Chapter 12: Going Over the Mission
Loki, Jamie, Mobius, and the Minutemen regrouped to go over what happened.
"C-20 and her team went dark shortly after they jumped into the 1985 branch. All signs point to another ambush. We've grabbed enough temporal aura to know it's our Loki Variant. But which kind of Loki, remains unknown," the female hunter, B-15, informed.
"They're the lesser kind, to be clear," Loki clarified as Jamie nodded.
B-15 sighed then said, "Let me see the back of that jackets."
Loki and Jamie looked at the backs of their jackets, his saying "Variant" and hers saying "Time Jumper". The Minutemen snickered at this.
"Hmm. Very subtle. Well done," Loki remarked.
"Yeah. Real classy," Jamie snapped.
"I don't want anybody out there to forget what you are," B-15 said.
"Oh, your only hope of capturing a murderer?" Loki asked.
"No. A cosmic mistake," B-15 replied.
"That's enough," Mobius told them.
"Lovely," Loki nodded.
In response, Jamie put a gentle hand on his arm, making him calm down.
"Here's the deal. When we get out on the branch, we're not just looking for a Time Criminal. We're looking for a Loki. A variation of this guy. A type we should all be very familiar with, because the TVA has pruned a lotta these guys, almost more than any other Variant. And no two are alike. Slight differences in appearances, or not so slight. Different powers, although, powers, generally include shape-shifting, illusion-projection, and my favorite..." Mobius explained as he showed different versions of Loki.
"Duplication-casting," Loki chimed in.
"Illusion-projection," Mobius corrected.
"No, they're two completely different powers," Loki remarked.
"How?" Mobius asked.
"Illusion-projection involves depicting a detailed image from outside oneself, which is perceptible in the external world, whereas duplication-casting entails recreating an exact facsimile of one's own body in its present circumstance, which acts as a true holographic mirror of its molecular structure. But you already knew that. Right?" Loki explained.
They all looked at Jamie.
"Illusion-projection means they aren't really there. Duplication-casting makes it convincing like they really are there," she clarified.
Loki gestured to her to say she was the only smart one there besides him.
"Okay, take a breath. Noted. We're gonna break into two teams, including myself, Professor Loki, and his teaching assistant, Jamie," Mobius replied.
"Why?" B-15 asked.
"Because whoever this Variant is, we haven't been able to find him. So let's bring in an expert," Mobius answered.
"That's me," Loki smirked.
"And the expert who knows how to time jump," Mobius added.
"And that would be me," Jamie acknowledged.
Once the briefing was done, Loki, Jamie, and Mobius made their way to the portals.
"Do we get weapons?" Loki asked.
"Nah. If the TVA doesn't feel comfortable with giving my time-jumping sister a weapon, they're definitely not gonna give you one," Mobius told him.
"Thanks a lot," Jamie muttered.
"Well, I'll have my magic back. Is no one concerned about that?" Loki wondered.
"Of what?" Mobius wondered.
"Me betraying you," Loki clarified.
"Or me doing that," Jamie added.
"No," Mobius shook his head.
"Why not?" Loki and Jamie asked.
"You know that we can catch you. And how's betraying us gonna get you any closer to the Time-Keepers or you out to live your own lives at of the TVA?" Mobius pointed out.
The two were now in shock.
"An audience with the Time-Keepers is on the table?" Loki wondered.
"As well as a free life?" Jamie added.
"And the extra file of your life after death. Keep that focus," Mobius told them, telling Loki the first part.
They were now at the portal and went to Wisconsin.
