Chapter 5: Nothing is the Same

Anna rushed towards Val and curved down to his level, "What are you doing here? Where's Uncle Sam?" She asked.

"He's talking over the phone." He answered. "Momma," Anna hummed in reply, then Val lifted his left hand and point to his left, at Leo and smiled widely, "Papa—" he said looking at Leo to which Leo creased his brows and looked at the kid with a confused look.

"Val, Momma is busy right now okay. I will come to see you in a while. Go with sister Leni okay!" she said softly and straightened up. "Take him to Samuel." She said to Leni.

"Yes, doc—c'mon Val. Let's go and hunt for Uncle Samuel." Leni said and reach for him but Val quickly stepped back and whined over.

"I want to stay here with Momma and Papa—" Val cracked up in a crying voice.

"No, you can't," Anna gave him a pointed looked making little Val cringe. He moved towards Leo and hauled up over him to which Leo willingly lifted him up on his lap.

"You're scaring the kid." Leo deadpanned looking at Anna.

"Papa, you're very good," Val said hugging him tightly.

"He is not your Papa," Anna interjected and reached for Val, to take him away from Leo but Val tightened his hold around Leo when she tried to take him away. "Val! Why are you acting like this? You don't love me!" She couldn't help but frown over. Val withdrew from Leo's arms and moved towards Anna and pulled her down to his level.

"I love you, Momma." He said and cupped Anna's cheek with his little hand. "What happened to you and Papa?" He asked and glanced at Leo.

"Alright, let me make it clear, love. He is not your Papa." Anna said softly glancing at Leo.

"Then who is my Papa? Where is he?" He asked but Anna couldn't answer him. Then he turned towards Leo and said, "But Momma, he is the same man from your phone."

"Okay, enough. Now be a good boy and go with sister Leni. I'll come and see you in a while, okay!" Anna said softly to which Val nodded at him. Leni came and lifted him up on her arms. Val smiled and waved at Leo before he was taken out of the room.

"You're already a mother now, Anna!" Alesso was still taking his time processing his mind from his shocked state. Anna simply threw him a glance and didn't say anything.

"He was addressing Leo as his father, why is that so?" Roberto asked as he suspiciously darted between them. "Did you guys—"

"Not a chance!" Anna and Leo both shout in unison, shutting Roberto to say anymore.

"Don't forget to take your medicine on time. We did some few tests on you. The results will be out in the evening and in the meantime, you should take rest." She advised Roberto and left the room at once.

Anna gave a nice lecture to Samuel for letting Val go around on his own. But in the middle of her chiding, Samuel got a call from Joshua and he had to go.

"What happened?" He asked over the phone and listen for some seconds, "Okay, I'm coming right over." he said and hung up the call. Then he turned towards Anna who was already looking at him with concerned and worried eyes.

"Why are you giving me that look, Princess? Don't worry, nothing's serious. Joshua needs me in dealing with some minor business." Samuel said.

"Can I believe you?" Anna crossed her arms over her chest and questioned.

"I have to go now. I'll come and pick Val when I'm done."

"Don't take the trouble. I got some free time schedule today. I'll take him home later." Anna said under her sighing.

"Alright, see you later, Princess." He said and turned to walk away.

"Samuel!" She called out for him to which he made a quick turn to face her. "Be careful." She said.

"I will, Princess." He winked at her before walking away again.

"Where is Zio going?" Val came from behind her and asked as he saw Samuel exiting from the entrance.

"He has some works to do," Anna answered. "Come now, let's go home." She said to which Val frowned over and look around. But his face immediately lightened when he saw Leo walking by the hallway and he quickly rushed towards him.

"Val!" Anna turned and called out to him but he didn't stop, then she followed him behind.

"Papa—" Val grinned widely and hugged Leo around his thighs, looking up to him. Leo gave him a smile and curved down on his level.

"What is your name?"

"Valentino," Val answered. "Papa, I'm hungry."

"Val," Anna reached and pulled him towards her. "How many times do I have to tell you that he is not your Papa?" she chided softly at him. "You cannot just go on calling anyone your Papa."

Then Val turned towards Leo and grabbed his large finger into his small hand, "He's not anyone. I know him. I know you know him too, Momma."

"I don't know him." Anna snapped.

"You're lying, Momma. You said one should not lie, it is not good." Val said.

"I know. Come now, Nonno's calling you home." She said and reached for him but Val quickly moved behind Leo. Anna couldn't help but give him a pointed look.

"I don't want to go home. I'm going to eat with Papa." Val said making Anna sigh in deject and rolled her eyes over.

"Val, why—"

"I'm taking him to eat." Leo interrupted and lifted up Val on his arms.

"No, I'll take him to eat." Anna rejected and reached for her son but Leo quickly turned away from her. Little Val laugh adorably when Leo made a turn away from his mother, Leo grin handsomely looking at the little kid. A small smile escaped Anna's lips as well. "Give my son to me, Leo." Anna attempted to take Val but Leo turned to the other side again.

