Part 6: When Two Worlds Collide

"I can't live like this anymore. I've had enough now!"

He raised his brows half amused at her. Another of her endless dramas?

Arnav - What's the matter?

Khushi - This!

She said pointing to the beer bottle in his hand and the non vegetarian pizza he was eating while watching news.

Khushi - Why did you bring a pizza? And that too non veg. I had informed you I'll make lauki ki sabzi in dinner.

Arnav - I'm really not in mood for lauki ki sabzi.

Khushi - Then why did you tell me to cook whatever I want in dinner when I asked you in the morning?

Arnav - I didn't know you'd make lauki ki sabzi.

She kept her hands on her hips now annoyed by his behaviour.

Khushi - Arnavji, we're not in Shantivan where Prakash brothers will make three to four items in dinner. One dish is enough for us both and if you say cook whatever you want, then you'll have to eat whatever I cook! What do I do with the rest now?

Arnav - I don't know, throw it away but stop getting on my nerves.

Khushi - Since when have you become a serial drinker and non veg eater? I'm seeing that here you drink every day and eat non veg more often. Filled our fridge with so much beer and meat. You never did that in Delhi!

Arnav -That's because Nani and Di strongly opposed it. But here, no Nani and Di, so!

Khushi - So what? I don't like you drinking and eating non veg everyday. I won't allow it anymore.

He raised his brows at her.

Arnav - You won't allow? Yeah right!

Khushi - I'm not joking! You forgot my rule? No kissing or touching me after drinking or eating meat.

Arnav - Khushi, I had a hectic day at office. Stop getting on my nerves and let me watch news in peace.

She looked at him in disbelief and went to sleep.

"Khushiiii, where is my navy blue shirt?"

Standing in a towel wrapped around his hips, he'd been searching through the whole cupboard and somehow was sure he had more clothes than in the cupboard present. Khushi just came into the bedroom after being done making breakfast.

Arnav - Why is the cupboard so empty? Where are my clothes?

She thinned her lips looking down and walked to the cupboard not looking at him.

Khushi - There are so many shirts, why don't you wear one of these here?

Arnav - But where is that shirt?

Khushi - It must be here somewhere only. Why do you want to wear that only? Wear anything! You look hot in everything!

She blushed to which he raised his brows. Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada flirting with him so suddenly means something is wrong.

Arnav - No. I want to wear that shirt only! Where is it?

Khushi - Offo Arnavji, sometimes you really act like a child. The shirt is in laundry, wear something else.

Arnav - Laundry? As per I remember, last time I wore it was the day we came here to London. Why is it still in laundry?

She looked here and there biting her lower lip. He but smirked understanding it.

Arnav - So Khushi Kumari Gupta doesn't know how to operate the washing machine, isn't it?

She looked up at him now and folded her arms on her chest looking away.

Arnav - And you didn't ask me for help because I had offered you to teach you about everything which you had denied so proudly because Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada can do everything on her own!

Khushi - Fine. But I'm not at fault. Back in Lucknow and Laxmi Nagar, we used to wash clothes with hands and in Shantivan, the Prakash brothers handled everything. That washing machine had so many signs, buttons and then some lights, I couldn't understand them. But I knew, if I ask you, you'll tease me.

Arnav - Seriously? You've got some nerve to tell me I act like a child! Come with me now, I'll show you.

* * *

"Come out Arnavji! What's taking you so long?"

She knocked on the door now for the upteenth time. Couldn't he understand it was an emergency?

Khushi - Please come out now.

Finally the noise of the shower stopped and she expected him to open the door anytime. Instead he barked from inside.

Arnav - You are unbelievable. Why don't you use the other bathroom?

Khushi - Because I need something which is in the cupboard of this bathroom only!

He opened the door in a minute with water dropping from his hair and a towel wrapped around his waist. She pressed her lips together at his vicious glare.

Arnav - Can't I even take a shower anymore without being disturbed by you? Is that too much to ask?

Khushi - It's not my fault. Some of my necessities are inside. Can't you understand this less?

Arnav - You just enjoy getting on my nerves, don't you?

Khushi - As if I don't have anything else to do!?

Arnav - Khushi, you-

Khushi - Hatiye! Let me go in.

She pushed him aside flaring her nose and went in closing the door behind.

"Aachoo!"

He sneezed again as he collected newspaper from the coffee table. Khushi stopped rolling the roti and looked at him from the open kitchen.

Khushi - Arnavji, are you alright? You've been sneezing since yesterday.

He looked around actually baffled as somehow he's only been sneezing at home. Everything was perfect at office and that hinted to one thing. He rubbed his finger pad on the table.

Arnav - Aachoo!

After staring onto his finger for few seconds, he turned his gaze towards his wife cooking in the open kitchen.

Arnav - When did you last clean the house?

Khushi - I do vacuuming and mobbing everyday of course.

Arnav - And dusting?

She looked at him now turning the electric stove off and thinned her lips.

