The Trail Ride

You tied Blaze up by the tack room door and grabbed another halter. "I will be right back." You told Loki. "Do you think you can grab my grooming supplies? Their in the tack room in a blue bucket in the cabinet that says (y/l/n) you shouldn't miss it." Loki said he would and you jogged off to go get Rex, the horse Loki will be riding.

Rex was a black school horse. He had three white socks and a star, snip, and strip down his face. He was a super sweet horse and extremely fun to ride on trails. He hardly ever got spooked and was extremely trust worthy. You thought Loki would have a fun nice relaxing trail ride with him.

While you went to go get Rex Loki and Blaze were by themselves. Loki got the grooming supplies you asked for and stood just out of Blaze's reach. Blaze just stood there and glared at Loki.

"I know you are no regular horse." Loki told Blaze in a cool emotionless manner. "But I can tell you care for (y/n) a lot, and would never allow harm to fall upon her."

Blaze raised his head up looking impressed with himself and snorted as to say. "You got that right buddy."

"I know you don't trust me." Loki continued. "I know you can feel my magic as well as I can feel yours. I know it scares you to know that a magic user is in close proximity to your human, but I promise I will never harm her. That I will protect her."

Blaze looked at Loki skeptically. Magic users where powerful and dangerous if they got out of hand. Blaze did not trust the god of lies in the slightest, but he also knew you. He knew that you had a problem staying out of trouble, now with you helping the Avengers it was going to be a chore keeping you safe. Blaze knew it would be better with two magic users keeping an eye on you. Blaze nickered and snorted keeping his head up as if saying, "you promise to keep an eye out for her?"

"I promise I will do my best to protect Lady (y/n) from harm." Loki said with so much truth in his voice Blaze had no choice but to trust him on that aspect. "Lady (y/n) has decided, despite my many mistakes to become my friend," Loki said the word friend like he wanted to use a different word, like friend wasn't a strong enough word to describe how he felt. "I will not let it go to waist."

Blaze and Loki had a starting match for a few long seconds before Blaze finally gave Loki one quick hard nod. Telling him he trusted Loki's words but still did not like him. Loki nodded back just as Blaze did. Though Loki did start to wonder why a being as smart and powerful as Blaze wanted to be your horse.

"This is Rex!" You declared as you led him into the stable. Loki and Blaze turned to you and almost instantly the tension in the room drained. You tied Rex up next to Blaze and smiled at Loki who smiled back at you. "I thought you and him would have a fun time on the trail ride." You explained cheerfully.

"He is a honorable horse." Loki told you patting Rex's muzzle. Rex, Loki realize straight away, was just a regular horse, but Loki could not be happier about that. He thought he would have lost his mind if you came in with an equally powerful being as Blaze. The two of you brushed down your horses and saddled up. Then you walked out and mounted your horses your sore muscles making it difficult for you. You groaned and grunted but eventually made it up onto Blaze's back.

"Sore?" Loki asked with a smirk when you finally got up.

"Like you would not believe!" You whined to him stretching trying to get your muscles to stop aching. Loki chuckled at your predicament, thinking it was cute to see you relaxed, talking to him like the two of you had been friends forever. "I'm thinking we should go on the snack trail." You decided after you were done stretching.

"The snack trail?" Loki asked you smirking. "What kind of a name is that."

"You will just have to see." Your voice had a teasing tone in it, you then turned Blaze and trotted off, not even waiting to see if Loki was fallowing you. Loki chuckled and rolled his eyes then spurred his horse on to fallow you. You stopped at the head of the trail and waited for Loki to catch up. "Ready?" You asked him. Loki gave you a nod and the two of you entered the forest.

The two of you rode in comfortable silence, you where enjoying the feeling of being out of the tower and on the back of Blaze again. You would tilt your head back and close your eyes taking in beep breaths taking in the forest's clean air. Loki would steel glances at you, happy you where so relaxed. Around the tower you tried to put on a persona that nothing bothered you and you where always care free. It was not like you weren't you around the tower but you where under more pressure there. Here you could truly let your hair down and relax. As the two of you rode Loki could not help but notice how your soft (h/c) hair swayed gently to the movement of your horse . How your (e/c) practically shined with happiness, how effortlessly your body moved and adjusted to Blaze's movements. He thought you where beautiful.

"How long has Blaze been your horse?" Loki asked after a long while. You thought about it for a moment before answering having to think about when you first got him.