"You three look lovely." Leo and Anna snapped their heads and saw Layla standing some few steps away from them. "What's going on?" She asked and strolled towards them.

"I want to eat with Papa but Momma is not allowing me," Val answered.

"Papa!" Layla exclaimed and gave Anna a teasing look, "That was quick, Anna."

"I think you should join them too. It's already lunchtime." Layla suggested glancing at her wristwatch. "I'm going for my lunch too. Enjoy!" She said and half turned before facing them again. "Leo, make sure that she has her lunch. She barely gets time to have her lunch but then she skips it whenever she gets time as well." She said giving Anna a faking stern look before walking away.

"Let's go." Leo cleared his throat and said before walking towards the entrance.

As Anna was about to make her way towards them; she heard someone's shouting from some distance.

"Don't come near me or I'll cut you."

She saw a patient holding a knife in his hand and he was striking the knife to whoever was trying to get close to him. Anna quickly rushed towards the incident. Leo turned only to see Anna walking away from him. He was disappointed but didn't let it show. It took him some moment to notice what's going on in the hallway.

"Don't come near me or I'll cut you." The patient reiterated and points the knife towards Anna who was trying to get near him.

"That's not your toy, Mr Gale. Give it to me, it is dangerous." Anna said and carefully stretched her hand slowly as she tried to go near him but he strikes her on her hand and cut her. Leo was surfaced with anger immediately when he saw the man striking the knife at Anna. He attempted to pull out his gun as he angrily strolled towards the hallway but then he remembers that his gun was taken by Anna the other night.

"Show me." He said and took her hand gently and cursed under his breath, glaring at the man. The cut was at least two inches and it was bleeding but not deeper.

"I'm fine!" Anna said and took her hand away from him. She was confused and angry at the same time of how Leo sounded so worried about her. Leo withdrew Val on his feet and straightened up.

"I'm going to kill him." He gritted and marched towards the man.

"No, you can't." Anna quickly came in front of him and stopped him. "He is my patient. I can handle it." She said.

Anna went near and the man tried to strike her again but this time she took the man by his hand and twisted around. The man groaned in pain and let go of the knife. She quickly hit on his neck, using her hand technique and strikes him to the ground.

"Take him back to his mental ward and make sure that he doesn't escape again." She informed the nurses' in charge. And soon Layla came rushing with the first aid box.

"Why did you carelessly go after him? How many times will I tell you to be careful? Why don't you just listen to me and take care of your health? You hardly sleep these days because of them and you're getting this kind of treatment from them. Why don't you just counsel to the government mental department and send them off?" Layla was never-ending with her talks because she was worried sick about Anna and couldn't help but chide at her.

"Weren't you out for lunch?" Anna interrupted and asked.

Layla looked at her and sighed in exasperation. "Yes, I was. But then I saw you."

"I can't do that. They will be treated with different kind of tests which will only harm their health and they will not be treated properly. Moreover, their family members entrusted them to my hospital so I have to keep them." Anna said quietly. And as Layla was about to say something again, Anna continued, "Go for your lunch, I'll do it myself." She said and took the box from her hand.

"No!" Layla said sternly and took the box back from her. "I'll do—"

"Let me do it!" Leo interrupts quietly and took the box from her.

"Alright!" Layla said and passed the kit to Leo.

"Enjoy your lunch." Anna smiled looking at Layla.

"You too and please take care!" Layla said in a worried tone before turning away on her heels.

Anna quietly reached for the first aid box but Leo quickly dodged it away from her. "Give it to me. I can do it myself." Anna said not looking him in the eyes. Leo didn't listen to her. He took her by her hand and placed her on the chair beside them and he sat next to her. Anna mind took over and she stared at him with sad eyes as he tends her cut.

"Momma, are you okay?" Val asked worriedly with watery eyes as he stared at the cut.

"I'm fine, honey. Your Papa is tending me right now, I'll be fine." Anna said, not realizing what she just said. Leo gave him a glance and continued tending her cut.

"Done!"

"Papa, I'm hungry," Val said looking at Leo.

"We'll go and eat now," Leo said lifting up Val on his arms and gestured Anna to follow them.

"How can he be so cool about someone's son calling him Papa?" Anna questioned herself staring at Leo's back.

"It's because he love kids very much." A familiar voice said beside her and startled her. Alesso smiled widely looking at her. "I missed you so much, Anna."

"You're still the same, Alesso." Anna said expressionlessly.

"But you've changed." Alesso side glanced at her and narrowed his eyes towards her. "You're a mother now and you became more beautiful and irresistible."

"Stop bluffing!" Anna rolled her eyes over and suddenly became serious. "But nothing is the same as it was five years ago."

"I never consider you as my enemy, Anna." Alesso said quietly staring at space.

"You should go to your brother, Alesso." Anna said not looking at him.

"Yeah, I should be going." Alesso managed to give her a smile. "Leo won't be happy seeing us," he muttered under his breath before walking away from her.

