Chapter 19
It's the night of the Blood Dance.
With my three piece suit I head to Catherine's dorm.
I knock, the sound hollow like my ribcage as my heart implodes upon itself from the inside.
The seconds of silently waiting peels the nerves from my flesh. I shouldn't be this nervous.
It's not like she's going to change her mind last minute. Or so I hope.
As the door opens my eyes catch the sight of her surreal dress, wrapped around her body like gift ready to be opened, accentuating her thin waist.
My jaw detaches from itself in awe, brain scrambled as I try to think of words to see.
"I don't look that bad do I?" She asks.
"Bad? You're the most beautiful girl I've seen."
She blushes with my response, cheeks lit pink as she speaks out. "Well, you don't have to go that far.
With her exit I had her a corsage from my sweaty hands, scarlet, matching her ocean dress.
"Ok I think you've gone to far with this." She says as I place it over her wrist.
"Then it's a good thing I didn't come with flowers and a box of chocolates."

From the dorms we head to the hall, eyes scan the two of us from afar as we walk past.
How reminiscent.
"Are you going to be ok?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well I know you're not really into this kind of thing."
"I'll be fine. What's one night constantly second guessing myself right?"
She looks at me with her big round eyes, pupils looked to mine. "There'll be no second guessing tonight, I'll make sure this is a night you'll never forget."
"If you say so."
We arrive at the hall, standing just in front of the entrance as people walk in. Wolfs, walk in packs with pumped up energy and excitement.
I should be happy.
"You sure you're gonna be ok? Aren't you going to wolf out tonight?" Catherine asks me.
I look back to stare at the moon, a large red dot marking the black sky.
"...... No. I don't think I will."
"Well then c'mon." Catherine grabs my hands as she treads towards the entrance with excitement.
I should be happy.
I'm at the dance, with a girl, a really pretty one no less.
Yet, I still feels this emptiness inside, and underlying sadness masked by my compelling feelings with Catherine.
Willow. I had really got over the fallout we had. Maybe that's why, or maybe it's because I'm still unsure about Catherine and me.....
No, not today. I've spent to much time building towards this moment to have any second guesses.
With that being said I follow Catherine in, our arms wrapped around each other like snakes in heat.
From there we slip into the dance floor. Music leaving the people entrances around us as we begin to dance.
I've never thought that the day would actually come we I would dance. In front of a swarm of people no less.
With the upbeat music and flickering lights we jump up and down to the tune. The synchronised step sounding like quakes from the ground.
•••
Later through the night the music changes to from upbeat and out of control to soft and sweet.
Catherine gently takes my hand and places it on her hips, placing it firmly before tieing her arms around my shoulders.
"This is really nice." Catherine says before placing her head onto my chest.
"Yeah."
As Catherine's head moves I notice her from the other side of the room. Willow........ With Samuel?
Perplexed I stare, and our eyes meet for a second, the connecting quickly burning out like a lot match before I pull away from Catherine.
"Where're you going?"
"Um, I'll be right back. Just gotta go to the bathroom real quick."
I then quickly slither through the packed crowd before breaking free at the balcony.
The slow breeze rubbing on my skin as I look up to the sky.
She's actually here. But why?
"Hey."
I know that voice. I turn my head slowly back to find Willow standing behind me. "Hey?"
"What? Looks like you've seen a ghost or something."
"You're here. Why?"
"Just thought I'd get some fresh air.
"I mean to the dance. And with Samuel? I thought you wanted nothing to do with him, or me for that matter."
"Well let's just s......."
Before finishing her sentence loud bang echoes from the hall.
What could that be?
