Lollie Parker

Lollie shut her locker and sighed.

She turned around and faced Farkle.

"Hi!" He smiled.

"Hey?"

"Um, since you're new and everything I was wondering if I could have a dance with you at the dance. Please?"

Lollie raised her eyebrow, "You don't have to! I'm not going to trick you into doing so." Farkle said.

"Farkle Minkus, is that right?" Lollie questioned.

He nodded.

Lollie rested her hands on his shoulder.

"I would like to dance with you at the dance."

He smiled.

"Okay." He said, "That's great. I'll see you in class."

Lollie nodded and watched him walk away, his bowl cut bouncing with him.

Lollie entered Mr. Matthews's class as he handed her a paper with a, "A" on it.

"Parker."

Riley stood behind Lollie and Mr. Matthews handed her a paper, "You."

"Dad, I-" She started.

She stopped herself as he began making hand gestures.

"Okay." She said and sat down.

"Well, guys. I've got your test results on Darwin to give back to you, and uh, I'm pleased to see some of you have "evolved" since the last quiz." Mr. Matthews said trying to make a joke.

"Ha!" Farkle said loudly.

"Thanks, Farkle." He said.

"Well, you were drowning, sir." He said.

Lollie looked back at Lucas, "Do you think he's okay?"

"Most likely not."

"Ms. Hart, Mr. Friar. Nice work." He said passing back papers.

"Ms. Parker. Good as always."

She flipped the test over and it revealed an, "A"

"A number 700. Huzzah!" Farkle said.

"You." He said giving Riley her paper.

"You okay?" Riley asked Maya.

"He gave me an, "F"." Maya said.

"That's nuts, you're a solid, "D" student." Riley gasped.

"Mr. Friar, I took particular note of your position that evolution does not preclude the existence of... How did you put it?" Mr. Matthews asked.

"A guiding hand that has your best interest at heart." Lucas said.

"Lollie, reading yours was also very inspiring, to say the least. Would you read the highlighted area?"

She sighed and read, ""If you try, the hand that holds you, you will continue to do its best to guide you.""

Maya raised her hand.

"Yes, Ms. Hart?"

"You failed me." She said.

"Why don't we talk about this after class?" He asked.

"What's there to talk about? You failed us. You think we are a failure." She continued, "There's nothing more for you to teach us."

Maya stood at the door with her test in her hands.

"Oh, come on, both of you gotta say that?" He asked.

He looked distressed.

"What, you mean I lost you both? Maya!" He shouted.

Maya looked up at him.

"You do not walk out of here."

Maya was already out the door.

Mr. Matthews looked at his class and sighed.

Oh, how wonderful teaching was.
﹏﹏﹏﹏

Lollie, Noah, and Mariah all sat at the dining room table doing homework as their grandma watched a telenovela.

Bailey and Finn walked through the front door and looked around the room.

A pretty average night for them, at least they weren't arguing over the last smoothie.

The two adults walked past Fran. It wouldn't have mattered if they spoke or not. She was so captivated by the show she wouldn't have responded.

"Hey." Bailey smiled.

The three kids sent her a wave.

The thing about the Parker siblings was even though they didn't all grow up with each other, they had a lot more in common than they would like to admit.

They cared a lot about their grades even middle school ones that didn't count.

They were a pretty smart group of kids and would probably be smarter if they asked for help.

"So, Cory told me about the dance." Finn said.

Lollie quickly looked up and him and back down at her work.

"He said there was going to be a father-daughter dance."

She didn't look at him this time.

"We're you planning on going?"

"To dance with Farkle and leave."

"So you have a date?" Noah asked, "Lollie's got a boyfriend."

Lollie sat up and punched him in the arm.

"He's just a person who wanted one dance with me. It's not that serious."

"Tell that to my flimsy arm."

Finn sighed, "Anyways... since you're already going to be there we might as well do the father-daughter dance, right?"

Lollie loved Finn with all her heart, but if you took the two and sat them side by side, you could tell that wasn't her father.

Maya already dug ditches into the girl, she didn't want her to even think about saying something about her family life now.

It would have been completely different if Finn wasn't in Lollie's life.

Her mother probably would let her dance with Farkle like she said and let her go home.

"So? What do you say, Lollie?" Finn asked.

"Um, I think it's best if we'd skipped out on it. Thanks for offering though."

Lollie hastily packed her bag and went upstairs to her room.

"It's okay." Finn said, "The dance is in a few days. Maybe she'll change her mind."
﹏﹏﹏﹏

She didn't change her mind as quickly as Finn would've liked.

The Parker family all sat and ate breakfast as normal.

As normal as normal could be when no one was really in the talking mood.

Finn didn't bother asking Lollie about the dance anymore.

In his mind, it was pretty evident that Lollie didn't want to go to the dance with him.

It became dark outside and Lollie sat at her bay window reading a book before the dance.

She heard someone knock on the door, "Come in."

Bailey peaked her head inside, "Don't you have a dance to go to?"

"Can I ask you something?" Lollie asked.

Bailey nodded and shut the door behind her. She made her way to Lollie and sat beside her.

"What's up?"

"Is Finn mad at me?"

Bailey sighed, "Lollie, sweetie. This is your first father-daughter dance since you were five. He not mad at you, he's not even upset with you. He just really wanted to dance you again."

Lollie sighed and ran her hand over her face.

"I know, it's just... I know what people are gonna say."

"Is it people or a person?"

"A person."

"Well... tell me how you feel about, Finn."

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean."

Lollie sighed, "I love Finn, I really do... it's just... I don't want people to look at him like he's not my dad."

"Who cares?" Bailey asked, "So what... you have a stepdad. If someone is going to make fun of you for that... they have no life."

Lollie smiled and ran her hands through her hair.

"I'll talk to him." She said.

"Good. He's at the dance."

"He went?"

"Lollie, out of everyone in this house, Finn knows you like the back of his hand. Go have fun."
﹏﹏﹏﹏

Lollie walked into the dance, either people were chatting with friends or dancing with their friends. Lollie had yet to make said friends and sat at an empty table.

As soon as she sat in her seat Farkle sat in front of her.

"Hello."

She smiled, "Hi, Farkle."

"I thought you bailed, but your dad said you were coming."

"You saw my dad?"

"Yeah. Nice guy. Ready to dance?"

He jumped out of his seat and held his hand out.

She took his hand and he pulled her in close as an upbeat song began to play.

"You know how to tango?"

Lollie quickly shook her head, "No."

"Well... I'm about to teach you."

Farkle definitely got his dance with Lollie. A couple of them actually.

The two of them sat down, "Thanks for the dance, Farkle."

"No problem."

"Well, guys, it looks like the night is winding down." Mr. Matthews spoke in the microphone, "We hope you all enjoyed the dance. But before we go, I notice some fathers have arrived to pick up their daughters. I wonder if we might have one last dance. A Father-Daughter dance."

Finn walked back inside the dance as he held his phone in his hands.

He saw Lollie and Farkle sitting with each other.

Lollie looked back towards the door and saw him.

She excused herself from Farkle and made her way towards Finn.

"So," She started, "Heard about the father-daughter dance?"

Finn smiled, "Yes. Yes, I have."

She held her hand out, "Good... Would you like to dance?"

Instead of taking her hand, he pulled her into a hug.

"I'm sorry." She muttered.

"It's okay, Lollie. It's okay."
