Casey paced the room repeatedly, his footsteps light and quick as his feet skimmed the floor. his leather jacket clung to his bare skin, and his raven hair fell into his eyes, forming a curtain between him and any person that had attempted to speak to him in the last hour.

The shadowhunter world was a dangerous one. One where the monsters under beds were real and they didn't wait for night to fall before pouncing on the innocent. Casey didn't worry about himself, he knew how to fight. It had been an instinct since he was knee high. He had went to an academy and had been trained to fight, taught how to use a gun and disarm anyone and everyone.

But Clary hadn't been. While Casey had been at the academy or at his self defence lessons as a child and teenager, Clary had sat in her room or out in the garden drawing anything that caught her attention, pouring her imagination out on page after page.

The shadowhunter world was one that Clary had never experienced, and although neither had Casey he at least knew not to hesitate, to just hit his target: aim for the jugular or heart. Clary didn't, she had always been innocent and sensitive. Casey didn't want to take those things away from her, but he had no choice in it.

And Simon - sweet, beautiful and caring Simon Lewis had got stuck in the middle of it. All because he was involved with the Fray siblings. Casey had noticed something different about Simon, he just couldn't put his finger on what it was. He had snapped at Jace that morning and practically snarled at Casey when he defended the blonde.

To make matters worse they had been attacked by members of the circle when they had attempted to lure out the High Warlock known as Magnus Bane. This resulted in him having to transport them to a safe house, along with greeting Casey like he was an old friend. Another person that he had known in a life that was no longer his.

And now they were preparing to summon the demon that Magnus had fed Clary's memories to. Casey felt slightly nauseous and he worried that something would go wrong.

The boy jumped slightly as he felt a hand on his shoulder, but he immediately relaxed when he found himself staring into a pair of hazel eyes. Casey had never really said it to anyone, but he had feelings for Alec. He had had many men attracted to him, and although he had had relations with them, any feelings that they had for him was always unrequited. Casey had never been in love before and honestly the concept of it had always frightened him slightly.

Casey had always been a little bit off with certain people and it had taken years for him to warm up to Luke, to trust him. Clary was different, Casey had always felt an obligation towards his little sister, he felt as though he had to protect her and the love was intertwined with that feeling. Initially Casey had completely ignored Simon - not in a rude way, he just didn't know whether he could trust him. Of course now Casey adored Simon, he was like his little brother and he would gladly lay his life down for him.

It wasn't that Casey was some dark and lonely person who sat in pitch black rooms, brooding all day. He smiled, laughed and chatted with anyone and everyone. It was just that he understood how a person could feel lonely when in a crowd.

But since he had been told the truth, since he had found out what he really was, things seemed different. He felt an unexplainable tether to Isabelle and Jace, as though they were family of sorts, or friends at the very least. And in a way they were, they were all Raziel's children, they all had angel blood flowing through their veins.

And then there was Alec. From the very moment Casey had laid eyes on him, when he had listened to him stutter and watched him blush, he knew he was different. Unlike other men he had been with, he didn't have a bad boy façade. He didn't know that he was beautiful, or think himself superior to others. For the longest time he had tried to deny his feelings toward him, his life was complicated enough without falling in love. But there was no denying how his skin burned when he touched him, how his cheeks became rosy when he spoke to him and how he felt like a giddy school child when he held his hand.

Casey Fray was falling for Alec Lightwood and that scared him slightly.

He blinked rapidly, realising that Alec was still staring at him, waiting for him to reply to something that he must have previously said.

"I'm sorry, what?" Casey spoke, fully aware that Alec's hand was still on his arm. Alec smiled softly and dropped his hand, allowing it to fall back to his side, leaving Casey longing for his touch again.

"I said, Magnus is waiting for you so he can start." Alec repeated and Casey nodded, breathing shakily.

"You okay?" Alec asked, his hazel eyes narrowing as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Fine." Casey lied, dropping his eyes to his black shoes, unable to focus on Alec intoxicating stare. Not believing him, Alec reached up and placed his hand under his chin, tilting his head up so that he was forced to look at him. His touch was soft and gentle, as if Casey were a porcelain doll.

"Casey don't lie to me." He said firmly and yet softly at the same time. "What's wrong?"

"I'm scared." Casey admitted. "Everything is falling apart around me. Simon has changed and Clary is being forced to become an adult too fast. My mum has been kidnapped by my psychotic father who is apparently hell bent on taking me."

"I can't say that I understand what you're going through, because I don't. But what I can say is that no matter what happens, I'll be by your side." He told him.

Throughout this, the space between the two of them seemed to become smaller, their lips only millimetres apart. Casey's heart was beating a million miles an hour. He wanted him to kiss him, he wanted to feel his lips against his.

"Do you promise?" Casey managed to say even though he felt as though all the oxygen in the room had disappeared.

"I promise." He said as he closed the space between them.

His lips met Casey's in a flurry of passion and trust and with the seal of a promise. He reached up and cupped his cheek as Casey wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him closer. The two kissed as though they had no need for oxygen and instead used each other to breath. It was what both of them had longed for, craved for and had needed for so long.

The world was a ridiculous and harmful place. It could tear you down, stamp on you and drag you through the dirt. But Casey Fray and Alec Lightwood would be there to build each other back up again and again.
