Gobble Gobble
"Thanksgiving." Luna uttered the word while talking to someone on her StarkPhone, I had no clue who she was talking to but I really didn't care. I didn't need to be the protective boyfriend anymore... though I couldn't help but act like it. Twice in the span of an hour I had asked Luna who she was talking to on the phone and once she glared at me saying it was none of my business. The second time she walked away ignoring me.
Finally she hung up and I pounced, "Who was that? What's a Thanksgiving? Why did you take so long on the-?"
"Loki!" She put a finger against my lips to silence me, raising her voice the slightest, "Now is not the time. I have to pack and it's just a big mess."
"What is?" I gently moved her hand away from my mouth
"Thanksgiving. It's a Midgardian American holiday, this year Tony wants to host it at his 'fabulous' Malibu Mansion. Though, technically it is Steve's turn to host in his little Washington DC apartment. Both are arguing so we made a compromise- New York at Clint's. It's just a huge bag of headaches, especially between Steve and Tony. I swear those two are going to start a Civil War somewhere between super heroes. God." She sounded exasperated as she walked towards her closet and started to get a suitcase ready
"Oh." She didn't mention if I was coming with or not. No 'go pack your bag' or 'what are you waiting for? Hurry up and pack!'. "Luna?"
"Yes, Loki?" She yanked the suitcase from the back of the closet sending an avalanche of things falling on the floor, "Uggh!"
"Are you going by yourself?"
She looked up and really stared at me, the God of Mischief, for once, "I didn't think you'd want to come."
"No, I would like to come with you." And more.
"Okay, I guess you can come. I should call the guys first."
"Who's coming to this event?"
"Oh the gang: Steve, Tony, Natasha, Clint, Bruce- I think, and maybe Coulson."
"What about Thor? Isn't he friends with them?"
"Well, I guess but I think he's spending Thanksgiving with Jane's family."
"Oh." There were going to be a lot of men at this event and some of them were far from trusting.
"By the way, if you get into another fight with Tony or into another ballet duel with Steve, don't ask for my help. I'm not sticking up for you if you get yourself into trouble- which you do quite often."
"Wait," I turned to face her, "you don't want me to go. Do you?"
"No, I'm perfectly fine with you coming along."
"You are the worst lier there is."
"Says the God of Mischief, of course my lies are crap compared to yours. I mean my lies last anywhere from a few seconds to a few weeks. Your lies last anywhere from a few seconds to a few years." She pointed out
"Are you accusing me of lying to you Luna?" I asked, angered
"Oh I don't know, does I love you and then I don't think I love you ring a bell? Loki, did you lie to me for several years, saying that you loved me when you really didn't?"
"I-I thought I did. I really thought so."
"Let me guess," She put a hand on her hip, "you were interested in a Midgardian since the only ones you had seen up close you had killed. Not only were you curious but you got even curiouser when I saved your life, is that it? Did I solve the case Loki? Or do we need to go to another Murder Mystery date?"
I slammed my fist against the top of a table, "Shut up Luna! Shut the Hel up you mewling quim!"
"Yep, that's it. I'm leaving. Bye Loki. I'm done with all," She waved her hands in front of me, gesturing to me and my entire being. "this."
As she was walking out, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards me. "Luna, do you not understand?" I asked gruffly, my grip on her wrist increasing, "Do you not understand how much torment you have put me through these past years?"
"You seemed to forget pretty nicely when you disappeared into that wormhole, or when you were in Midgard and decided that you would take it over even though I lived there now, or what about the time during out dinner date when you let me get attacked by those two guys and I was almost rap-"
I kissed her. To quiet her I kissed her.
At first her eyes closed and her lips melted into mine and she kissed me back. After several seconds, however, she opened her eyes, broke away from the kiss, and slapped me. She was strong. I let her slap me and yell at me again, taking the fall I deserved.
"Can I please talk Luna?"
"Are you going to kiss me again?"
"No." I hung my head earning a frown from Luna, "I just want to say I'm sorry."
"Oh. Okay, I forgive you."
"Really?"
