Loki - What are you even doing here?
As a Princess from another realm, you were brought to Asgard because there was a war on your planet.
Frigga had taken you into her home - palace. As you waited for your the war to be over, you often walked around in the rose gardens, carrying your stuffed doll with you - you were eight at the time.
The two Asgardian brother a bit older than you.
You'll never forget your first encounter with the younger Prince tough. You sat at the edge of the fountain, playing with your doll when Thor and Loki walked to you.
Thor waved at you and you waved right back.
'Are you the new Princess?' he asked. 'Mommy told us about you.' You nodded. 'Nice to meet you, Y/N. I'm Thor.'
He held out his hand, which you took. He had short golden locks that seemed to glow in the afternoon sun, blue eyes smiling friendly at you.
'Oh!' he said, as if suddenly remembering something important. 'And this is my brother. Loki, say hi.' The raven-haired boy rolled his eyes, folding his arms over his chest. 'Cole on, or I'll tell mom you didn't say hi.'
'Hi,' Loki bit, fists clenched and glaring at his brother. You smiled at the two brothers you'd be living with, for now, until the war ended.
'Hi,' you said to them. You took your doll between your fingers and clutched it to your chest, letting your legs dangling from the fountain.
'Great to meet you. If you don't mind, I have to go. Loki, will you sty with her? Mommy didn't want her to be alone. Make sure you are there for dinner,' Thor told you before storming off towards the training grounds.
Loki stared at you as you played with your doll, before taking a step closer to you and sitting next to you.
'Give me that,' he sneered. He suddenly grabbed your doll and it vanished. Your eyes widened.
'Hey, my doll-' you whined, looking around for it.
'Dolls are for kids. Grow up.' With that he pushed you into the fountain.
You yelped, water splashing around you as you coughed.
You never got your doll back. The younger Prince didn't make it a secret that he didn't like you, he wanted you gone. But at least there was Frigga, who loved you and treated you almost like her own daughter although you were just a guest - until the war was over, you reminded yourself on a daily basis.
Thor and you got along pretty well. But to Loki, you barely spoke. He did like to bully you until you would explode and scold him. But as soon Frigga turned around the corner, you became civil again, which he always smirked at.
When you came of age, Odin had thrown you a party. You were having fun with Thor, who drank his whole beer before you could say rainbow bridge.
Loki sat in front of you, glaring at you as always. He purposely kicked his heavy boots against your knee. You clenched your jaw, eyes focused on Thor, who used Lady Sifs hair as a moustache. You smiled, then grimaced when Loki's boot hit your knee harder.
'Stop it,' you hissed quietly. He smirked and did it again, so you drew your legs closer to your body. You looked back at Thor who got beaten by Lady Sif in a drinking contest.
Loki's foot tapped your chair, lifting it on two legs so you almost lost balance and fell off. Your hands shot up to the table to keep you there and he chuckled lightly.
You frowned and stood up, smoothing out your simple magenta dress before clearing your throat.
'I'm taking off. Tonight was really great,' you said to Thor and his friends. Thor shook his head, knocking a beer over.
'No, no, please stay. The night is not over! Look at all these beverages!' Thor boomed, making Fandral grin and taking a sip of his ale.
'I'm really tired,'you said. Of Loki, you thought. 'See you tomorrow.' They all said their goodbyes and a few happy birthdays, those who were still somber enough to remember it.
Then you left the hall and wandered through the corridors, on the way to your room. Even after all those years, you still found it hard to find your way in the maze of corridors and stairs.
You turned left as just then, someone grabbed your wrist. You rolled your eyes, quirking up an eyebrow.
'No,' you sighed. 'I'm so done with you.' Loki practically growled at you and spun you around forcefully.
'No, I'm done with you. Ten years you've been living here. Ten years of torture it has been with you.'
You bit your tongue.
'I've had enough. You're so disgusting. Yet, I bet Odin and Frigga adore you more than me. And what are you? Mewling quim that you are.' His words dripped with venom.
You clenched your fists.
'Know your place.' You glared at him. 'I am a Prince of Asgard, you should not even be allowed-'
'They adopted you, didn't they? Know your place,' you bit back, staring him directly kn the eye. His face went blank, and then suddenly all anger flashed in his eyes.
'Careful,' he threatened. 'At least they took me in willingly. Your father practically forced you in their hands!' he growled, hands clenching into fists as he spat his rage into your face.
'At least my father gad the dignity to drop me off here! Yours left you to die!' That was it. You've gone to far. In a blink of an eye, his hand whacked you your face so hard, your head flung back against the wall.
