Chapter 21: Timing at its Worst
"What the hell does she think of herself?" The man from earlier muttered in a bad-tempered.
Layla was walking pass the waiting hall and heard the man scowling.
"Wait, till I tell on the director and fire her," The man scowled glancing at his men who were seated beside him.
"She's the director of this hospital," Layla stated and came halted in front of him. She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at the man. The man looked at her in surprise for a second and frowned over.
"Director or not, she has messed with the wrong people," He said looking up at her.
"I beg to differ, Sir," Layla said sharply. "Weren't you guys the one to create a scene?" She pointed out. "Messing with the wrong people!" She scoffed in disbelief, "Piece of advice, don't mess around again in this premises or you're—" She warned them and gestured them a knife-edge hand near her throat. Then she gave them a sickening smile before walking out of the place. The man scoffed in disbelief and glared at her back.
After some hours, Anna and her team walked out from the OT and at an instant, they were surrounded by the men.
"You don't need to worry; he's out of danger now and is stable. We just have to wait for him to gain conscious," Anna informed glancing at each of the men.
"Thank you, Dr." The man said over his shoulder as Anna walked pass by him. She stopped on her track and turned back. She gave them a nod before turning and continued to walk away. She made her way to the washroom and got cleaned. And as she came out from the washroom, she stretched her arms wide open with closed eyes. Then she cracked on her knuckles and rotated her neck in all directions. She sighed in satisfied at the sound of her bones cracking.
"That was not so lady-like," a familiar voice remarked from her sides. Kazimir pulled away from the wall and stood in front of her with a huge grin playing in his face.
"Kazimir," Anna sighed and smiled at him. "People find ways to stay out of hospitals and here, you want to stay while you are healthy enough," She remarked amusedly.
"Taking an excuse from all the paperwork," He shrugged off and said cheekily.
"You're just procrastinating," Anna pointed out and chuckled softly.
"No, my brother is taking care of it while I'm away." He said looking at her.
"I feel pity for your brother," She cooed and he boyishly smiled at her.
"You look tired," He exclaimed after noticing her tired feature.
"Kind of. Just came out from OT," She sighed and slumped her shoulders.
"C'mon, let's grab some coffee," He winked at her and dragged her along with him.
They made their way downstairs and to the cafeteria. Kazimir ordered two coffee and they sat at one corner of the cafeteria.
"Leo knows that I'm here, I told him," Kazimir said as he took a sip of his coffee. "Did you check your phone?" He asked giving her a suspense smile.
Anna shook her head and fetched her phone from her coat pocket. There were two missed calls from Leo.
"I told him that you were in OT," Kazimir informed and grinned widely looking at her.
"Are you spying on me?" Anna narrowed her eyes and gave him an amused smile.
"I would love to," He answered cheekily to which Anna rolled her eyes over and chuckled at him. Then she looked down on her phone and called Leo. The ring went on and on but there was no answer from the other side.
"He must be busy," Anna sighed before pressing on the red button.
"Time is having fun with the both of you," Kazimir said and chuckled softly. "Call him after while or—when you are free." He gave her a knowing smile.
"I'll do that," She smiled at him and glance at her wristwatch. It was time for the presentation. "I need to go now," she said and gave him an apologetic look.
"Alright, I'll see you later, Anna," He smiled at him.
"Alright, bye," She said and walked away.
Anna entered the conference hall and everyone stood from their place and addressed her. She nodded at them and let the presentation start. She sat focused and watched the interns presenting on the research works and experiment. The presentation went on for two hours. All the interns did their best. She praised and encouraged each one of them. She also thanked the doctors for their constant guidance upon their interns and encouraged them to keep continuing the work.
Anna made her way out of the hall along with some doctors and soon sister Leni approached her.
"The patient is awake," Leni informed. Anna courtly nodded at the doctors before walking away along with Leni.
As Anna entered inside the cabin, the patient looked at her and frowned over immediately.
"So I end up getting treated by you," He scowled tiredly, not looking at her.
"You're welcome, Mr Morgan." She said and gave him a tight lip smile which was revealing her cute dimples. She went towards him and check on the IV and all the necessary requirements.
Mr Morgan turned his gaze slowly towards her and for the first time, he noticed how beautiful she was. He was bewitched by her beauty and couldn't stop staring at her. Her dark hair hanging between her chest and shoulder with cute little light bangs on her forehead. Anna turned her gaze towards him only to find him staring at her. He quickly looks away and cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Mr Morgan—" Anna spoke only to be interrupted.
"Call me Dylan," He said with a smile. Anna simply creased her brows at him and ignored him.
