Chapter Seventy Two - A Couple More Days

EMILY POV

"This place is so beautiful." I sighed as we lay on the grassy hills far from the castle, looking up at the sky as it slowly turned deep shades of pinks and reds in the early afternoon. "I don't know if I will be able to go back to the Compound knowing I'm missing this."

"While I'm sure Mother would be more than happy to keep you," He chuckled. "The others will be missing you more. I'm sure if we had reception or whatever it is called here, they would be sending us too many messages."

"That's true." I laughed softly. "I miss them too. A lot. Maybe we should think about going back soon."

"I think you should stay a little longer." He shook his head, rolling over to look at me. "I mean, I've shown you all of the places in Asgard, surely you want to revisit your favourite ones a couple more times."

"That's true as well." I sighed before rolling over to face him. "It's too hard of a decision." I pulled a face.

"Then let me make it for you." He chuckled, gently kissing my wrinkled nose. "And I say we stay here a little longer."

"Are you sure?" I sobered up a little. "I mean, I know this place doesn't hold the best memories for you."

"It's better if I'm with you." He shook his head and I blushed softly at the compliment. "I'm serious, I'm having more fun here with you than I ever have before. And I'm sure you are too."

"I really am." I nodded, a small smile weaving its way back onto my lips. "Okay, a couple of more days can't hurt."

"Right decision darling." He smiled softly. "Come on, how about we go to the waterfalls again? I know you loved it there. Maybe you'll finally be able to catch one of those fish with your hands this time."

I was definitely not successful in using my hands to catch a fish. They moved faster than any other fish I had ever seen before, maybe because they had a concerning amount of fins along the side of their sleek bodies. I had been balancing carefully on one of the stepping stones just off from the bottom of the waterfall, Loki calling out advice to me, when one of them swam closer to me than all of the others had dared. I had immediately lurched out to grab it and had overbalanced and landed face-first in the water which was much colder than I expected. It was barely a second of cold though before Loki teleported me out and dried me off with his magic, calling me clumsy more times than necessary until I threatened to push him into the water. He had dared me with a grin and I immediately tried to drag him over to the water's edge to shove him in, but he let go of my hand at the last second and sent me tumbling back into the water, much to his amusement and my annoyance. I was still plotting a way to get back at him.

We had dinner out on the balcony again, something that had become a daily routine because neither one of us wanted to risk coming face-to-face with Odin. It was much nicer anyway on the balcony, the sunset was especially amazing, and even when it was long gone, we could still see with the help of Loki's floating lights. I contributed by lighting some of the candles when the wind blew them out. It felt almost pathetic, but I knew he would instantly deny it.

Another bonus of eating out on the balcony was that we could stay out as long as we wanted and not have to worry about a long walk back to bed when we got tired. Though I swear he never got tired, and I was almost always the one falling asleep on him. He just told me he found it adorable.

I had been peacefully sleeping, wrapped up loosely in a cocoon of blankets with Loki's arms wrapped around me too, when I felt him begin to move behind me. I stirred softly and he gently pressed a kiss to my forehead, my eyes not even bothering to open.

"I'm just going to the bathroom darling." He murmured. "It's okay, you can go back to sleep."

"Okay." I mumbled, smiling softly as I nestled back into the warm sheets.

However, when I heard the bedroom door open up instead of the bathroom door, my eyes slowly opened up and I rolled over to see Loki quickly slip out of the door and into the hallway, shutting it quietly behind him. I laid there for a couple of moments, trying to figure out what to do, before I slowly pulled the blankets off and moved towards the door. Some part of me was worried that maybe he had a nightmare or something that I didn't hear, and I couldn't bear the idea of him isolating himself because of it. He hadn't had many nightmares before when I slept with him, but when he had, they had shaken him quite a bit.

I reached for the door handle to open it up, but I paused when I heard murmuring voices coming from the other side. I instantly recognised Loki's.

"Are you any closer?" He asked, his voice hushed.

"Tony has managed to get into one of the systems of one base." A voice replied and I instantly recognised it to be Thor's voice. "He's using that to hack into the base Emily was in."