Arnav - You know i'm allergic to dust Khushi!

Khushi - Woh...it's all your fault!

He raised his brows now approaching her who was setting the dining table.

Arnav - My fault? How is it my fault if you're so lazy?

Khushi - Of course it is your fault! Back at home, you never let me do any household work saying if the house ladies were to do all work only, then why pay all the servants? You always tied my hands and I never did anything except of cooking occasionally. Since five years I hadn't even touched a broom or mob anymore. And because of whom? Because of you! You indirectly made me lazy!

Arnav - *shouting* Stop with your nonsense! *sneezes* I wanted to hire a household help but you only denied saying you'll manage. It's not much to do.

Khushi - Yes, of course I denied. I don't want everyone to think i'm lazy and need a maid for so less work? This house is not that big.

Arnav - What the fuck Khushi! Have you completely lost it?

He was really irritated right now. Already he was in so much work stress and now she can't stop but just keep annoying him with her unbearable extremely idiotic behaviour.

Arnav - There's no doubt about you being a mad but sometimes you reach heights. *sneeze* Neither you'll let me hire a maid, nor you yourself will do anything.

Khushi - Ok fine! I'll do dusting and full house cleaning! Now be happy!

She almost banged the plate of breakfast she'd prepared for him on the table. But he just turned to grab his coat and laptop and left in anger without eating.

* * *

"What do you think are you doing?"

She turned her face to the side to see her husband who had snaked his arms her waist and got himself busy with nuzzling into her neck.

Arnav - I just wanna love my wife.

Khushi - The same wife you yelled at in the morning, had a huge fight with?

She jerked her shoulders and leaving the clothes she had been folding on the couch, she turned pushing him away.

Khushi - Really? After fighting with me unnecessarily in the morning?

Arnav - Unnecessarily?

Khushi - What else? My full yesterday I spent cleaning the full house for you, for your allergy and yet you had the guts to fight with me in the morning again because-

Arnav - Because you threw away important pages of my files! Not only you rearranged all my things and files making it difficult for me to find everything, you also added onto my work by throwing away important contracts and files.

Khushi - How was I supposed to know that they were important? Your desk was so littered, I just wanted to help you by cleaning your study.

Arnav - Forget it now! We already fought over it in the morning.

Khushi - And I am fed up! Nowadays you've just been fighting with me. You remember the last time we actually had a normal conversation without shouting and getting angry?

She switched off the TV and walked uptairs to the bedroom holding the pile of clothes she just folded.

Arnav - Khushi, I don't enjoy our fights either. And that's why I've decided to hire a help and I won't argue over it with you.

She nodded in denial at him in disbelief. He just won't understand anything. Sliding the cupboard door shut, she made her way to bed.

Khushi - You do whatever you want. I don't care anymore.

He got into the bed next to her and turned her to face him though she struggled. Taking her into his arms, he pulled her chin up.

Arnav - Then what do I do Khushi? Most of our fights have been due to some undone chores or...not done properly ones.

Khushi - You only see what I don't do but did you even acknowledge all those things I do? I cook for you, I clean the house, I do your laundry.

She looked right into his eyes for him to notice she was hurt, her eyes were wet.

Khushi - Do you notice how every morning your coffee and breakfast are served sharp at 9 because I know you have to leave for office after eating, how all your clothes are always washed, pressed and kept back in cupboard after you throw them in the dirty laundry? Yes, that day your shirts were pink instead of white but it wasn't my fault, you didn't tell me that I have to wash white clothes separately!

She continued and he let her. He let her speak up because he knew, else their fights will never resolve.

Khushi - And you noticed that I didn't do dusting but did you notice how clean and tidy the kitchen and bathroom always look? How new and fresh the carpet always looks? Or how your plants are always watered and taken care of when you don't find the time to do so? You scolded me because I accidentally threw some of your files away but did you even for once praised me because your study is all organized now? Did you even once thanked me for I brushed the dust off from every little corner of the house and even cleaned all the windows? No. You came back home, took a beer, watched news, had dinner and slept. I felt so bad and taken for granted.

She was crying by now and it wasn't only her tears that pricked her heart but her words too as he realized he'd been really behaving like an ass. Back in Delhi, whenever he was too stressed and tired, the servants would get to feel it. He would shout leaving all his frustration out them. And that's what he'd been doing here with Khushi, he understood now and felt like a douchebag.

Arnav - I'm so sorry Khushi. I had no idea that I was behaving like a jerk. I won't do that henceforth. Please forgive me.

He kissed her tears off her cheeks and met her forehead with his, asking for forgiveness. She kept her hand on his cupping her face.

Khushi - You mean it? You aren't apologizing to actually just keep the matter aside and have what you want?

Arnav - Sex is temporary pleasure, your smile and happiness are permanent. I love you, please forgive me.

Overwhelmed by his words, she hugged him him tight coming on him. He smiled a bit now finally embracing her in his arms and places a soft kiss on her hair.
