Part 11: A Bitter Surprise
"Haan Amma, I'm missing you all too. But what do I do, am stuck with this Laad Governor."
She giggled teasingly as they both exchanged looks.
Khushi - Amma, why are you always praising and talking in favour of this man? I am your daughter, you should always just agree when I complain about him.
Arnav - Excuse me? What do you have to complain about me?
Khushi - Shut up Laad Governor and have your breakfast quietly! Am talking to my Amma, don't disturb.
She stuck out her tongue like a child earning a glare from him.
Khushi - Amma, please. Don't you start with your lecture on how to talk to your husband in a respectful manner. Where's Babuji?
She twisted her nose in response to his smirk. He continued having roti with bhindi sabzi his wife made so lovingly for him.
Arnav -Listen to your Amma and be a good wife. Anyway, give me the phone. I want to talk to Babuji.
Khushi - Why? Any work? Tell me, I'll tell whatever you want to say.
Arnav - Shut up and give me the phone.
She passed it to him not so happily and kept staring him with crushed brows as he talked to Babuji.
Shashi - Khushi bitiya isn't troubling you much I hope.
Arnav - No Babuji, she's just being crazy as usual. Nothing new. Anyway, how are you? And how is the shop going?
Khushi - Ah! There you go. I knew it, typical businessman. Asking about shop.
Shashi - I am fine and the shop is going well Bitua. The website you got made does its job well and many people have started ordering online.
Arnav - That's great. But I had told you to never hesitate at calling Mohan for deliveries. But you didn't so. Why?
Shashi - You've already done so much for me Bitua. First arranged for my therapy at city's best physiotherapy and paid for my treatment, then opened this big shop for me here. I will never be able to payback your favors.
Arnav - On the one side you call me your son and on the other side call everything I do for you a favour. Had I been your son, would you have done So!? I don't just call you Babuji in vain, I consider you the same.
Khushi stared him overwhelmed with joy. She could never thank DM enough for having this man in her life. Not because he did so much for her parents but for he really considered them family and has always been proving it with actions like such.
Arnav -And am doing all this for my own selfishness. I don't want you to leave Delhi and go back to Lucknow. When we're back in Delhi, Khushi will continue packing and going to Laxmi Nagar after a fight. And I don't want that to become difficult for her. After all it's the only time I get some peace.
Both Arnav and Shashi while Khushi fumed showing him eyes.
Khushi - Hum aapko dekh lenge!
She kicked him under the table. He stopped laughing and grinned getting an idea.
Arnav - Ji Babuji. Ok... Btw Bubuji, I have a complaint about your daughter. She's been denying me in bed since past two weeks and-
Her eyes widened in utter shock as he shamelessly spoke it out loud. She snatched the phone from him gasping.
Khushi - No Babuji, he's gone nuts. Don't listen to him, he-
She frowned as there was no response on the other side and looked at the phone distancing it from her ear. The call was disconnected since a minute.
Khushi - What the! You fooled me!
* * *
"Are you coming home for lunch today?"
She made him wear the coat and closed her eyes as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead after nodding.
Khushi - I'll make Rajma chawal then and your favorite Karele ki sabzi too.
Arnav - Ok.
He noticed her eyes followed him attentively as he collected his wallet and keys before grabbing his laptop bag to leave.
Arnav - What happened? What are you looking at?
Khushi - Nothing.
She smiled nodding in denial and walked him down to bid bye and threw her arms around his torso just as he was to leave.
Arnav - Khush? Is something wrong?
Khushi - No, just. I love you so much. How will I ever be able to pay you back for everything you do for my family!?
She pulled back looking up at him. He frowned holding her in his arms.a
Arnav - They are as much my family as yours! So stop dreaming.
She smiled and pecked his lips standing on her toes.
Arnav - But if you are so keen on doing something for me because I'm such a good son to our family, then, well I won't deny a pleasant surprise. You know what I like!
He winked grinning and left from there leaving Khushi to ponder. Surprise?
Khushi - Okay then, Laad Governor. I'll give such a surprise which you'll never be able to forget.
* * *
"What the hell...!"