"You'll have to stay here for a week and get proper medication, Mr Morgan." She informed, not looking at him.
"No problem, we can get to know each other," He said with a glint of mischief in his eyes. Anna gave him a quick glance and rolled her eyes inwardly. "Can I get your name, Dr.?" He asked to which Anna raised a suspicious eyebrow at him. Then he turned his gaze down to her left chest and read the tiny nameplate, "Anastasia Harondale."
"No wonder why you could beat up all my men," He chuckled softly under his breath before looking up at her. "Your brothers have trained you very well." He stated with a glint of pride in his eyes.
"Another mafia," Anna scowled out loud in annoyance.
"Don't worry; I don't have any bad terms with your bloodline." He said. Anna simply rolled her eyes over and turned away from him.
"Leni, inform the men outside that they can meet their boss," Anna said quietly looking at her. Soon the men entered inside while Anna started to walk away.
"How are you feeling now, Dylan?" The man asked while Dylan's eyes were busy staring at Anna's back.
"I'm fine, Bobby." Dylan drifted his gaze to him and answered tiredly. "Did you guys do anything stupid while I was in here?"
"No," Bobby answered shortly.
"Good, don't mess around. This is Harondale's territory." He warned his men.
"That woman—" Bobby began.
"She's a Harondale." Dylan interrupted.
"Can we trust her with your treatment?" Bobby asked being paranoid.
"Don't worry. There's no bad term between us as of now." Dylan answered with a tad of amusement in his voice.
"We never know when the dies roll," Bobby stated but Dylan simply chuckled at him. Then suddenly Bobby face turned serious and looked at him dreadfully, "We got some bad news, Dylan." He said making Dylan crease his brows in anticipation, "They got Joseph and Cole. The force found their bodies outside of our headquarters—both shot dead on the forehead." He informed. Dylan closed his eyes tightly and clenched his jaw as anger took over him.
"Alert the force to be on vigilant, informed the underboss to stay low until my return," Dylan commanded. Bobby nodded at him and fetched his phone out from his pocket only to be received a call from the underboss himself.
"Your brother's calling, why don't you tell him yourself?" Bobby said and extended his phone towards him.
"Winston," Dylan answered over the call. "I'm alright—(pause)—double the security in every territory and do not do anything stupid until I say—(pause)—don't worry; we'll get to those bastards." He said before hanging up the call.

Kazimir was bored sitting inside his cabin so he decided to walk around and look for Anna. He came out from his cabin and at the same time, his attention caught to the sound of the door sliding from some distance and he looked towards it. He saw some men in black coming out from there and was talking among themselves. And soon his eyes went wide in shock when he recognized Bobby amongst the men. He quickly turned his face and hid from their view. He glared at their back before walking towards the door from where they came out. He saw Morgan's Do lying relaxed on the bed through the square glass of the door. The first thought came in his mind was to let Leo know about it and he quickly dialled on his number but there was no answer from the other side. He dialled again and walked through the hallway. He caught sight of Anna from a distance and made his way towards her. She was getting inside the ward.
"Hello," Leo finally answered from the other side.
He stopped by the door and watched Anna as she checked on the patients.
"Took you long to answer the call," Kazimir smirked.
"How's my girl doing? I saw her missed calls and call back, but she's not answering." Leo sighed.
"Timing at its worst, huh!" Kazimir teased. "She's busy checking on the patients in the ward," He informed walking away from the place. "Gotta tell you something," He came and stopped in an open balcony.
"What is it?"
"Dylan Morgan is admitted here."

Leo waited impatiently and looked at his phone over and over again for the past hours. He had left a text message to Anna informing her to call him as soon as she gets the message. He had told Kazimir to look out for Anna. He couldn't go to her as it will attract only more spectaculars; he'll just make it obvious and risk her life. He doesn't want her life to be in any kind of danger, not when he's a country away from her.
Loud rings from his phone distract him from his reverie and quickly fetched it. A huge grin made its way to his handsome feature as he stared on his phone screen.
"Mio Coure," He sighed in relieved over the phone.
"How are you, Leo?" Her sweet voice filled his ear which he was yearning to hear the whole day.
"Now that I heard your voice, I'm totally fine," Leo said with a boyish smile playing on his lips.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't pick your call on time."
"I'm sorry too,"
"The timing was worst," He heard her sighed tiredly over the call.
"You sound tired," Leo pointed out softly.
"I just got out from the OT. A patient was brought in some hours ago. He got into an accident and was in critical condition—" Anna went on explaining about her operation while Leo simply smiled and listened to her in contentment. Her voice was so soothing to his ears. "The operation was successful but—" suddenly Anna stopped midway and went silent making him straightened up from his bed immediately.
