
"No! A week is too much. I'll be going on the day before her wedding. I have to look over my patients." Anna said.
"Dr Monroe will be here tomorrow. He has gone for long leaving you with loads of work. I'll give in charge to him in your absence. Alright!" Vernon said.
"Dr Monroe will be returning this weekend, not tomorrow." Anna corrected him.
"I told him to come back immediately,"
"When did you tell him?"
"Today—"
"Did you threaten him?"Anna crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes at him.
"No, I didn't." Vernon shrugged off.
"I don't believe you—"
"Don't you wanna spend your vacation with your best friend? She's soon going to start a new life. Be with her and support her like what best friends do for each other." Vernon said as he tenderly looks down at his beautiful sister.
"Why are you so good at convincing people?" Anna chuckled. "Okay, I'll go."
"Where is the wedding destination?" Joshua asked.
"California, LA," Anna answered. "I'm taking Val with me. I'm sure that you boys will be busy enough to even look after my son." She said amusedly.
"Don't worry about Val; my mother will look after him. I'm sure she'll be very excited and happy to look after him." Samuel said.
"No, I don't wanna trouble Aunt Maya." Anna rejected softly.
"I heard someone saying my name, was it good or bad?" An elder lady entered inside the common hall and strolled towards them. Her hands were full of bags of candies and cookies.
"Momma, what're you doing here?" Samuel asked.
"I came to visit my little Val." She answered.
"Nonna!" Val ran towards her and stretched his arms to reach for the bags.
"Yes, my dear boy, it's all for you." She squealed and gave the bags to him. Then she straightened up and looked at Anna.
"What happened, dear? Is everything alright?"
"Anna's going on a friend's wedding vacation and she's planning to take Val with her—" Vernon started explaining.
"Won't it be troublesome for both of you? Because I know how this wedding vacation works. There's no place for kids. You go and enjoy with your friends. I'll look after Val." Maya said softly.
"That's exactly what we were talking about!" Samuel prodded. "You go and enjoy with your friends and momma will take care of Val in your absence."
"I don't wanna trouble you."
"Oh no dear, looking after Val will be my pleasure and moreover I feel very boring doing nothing and staying alone at home. Val might just feel my loneliness unlike him." Maya said and gave an accusation look at Samuel.
"I'm sorry for keeping him away from home," Vernon said sheepishly.
"Both of you!" Maya sighed and rolled her eyes over. "Why don't we just marry them off? It's like they can't live without each other."
"Wow! Momma, don't spoil our friendship!"
"Why don't you just marry my uncle and let us be brothers?" Vernon joked. The kids know that there's something going on between her and their uncle. And it's not a new thing to them. Both the best friend laughed and high fived each other.
"Vernon!" Michael gave him a pointed looked.
"Both of you come here!" Maya said and charged at them but they ran away to which she started chasing after them and Val happily joined them.
Reginald glanced back at Michael who was standing behind him. "Ask her for the marriage before it's too late." He suggested amusedly. Even Joshua and Anna looked at him and gave him an amused smile.
"Don't look at me like that!" Michael rolled his eyes over.
"Remember my word, Zio. Get married soon and bring me a company." Anna amusedly said.
"Okay, I got it, biscuit!" Michael couldn't help but chuckle at his sweet niece.
"Now go on dear and get your stuff packed. I bet you'll be leaving early morning the day after tomorrow." Reginald said. "I'll just manage to survive this one week without my only granddaughter." He said quietly but amusedly.
"Nonno, promise me that you'll have your medicine on time and regularly."
"Yes, I will, my dear."
"Don't worry, Tessa, I'll make sure that he'll take his medicine daily," Joshua assured her.
"Come on now let's get your stuff packed," Joshua said and stood behind her. He kept his hands on her shoulders and pushed her forward towards her room.
"What's the rush, Jo? I'm only leaving the day after tomorrow." Anna whined over him.
"Yeah, I know. But advance preparation is better than later," Joshua said and dragged her along with him.