"I'm sorry for being rude, Alesso. But it's for the best." She whispered softly to herself. Then she looked forward and saw Leo and Val through the glass, waiting for her outside.

"Val, please don't make this anymore harder." She closed her eyes and sighed deeply. If it wasn't for Val, she would have never come near to Leo.

As she made her way out, she watched Leo playing with Val in his arms and both of them were laughing adorably. A small smile escapes her lips as she watched them.

"Momma is here." Val grinned widely looking at Anna and Leo's expression quickly changed into a frown.

After their lunch, Leo went back to his brothers while Anna took Val to her cabin. Val insisted to stay with Leo but Anna rejected him sternly.

Later in that evening, Roberto's results were out and he was suggested with some medication. Anna visited Roberto for the final check, Alesso was with him and Leo went out to do the paper works for the discharge.

"Your wounds are still fresh. Do the dressing regularly and take the medication on time." She advised him.

"Don't worry, Doc. My mother was a doctor too. She'll do it for me." Roberto said looking at Anna.

"Good. Take care, Mr De Luca." She said formally before leaving the room.

"She has really changed. She became cold." Roberto sighed deeply feeling dejected. "Her brothers must have polluted her mind."

"Nothing is the same as it was five years ago; we are two worlds apart now." Alesso said.

"You realized that too late." Leo entered inside and darted between his bothers. "But glad that you realized anyway."

"Stupid family feud!" Alesso cursed under his breath and glared in space.

"Did you say something?" Leo narrowed his eyes at Alesso and asked.

"Nothing!"

"Let's go then, we've got a flight to catch." Leo said and gestured his brothers to move their lazy asses. Roberto and Alesso nodded at him and straightened up from their place. And as they were about to leave the room, he remembered something. Anna took his gun yesterday night.

"Wait for me downstairs, I'll be right back!" He said to his brothers and strolled out from the room.

"Where are you going?" Alesso asked him behind but he didn't receive any answer.

Leo saw Layla by the reception and strolled towards her.

"Hey!"

"Hello, Mr Handsome."

"May I know where Doctor Anastasia's cabin is?" Leo asked to which Layla gave him a light teasing looked.

"Her cabin is on the first floor, right hallway to the corner." She answered and directed him.

"Thank you." He said before walking away.

"You're welcome, Mr. handsome," She smiled beautifully.

Leo went to the direction like Layla told him and a nameplate was written, 'Anastasia Tessa Harondale' in front of the door. He stared at the nameplate for some seconds before knocking on the door.

"Come in!" he heard her voice from the other side and a small smile escape his lips before he even knew about it. He entered inside and saw Anna busy reading the files on her table. Anna looked up through her lashes and stood up immediately at the sight of him with wide eyes open.

"What are you doing here, Leonardo?" she asked.

"You have something I need!" he answered. "Where's my gun?" he asked looking straight at her.

"I threw it away." She snapped and crossed her arms over her chest and looked up straight in his eyes.

"You dare not!" he moved a step forward and glared her.

"Yes I did!" she said and in an instant, she was dragged and pinned against the wall. She gasped out loud and her eyes wide open when Leo leaned down closer, keeping a centimetre away between their lips.

"I've had enough of you. Let's have a clean farewell and never see each other ever again." Leo leaned down near her ear and whisper-hissed. "Tell me where my gun is and say goodbye." He added with his eyes staring down her lips. As he was milliseconds away from capturing her lips, the loud rings from the telephone echoed and distract them. Anna quickly pushed him away and fetched for the phone.

"Anna, it's time for ward check-up—" Layla reminded her over the phone. "But I guess you're busy with—"

"I'll be there in a minute." Anna cuts her off. She pulled out the first drawer and took his gun out and threw at him. Leo immediately caught it on his hand and stared at her. He was amused but didn't show.

"You're married already?" Leo gulped hard and asked.

"Yes!" Anna lied.

"I don't see your engagement ring on your hand!" he pointed out looking at her hand.

"I don't wear it while at work." She lied again.

"Who is he, your husband?" He asked lowly as he hid his fisted hand behind him. "You're already married and had a son too but your child addressed me as his father. I know that there's not a chance of him being my son because we never—" Leo paused. "What happen to his father?"

"None of your business, now that I gave your gun back! Let's have a clean farewell and never see each other again." She ignored his question and said coldly, repeating his words.

"I asked you a question." He growled and moved closer to her. Anna was once again pinned against the wall. Leo knows that he has to leave at once but his body was not co-operating with him. He was acting before he even knew it.

"I don't want to answer." She glared up at him. But Leo's eyes were busy gazing on her lips. He closed his eyes tightly and sighed deeply in exasperation before straightening up and creating distance between them.

"Whatever!" He growled and left the room at once. Anna stood there glued with the wall and was confused at his action. She let out a shaky long breath she was holding in and stumbled down on her knees. She clutched on her chest as she let her tears rolled freely.

After some moments, she stood on her feet and went to the bathroom. She washed her face and glared at her reflection. She sighed in defeated and strolled out of the bathroom.