"What happened, Mio coure?" He asked in concern and worry.
"He won't be able to walk anymore," She answered with so much guilt in her voice. "The accident causes a severe damaged to his spinal cord. I couldn't—"
"Shh—" Le shushed her softly. "You did whatever you can and I know you did your best. You save him, Anna. And I know he couldn't be happier than that." He said softly and comforts her.
"I love you, Leo." There was so much longing in her voice.
"I love you too, Mio coure."
They went on talking and talking and got lost track of time. Then suddenly he heard Anna gasping out loud from the other side.
"What happened, Anna?"
"I have to go check on my patient."
"What! It's already past midnight!" Leo exclaimed, glancing at his table clock. "Do you stay up all night?"
"Not every night,"
"Why did you have to become a doctor? It's torturous." Leo said with a tad of amusement in his voice.
"You sound like you've been in my place. I didn't know that you were a doctor too." Anna teased him.
"I've seen it. Momma was a doctor too and she is always busy and spends most of her time in hospitals. Half of her life was spent inside the OT." Leo defended and said.
"That's our life. Hospitals become our second home." Anna chuckled softly.
"I'm going to take you far away from here, especially from hospitals," Leo said and make a note inside his head. He was being serious.
"No, I'm already so much behind my scheduled from the recent vacation," Anna protested.
"I'll kidnap you." Leo teased.
"Whatever!" Anna rolled her eyes over and chuckled at him.
"Did you just whatever me?"Leo jerked an eyebrow but all he could hear was Anna's chuckling from the other side. "Don't test me, honey. I can catch the flight to Germany right now and kidnap you and you won't even know it."
"I doubt and I'm not that easy." Anna challenges him. Leo simply chuckled.
"Anna, it's time." He heard a lady saying on the background.
"In a minute," He heard Anna replying to that lady.
"You should go now," He said softly.
"I'm so sorry," She said quietly.
"By the way, I'm curious to see how you look like inside the OT," Leo said with a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
"Keep the curiosity to yourself," She chuckled softly.
"Goodnight, Mio coure,"
"Goodnight, love."
He stared at his phone for seconds longer before it on the nightstand beside his bed.

A week passed by with the same routine, their busy schedule. But they do talks in the midst of the night. Last two days have been very busy that she didn't even get the time to talk to him neither did Leo called her.
"I hope everything's fine," She sighed softly before going out of her cabin and making her way to the VIP Section. Today was the day that Mr Morgan was finally going to be discharged from the hospital. Anna has had enough of his flirtatious behaviour for the week. Whenever she goes for his check-up, he always tries to hit on her. Since he was her patient for a week, a proper goodbye was a must and that's why she's heading toward his cabin.
"Any news on De Luca?" As she was about to knock on the door, her body froze and stood there silently.
"We got her, our men brought her yesterday. We have locked her in the basement of our mansion." She heard Bobby's saying.
"They're going to pay for what they did to my cousins." Dylan gritted out in anger. "Torture her and rape her, send the clips to those bastards. And make sure that they don't get a clue that she's held captive in Germany. Let them search like dogs in Italy." Anna fisted her hands in anger and quietly walked away from the place.
Anna waited for them at the entrance. Soon Dylan and Bobby appeared from the hallway and were making their way towards her. Dylan smirked at her to which Anna rolled her eyes over.
"You're here to see me off," Dylan said and stood in front of her.
"I'm just doing my duty to see off my patient," Anna said with a straight face.
"Can we go on a date? You know I'm staying here for a while before going to my hometown." Dylan asked her out. Anna moved close to him and did his collar properly and tightened his tie, placing it in a fit.
"No, my husband won't be happy to hear about it and moreover I'm very busy." She rejected him before moving away from him. "Have a safe journey, Mr Morgan." She said dryly before turning away from him.
"She's already married, Dylan. Give up." Bobby said amusedly and jabbed on his chest gently.
"I know she's lying,"
"No, she's not. I saw her son in the afternoon." Bobby said making Dylan to snapped at him.
"What!" Dylan exclaimed in surprised.
"C'mon, let's go." Bobby chuckled at him before getting inside the car.
Anna watched from a distance as they got inside their car and drove off. Then she fetched her phone and informed Layla to free her scheduled for the day. She then scrolled down and dialled on a no.
"Boss," A younger male voice responded from the other side.
"Track on the location,"
"I'm on it, Boss."
Always Smile,
Happy Virus,