Joshua and Anna got busy packing her luggage.
"Tessa, be careful on the sun. Don't get tanned." Joshua said as he helped her with her things. "These are sunscreens, put them as much as you can and protect your skin."
"Yes! I will." Anna couldn't help but get amused at her brother's advice.
"Tessa, did you hit your period this month?" He asked making her snapped towards him. He was carrying two packets of sanitary pads on his both hands.
"Jo!" she shrieked and quickly grabbed the pads packet from his hand. Joshua chuckled softly looking at his little sister.
"I'm your brother, Tessa," Joshua said in a teasing tone.
"I know but a little privacy to your sister," Anna replied back with a sheepish grin.
After some hours, they were done with the packing and Vernon entered inside.
"Where's Aunt Maya and Samuel?" she asked.
"They headed back home." He answered.
"They didn't stay for dinner. Where's Val then?"
"I cleaned him and fed him already and now he's sleeping." Vernon shrugged off.
"Aww! Thank you so much, brother dear," Anna smiled at him sweetly and squealed.
"Thank me later. Now I'm here to bath my little sister." He teased and Anna's face fell immediately.
"Why do you always—" Anna grabbed the pillow from her bed and threw at him. Vernon quickly dodged it away and strolled towards her and picked her up by her stomach, putting her on his shoulder. "Put me down!" she slapped him hard on his back. He made his way to the swimming pool and as he reached, he attempted to throw Anna into the pool but he didn't. He put her down on her feet and smiled cheekily at her.
"I don't wanna swim alone, join me, princess!"
Joshua leisurely walked towards them wearing an amused smiled and after reaching them, he put his one leg up and pushed Vernon into the pool. Anna laughed out loud.
"Serves you right!" she laughed at him.
Vernon scoffed standing inside the pool and splashed water at both of them. Anna screamed and quickly went behind Joshua.
"You wait, I'm coming for you!" Joshua said and took his shirt off. Vernon quickly moved away from his position when Joshua attempted to jump over him. Both the brothers were in the water now, splashing waters at each other like kids. Anna sat by the edge of the swimming pool, her legs inside the water and she stared at her brothers. She was feeling really lucky to have them as her brothers, brothers who loved her so much.
"Tessa, join us," Joshua said and stretched his arms at him.
"No! I don't—" Her words died midway when a hand quickly dragged her into the water. "Vernon, I'm going to kill you!" she yelled and chased after him.
Reginald and Michael were happily staring down at their children from the balcony.
"They look very happy," Reginald stated.
"Yes, they are, Father. Fredrick and Jocylene would be very happy to see their children right now." Michael said feeling heavy as he thought about his brother and sister-in-law.
"Anastasia is so much like her mother, innocent, pure and humble. I couldn't be happier to have her as my granddaughter."
"We couldn't be happier to have her in our family." Michael corrected his father and smiled proudly as he stared down at his wonderful nephews and niece.
After some minutes of playing inside the water, they were out of the pool and were drying their hair. Joshua put the towel on Anna's head and gently dries her hair. Vernon came in front of her and seated beside her as he dried his hair roughly and rubbed his hair in front of Anna's face.
"Stop bothering your sister." Joshua gently jabbed on his head.
"Oh! Tessa, I was about to ask you something!"
"What is it?"
"Val was telling me earlier before he went to sleep that he met his Papa today," Vernon said. Anna's eyes went wide as she knows whom he was referring to as his 'Papa'.
"Val's always like that when he visits Hospital. He starts referring as his Papa to every stranger he meets." Anna lied. She knows that if she tells her brothers about Leo, it will do no good.
"I'm jealous." Joshua joked and laughed.
Vernon laughed along and looked at his sister, then his eyes suddenly fell on Anna white sleeve which was stained with faded blood. He gently reaches for her hand and folded up her sleeve. "Who did this to you?" he demanded as ager washed over his face.
"What happened?" Joshua quickly took her hand and scanned. His eyes filled with anger as he saw the cut in his sister's hand. "Tessa, tell me who did this to you and I'll kill that person right away."