All the way he had been imagining how Khushi could be surprising him. Maybe she'll open the door in a lingerie or some red sexy Sari or maybe in no clothes at all. His excitement had been rising with each passing minute as he drove through the streets of London to reach home soon. But this was certainly not one of them. He had even taken into consideration that she may not surprise him now and rather in the evening. Yet, this not just overdid his imagination but also crushed his hopes of getting cosy with her.
"Welcome home Swamiji."
He felt glued to the floor staring at her astonishment, confusion, a little bit in shock and surprise. Not to forget disappointment.
"Swamiji, please come in."
Khushi straightened herself after touching his feet though he took a step back denying. Dressed in a yellow Sari and her head covered with a pallu, she stepped aside holding the aarti thaal.
Arnav entered finally coming out of shock and frowned at the green trails on the floor. Were that...?
Arnav - Is this-
Khushi - Ji, woh aapko Karele bahut pasand hai na! Toh...
Arnav - So you created path trails with them!?
She nodded thinning her lips with her head bowed all time and covered under the veil. It irked him.He was confused whether to shout at her for annoying him like this or ignore and let her be considering it another of her usual madness attacks.
Khushi - Swamiji, I request you to go get fresh and come fast. Lunch is ready.
She removed his coat and hung inside the wardrobe beside the door.
He gave her a look and went up quietly following the Bitter Gourds.
* * *
"KHUSHI!"
She entered their bedroom just then to ear a deadly glare from him. But that didn't stop her from keeping her smile up while walking to him.
Khushi - Swamiji, you called me!?
Arnav - What. the. hell. is this?
He was burning as he pointed towards the heart shape made out of bitter gourds.
Arnav - Don't you think it's getting too much!?
Khushi - But Swami-
Arnav - Stop calling me Swami! Get back to Laad Governor and remove this ghunghat. Right now!
Khushi - Shama kijiye Swamiji, but I can't remove my ghunghat. I want to be an ideal wife to you. You are my God, I respect you too much to-
Arnav - Oh shut up! I've had enough. I'll eat and leave.
She nodded innocently and turned around as he flared his nose. But smirking, she turned again with her head bowed down.
Khushi - Come fast, I've cooked so much, all for you. Daas Karela, Bharwan Karela, Khatta Meetha Karela, Karela Biryani and Karela Halwa for dessert.
That's it! He isn't staying any longer. Everything he wanted was spend some quality time with her without any drama. He can't deal with her madness for now so walked out and down. She frowned and followed him.
Khushi - Swamiji, where are you going? What about lunch-
Arnav - I'm going back. I'll eat at office only.
She grabbed his wrist stopping him from opening the door. He passed her a not so lovably look.
Khushi - Why? You wanted me to listen to Amma and respect you, am doing that. You wanted a surprise. And I know like Karelas so-
Arnav - Wait! You're doing all of this just to give it back to me for I said that? Don't ever listen to your Amma and be a good wife. I'm perfectly happy with you being a normal crazy wife. This is too much. Call me Laad Governor, but stop with Swami.
She removed her veil now and smirked keeping her hands on the hips.
Khushi - So how did you like my surprise?
Arnav - Horrible. Don't surprise me ever again.
Khushi - But you were surprised right?
Arnav - I officially hate Karela from now on. And yellow even more.
She giggled and put her arms around his neck pulling him closer. Yellow was his official turn off color and she knew he'd be expecting her to be wearing red, so she just couldn't help but do the opposite.
Khushi - Then let me tell my Laad Governor, I've made Rajma Chawal, just one Karela sabzi and sugarless Kheer for dessert.
Arnav - So you didn't make all those dishes?
Khushi - Of course not. I don't want to become bitter like you na.
Arnav - Excuse me?
She just giggled and nodded in denial pulling him towards the dining area to have lunch together.
Arnav - No, no, no. Lunch can wait, I need something else first.
Khushi was not that naive anymore to not know what he meant but still asked innocently.
Khushi - What? Your medicine? That you take in the evening na!
He rolled his eyes as she bit back a giggle. He just scooped her into his arms and walked up towards the bedroom.
Arnav - I need you, right now!
He smirked as she swam in the air but eventually gave in with a pout as he kept her on the bed and their lips locked with each others.