You whimpered and your hand shot up to grab your nose, to stop the gushing blood that stained the front of your dress.
You grunted and almost collapsed against the wall, squeezing your eyes shut. The pain spread across your face like a wildfire.
Loki's eyes went wide and he gulped most of his guilt down when he reached his hand out.
'I'm sorry. Are you okay?' he mumbled. Tears escaped the corners of your eyes and streamed down your face. Blood ran down your hands, trickled over your wrist and dripped in the white marble floor. 'Allow me to help you?'
You couldn't remember him sounding that civil with you.
He took you to his chambers, helped you sit down on his bed and fetched a bowl of water and a cloth.
As he sat beside you, he wetted the cloth and brought it up to your face. You removed your hands and immediately the blood flowed again.
He quickly placed the cloth over you nose, and held it there for you. His piercing eyes made your stomach churn so you avoided his gaze at all costs.
Once the bleeding stopped, he dipped the cloth in the water and tenderly cleaned your nose, then your cheeks, your lips...
If he weren't sitting in front of you, you wouldn't believe it to be Loki.
He took your bloodstained hand between his and gracefully rubbed the blood off them, before putting the cloth in the bowl of water and carrying it away into his bathroom again.
You watched him close the door and leaning against it, biting his lower lip as if he was nervous.
You hadn't said a word since he had hit you and it bothered him.
There was a soft knock at the door and Loki said: 'Come kn,' but it seemed to come from a distance.
Frigga walked inside and smiled glumly at the two of you.
'Y/N, there you are... I have some bad news for you,' she said, while gesturing for her son to come closer.
He sat next to you again, were he was before while taking care of you. She must've noticed you had been crying. She lowered herself down to her knees and held your hands in hers, giving a them a gentle squeeze.
'What's happened to you?' she asked.
Loki licked his lips and ran a hand through his hair.
'I fell,' you lied, but she knew. You knew she knew. She always did, but she didn't say anything about it.
'Y/N...?' She glanced at her son before letting her gaze drift to yours. 'Your father has passed away during the war.'
Those eight words slashed your heart, made it shatter into a thousand pieces. Your gut swelled and you had to hold it a sob.
Her hands tangled around yours, holding them tightly.
Loki sat there frozen, guilt lurking around the corner of his conscience.
'If there is anything I can do to help you right now,' Frigga whispered, 'please let me know.'
Your eyes glazed with tears, but you refused to let them go.
'I want... I want to be alone for a bit.' Your voice trembled and your hands were shaking. You got up and left the room without saying another word.
Loki watched you leave before he and Frigga got up too.
'And you,' she said with a scowl towards him, 'better go after her. Make it up to her.'
But even if she hasn't said that, Loki would've done that. All memories of how he treated you came flooding back, a sudden regret tingled his mind.
He found you on a balcony, sobbing, and your face buried in your hands. He stood there unnoticed until your sobs faded into whimpering hiccups.
'I'm sorry for you loss,' he told you softly. You jumped a little and spun around to see him fiddling with his hands.
You gave a nod.
'I'm sorry for earlier too.' You looked down at your feet. 'How... uhm... how are you doing?' You bit your lip.
Were you seriously having this conversation with him.
'I - I don't know what I'm feeling,' you told him honestly. He nodded, shifting from one foot to another.
'I don't really know how I am supposed to comfort someone... would you like a... hug?' he asked gently. Your mouth curved into a glum smile at his confession.
He stepped closer until he stood mere inches from you, before he wrapped his arms around you in a soothing embrace.
'Thank you,' you mumbled, your voice muffled by his chest.
'It's getting quite late.'
'Mhm.'
'You should get to bed,' he said, before placing a hesitant kiss on your forehead. You shook your head.
'I don't want to sleep,' you whispered. You probably couldn't.
'Then let me bring you to your room,' he insisted. That's how you ended up in your room. You thanked him and went to your own bathroom, putting on your nightgown.
Once back, he was still there, holding a glass of water for you to take before he put you in bed, tucked you in and planted a kiss to your forehead, this time a little bolder in his movements.
'How's your nose,' he asked as he sat up against the headboard, slowly stroking your hair, untangling the knot by brushing his fingers through it.
'It still hurts a bit,' you muttered, head falling aside, cheek pressed against the pillow so you could look at him.
'I'm sorry,' he apologized, looking at you through pleading eyes.
'It's fine. Thank you for being here, Loki. I don't want to be alone now,' you said. He nodded, a small smile featuring on his lips.
'Of course,' he said, beding down to lay next to you, draping the covers over him. Your hands wrapped around his body, pulling him closer while his breathing lulled you into a peaceful sleep.