"Nobody did anything! I mistakenly cut myself while I was doing some experiment." She lied. She knows her brothers very well now; they cannot see even a little injury upon her. And if she told them the truth, her patient would probably be dead by the morning.
"You don't sound convincing! I'll have it enquire tomorrow morning and find that person." Vernon spat out.
"I'm telling the truth!" she pouted and slapped hard on his arm.
"Ouch! Okay, I believe you!" He cried in pain. "You really have a heavy hand, sister dear," He complaint, rubbing on his slapped arm and walked away.
"Tessa, let's get inside and tend your wound," Joshua said and Anna nodded at him and walked inside.
The next morning, Vernon went to wake his princess. He entered her room and saw that Anna was already awake and was simply lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
"What happened, princess? Had a nightmare!" Vernon asked and curled up to her bed and laid beside her. Anna simply shook her head in reply. "Tessa!" She hummed in reply and looked at him. "Did you meet him yesterday?" he asked.
"Him, Who?"
"Joshua was with us yesterday so I didn't say anything." He shuffled and looked up to the ceiling. "Val said that he saw his father, the guy that you always stare at your phone screen." He said quietly. Anna's face saddens and her eyes fell down.
"I'm sorry, I lied." She said quietly.
"You still love him, don't you?" Vernon turned towards her and asked quietly.
"I don't know!" she sighed heavily.
"What the hell was he doing at the hospital?"
"Roberto was being shot so they brought him in our hospital and we encountered each other." She explained honestly.
"Did he try to kill you or say anything to you?" Vernon said with a bit of angry tone.
"No! We simply ignored each other." She said quietly.
"It must have been very hard for you." Vernon pulled her closer by her waist and kissed on her forehead. "I know you still love him and I'm not against it but you know our history, Nonno will never make an alliance with them nor Marcus. It will only cause you both pain. It's better to avoid before it's too late." He advised softly as he brushed her hair gently.
"I know," she whispered under his chest.
"Ah—how am I gonna survive this one week without my princess?" Vernon said jested changing the topic.
"One week is nothing as compare to fourteen years long, I know you can do it." Anna looked up to him and said cheekily. He chuckled softly and his eyes fell on the necklace he gave her.
"This necklace really matches you."
"You always say that," Anna said and smiled looking at the necklace. "I remember that day very well, I actually chose this for you to give it to your sister as a gift but turns out that I was the sister."
"And I felt like the luckiest brother in the world when I discovered that you were the one we've been searching for." He said and pinched at the bridge of her nose.
"Me too!" Joshua came strolling in. He too curled up on the bed and laid on the other side of Anna. Anna was now stuck between her brothers. She laughed out loud making her brothers creased their eyebrows at her in confusion. Then she darted between her brothers and grinned at them.
"I'm so lucky to have you both as my brothers." She placed a kissed on Joshua's left cheek and then on Vernon's right cheek. And both the brothers chuckled at her and place a kissed on both her cheeks.
"Wah! Val will be very jealous right now if he sees you all." Michael entered inside wearing an amused smile and stood at the end of the bed. "Breakfast's ready my children," he informed them. "And both of you, we have some business to attend. Get ready; we're going straight after breakfast."
"What kind of business? Is it dangerous? I'm coming too." Anna said as worry spike out in her veins.
"No, biscuit, it's just some exporting and importing business." Michael tried to explain.
"You always say like that, Zia and end up coming home with bullets." She was about to cry as she was reminded about the past incidents where Joshua once made home with two bullets shot on his chest and abdomen and also once Vernon was badly injured and came home.
"Let me come with you all, I will protect you all." She urged.
"Tessa, don't worry. I swear this time it's just business, no war." Michael assured. "And we'll be home soon before you even know."
"Yes, Tessa, now stop worrying and go to your work," Joshua said softly and cupped her cheeks.
"Promise me, you all will come back home safely."
"We promise!" They said in unison.