"About three years." You said still thinking it over. "I got Blaze for a really cheap price. Apparently he was a wild horse and was causing problems around a bunch of ranches. He would break down fences and let out all of the rancher's horses. They finally caught him and tried to break him but couldn't. They then put him up for sale. I was looking for my own horse at the same time Blaze went on sale. He was so pretty I had to go and see him, even if his description was that he was a bad unrideable horse. I called the sellers and drove down to go take a look at him. When I saw him it was an instant connection, I knew he was meant to be my horse. Both of my parents tried to convince me otherwise saying he was wild and dangerous but I already made up my mind. I bought him and trained him. It was a lot of hard work but I finally got to ride him." Blaze nickered happily at the memory. Loki thought over your words.

"You said ride him, not break him." Loki pointed out, you nodded.

"I don't think I ever broke Blaze, but I can ride him. He has way to much spirit to be broken." Blaze nickered as to say, 'you got that right.' You smiled and patted his neck happy Blaze was yours. Loki was still trying to figure out why Blaze would want to be yours, what was so special about you? "What do you say we pick up the pace?" You asked Loki excitedly.

"I say what a wonderful idea." Loki mockingly said smirking at you, you smirked back.

"Alright pretty boy," you said with a bit a sarcasm, "lets see if you can keep up. Heya!" You spurred Blaze, extending your arms giving him his head. Blaze waisted no time and took off down the dirt trail. You whooped and hollered and giggled as Blaze galloped. You loved the wind in your hair and the feeling of freedom you got while riding. You twisted around in your saddle seeing if Loki was still with you, he was. He was behind you smiling from ear to ear. The two of you locked eyes and you could tell he felt the same way as you. Free. You giggled and turned back around in the saddle, you threw your head back hand howled in delight. Your then heard Loki do the same. The two of you galloped down the trail jumping over logs and just had a fun time. You veered right and left the trail going off road, Loki fallowing you trusting you knew where you were going.

You finally stoped at a little wild orchard of plum trees. "The snack trail!" You declared spreading your arms out in fake drama. Blaze walked over to a tree, he turned around and backed up a few steps so you could easily reach the fruit. You picked one the threw it to Loki who wasn't to far away. Loki caught it and studied it looking confused. You picked yours and rolled your eyes. "You eat it you silly." You then proceeded to shove the plum in your mouth. You chewed it up and spit out the pit. "You just don't eat the seed." You then picked another one and reappeared the proses.

Loki looked at his plum still not sure if he wanted to eat it but then looked at you. You where happily eating the wild fruit humming in delight at its goodness. Loki took a tentative bite and was surprised at how good it was, he had never eaten anything like it before. It was sweet and sour and very juicy. He then quickly ate it and joined you under the tree to pick some more.

The two of you laughed and ate the yummy fruit while your horses grazed on the grass. You where so happy Loki was happy. He seamed so relaxed and care free. He always hid his emotions around the tower but out here in the woods with you he could really just be himself.

After a while of the two of you talking and eating fruit you looked and your phone and sighed. "I guess we should be heading back." You said disappointed that your day out of the tower with Loki was nearly at an end.

"I guess we should." Loki agreed with you also disappointed that he had to go back to the tower. He then saw your sadness for him, you didn't want him to be locked in the tower as much as he didn't want to be locked in himself. Loki was one of your best friends and you hated how the team treated him. "Thank you again (y/n), for bringing me out here with you for the day." Loki said giving you a warm smile that reached his eyes. "It really meant a lot to me."

"I just wish I could do more." You whined to him, upset with yourself that you couldn't give Loki his freedom, or at least convince the team he isn't so bad. "I don't want to take you back. The team is so mean to you. I just want to stay out here in the wilderness with you where you can be happy." He had been so happy and relaxed all day and you wanted him to always feel that way.

Loki gave you a warm, sad, true smile, "I know love." Loki said gently, "its been a great day. One of the best, if not the best I've had on this planet. But that wasn't because we were out in the wilderness, it was because I got to spent time with you, doing what you love. I would love to be anywhere you are, you became my friend when no one else would. I'm so grateful for that." You looked up at Loki, his features were softened, a warm genuine smile on his lips, and love in his eyes. He really did seam happy to just be around you, and this made you scared. What if you weren't what he needed? What if you let him down? Would he still want to be around you when you weren't your bubbly happy self? There weren't a lot of those days when you sad, but they came, and they hit hard.

'You won't ever be enough for him.' You told yourself, 'so don't let it get to your heart. He's your friend that's all.' You gave Loki a sad smile. "I'm honored you think of me that way." You then went quite thinking of what to say next. You didn't know what to say, maybe you where just reading into this to far. "We should get going back before that thing shocks you." You said gesturing to the band in his wrist. Loki agreed with you and the two of you took off threw the forest.
