A broken heart could make a person feel one of three things; pain, bitterness or nothing. It seemed to come in stages. Initially the only emotion would be pain. Your entire body hurts, almost like an addict coming off drugs.
After that would come the bitterness, although some people skip that stage. Their bitterness can turn to hate, leaving them unable to love again.
And sometimes people can end up feeling nothing. They've closed off their emotions, refusing to let anyone in.
It was safe to say that Casey was most definitely at stage one. The pain from losing Alec was suffocating him and every time he looked at him he once again realised that he would never be his.
Jace had told him about the arrest of Meliorn, along with the interogation that had taken place. Lydia had executed it and Casey waited by the door as the blonde haired woman left the room.
"Casey, what are you doing here?" Lydia asked. "Meliorn has told us that your sister has the cup."
"Meliorn likes to talk a lot of bullshit." Casey shrugged. "And I'm here to tell you something."
Lydia pursed her lips and walked into the next room, Casey following. The blonde boy sat on the arm of a chair and folded her arms, waiting for Casey to continue.
"I know that you don't love Alec, so don't even try to say you do, because you don't even know him. And I don't know you, but I know that you're only marrying Alec so that you can run the Institute." Casey began, pushing his raven curls back from his eyes.
He knew this was impulsive of him and the implications it could cause, but these words had been bubbling inside Casey like a dormant volcano becoming active once more and preparing to explode.
"You're making a lot of assumptions Fairchild." Lydia remarked and Casey shot him a feral grin momentarily.
"They're facts." Casey corrected. "You see, I don't give a damn whether you love Alec or not, because you have already made the decision to marry him. So you will be a good wife, because I know Alec will be a good husband. You will take care of him and you will not dare look at another man. You will be loyal and kind and you will appreciate Alec's good heart."
Lydia stared at Casey, analysing the boy. Casey returned the stare, determined not to back down. He had done his research on the blonde and found out about her husband's death.
"Why are you saying all this to me?" Lydia asked, genuinely confused for of course she would not be aware of Casey's intimate relationship with Alec.
Casey smiled softly at the woman infront of him and then watched as the blonde woman's facial expression changed at his next words.
"Because Alec is to me what John was to you. The man that I love." The words fell from his mouth almost involuntarily, but he did not regret it. "Alec does not love me, obviously." He added, bitterly. "But I love him all the same."
"I didn't know that you -" Lydia began and Casey knew where she was going with this.
"I'm bisexual." He interupted. "Not that it's really any of your business. But hey ho, I've said my piece. Remember my words."

"Where were you?" Jace asked as Casey descended the steps and stood beside him.
"Just passing on a message." Casey mumbled.
"I'm sorry about you and Alec." Jace told him and hugged the young man. Casey's eyes widened and he went to speak when Jace spoke first.
"Alec is my parabatai Casey, I know him better than he knows himself. I know where his heart is, and it's with you. I want him to be happy, and that happiness lies with you, he'll realise that one day. " He promised him and Casey smiled softly and hugged him tightly.
"I hope so Jace." Casey whispered.
"Where are you taking him?" The voice of Isabelle came from beside Casey as he walked beside them, his eyes on the steps above.
Casey's eyes drifted up to the steps and he watched as Alec and Lydia descended them, Meliorn in handcuffs behind them. Casey's chest felt heavy as Alec's gaze locked on him, before moving down to him and eyeing Jace's arm that was draped around Casey's frail frame. Fury shot through Casey as Alec's jaw tightened. He didn't have the right to react like that. They weren't together anymore, and Jace didn't even like boys that way.
"We're transporting him to the Silent Brothers." Lydia informed a frantic Isabelle. She nodded in acknowledgment to Casey, but the raven haired boy didn't return the gesuture.
"You can't do that." Isabelle objected, as they all continued to walk.
"It's not our decision." Alec drawled, causing him to draw Casey's attention once again. He wanted to hate him, it would make things so much easier. But all he could think about was how beautiful his tousled hair was and how he seemed ten times more attractive with his sleeves rolled up. "The clave made the order. " He continued.
"Well we all know you're the Clave's little bitch." Casey had only meant to mumble it under his breath, but he soon realised that everyone had heard it. Alec frowned, but Casey only shrugged, not retracting the comment. He had given up what they had because of what the clave had thought about his family.
"Are you trying to start a war with the downworlders?" Isabelle exclaimed as they stopped by the elevator. "Meliorn has told you everything he knows."
"You don't know that." Lydia argued.
"I know that you're a bitch." Casey smiled sweetly and Jace snorted.
Lydia's jaw tightened, but that was the only indication that she had heard Casey's comment.
"He could be withholding something. Seelies often move around the truth. If he has information on other attacks it is our responsibility to get it."
At this point Isabelle was clutching a straws, but Casey could see the pain in her eyes. "Let me talk to him."
"That wasn't exactly helpful in the past." Lydia noted.
"Bitch I will slap you." Casey hissed.
"He may not know anything." Jace piped in, gripping Casey's wrist in an attempt to calm him down as he was one hundred percent sure that he would carry through with his threat and indeed punch the clave envoy opposite him. "Alec this has gone to far."
"We don't have a choice." Alec retorted.
"We always have a choice Alec." Casey said. "You just always make the wrong ones."