"Yes. But Loki?"
"Yes?"
"No more kissing or acting like a couple. People who don't like or love other people don't act so love-y dove-y to them. Okay?"
"I'll try my best."
...
We both packed our suitcases and headed to the BiFrost. Heimdall was waiting and gave me a look before letting us go to Midgard. I suppose Luna and Heimdall are friends and she comes to him for advice. Once we landed, a car was waiting for us with none other than the man of iron or Tony as Luna affectionately called him.
"Sweet Maserati, Tony." Luna smirked before handing him her suitcase
"Thought I'd go all out for our little reunion, it's been awhile."
"Actually not too long, remember last week?"
"Oh." I felt his gaze on me as I surveyed the surrounding area, "Yea, I remember. It was fun. Hey Luna?"
"Yea?"
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure." They walked a little off and the old boyfriend protectiveness- or jealousy- took over me and I turned into a small lizard, quickly walking to where they were located.
"Why is he here?" Tony hissed
"Because Tony, I invited him."
"Without asking anyone else? He tried to take over the world once Luna, he'll try again if you give ole reindeer games the chance again. Besides, I thought you two were through."
"Just- He won't do it again Tony. We are through, it's just that he doesn't know what to do now that we're through. I've gone on to spend time with friends and be productive while all he does is be clingy and mope. Not to mention that he has no visitors since a lot of his friends left him or really weren't his actual friends."
Tony sighed and gently brushed a piece of hair away from Luna's face that the wind blew there since it picked up speed, "We should leave, just go to the island. Hang out."
Luna smiled softly, "I'm sorry Tony but we have a commitment to our friends and you have Pepper."
"Pepper smepper." He mumbled
"No, not Pepper smepper. Without her you would be a complete mess Tony. And when you were in that mess, that was the time that I got sick and had to be taken away. So I couldn't have helped you anyway."
"I guess." He took her hand and swung their connected arms as they walked back to the car, her laughing. I quickly changed back into myself and acted like I was leaning against the car reading
"Loki, it's time to go." Luna gently placed a hand on my shoulder before whispering in my ear, "Do you want to ride shot-gun next to Tony or in the back?"
"Can I sit in the back with you?"
"There's not enough room." Tony told me before hopping in, "Either the front or the back, pick one reindeer games."
"I really wish he would stop calling me that, it's irritating and it was one time." I complained to Luna annoyed
She laughed, "Oh Loki, I'll talk to him okay?"
...
In the end I was sitting in the back and Tony had Luna up there in the front next to him. They were talking and laughing, while I was silently listening in and staring out the window. "Loki, do you want something to eat?" Apparently we had stopped, I wouldn't know with Tony's reckless driving.
"No. I'm fine."
"You fell asleep during the drive, are you okay?"
"Yes, just different times and atmospheres I suppose."
"Okay." She smiled and closed the door, walking towards a building that we were parked next to. A sign on it stated that they made the 'best shakes and fries for miles around'. I smirked at the thought of having the opportunity to dump a shake on Tony's head- it would just be a 'quick stop' that he made and I would act as if I flew forward, spilling the cool frosty drink all over his car and him.
"What are you smirking at, reindeer games?"
I groaned, he was still in the car while Luna went to go get the food, "Would you please stop calling me that."
"I think it fits you, you're ridiculous. You want a big melodramatic show to be put on in your honor, you want Luna to fawn over you and yet you treat her like absolute crap."
"At least I'm not a egotistic narcissistic alcoholic."
"I'm surprised you even know what those words mean since you live in 'Ye Ole England'."
"Asgard is more advanced then Midgard you mewling quim, not only that but our society is based on chivalry not the shallowness of one's strength, popularity, or beauty."
"Beauty!? Isn't that the whole reason you took notice of Luna?!" He slammed his hand against the steering wheel, narrowly missing the horn, "She told me how you wouldn't bat an eye at her until she was in her formal gown and saved your goddamned life! Do you call that judging a book by it's cover or being a hypocritical ass?! Oh I know, how about both!" There was a knock on the window and Luna stood there, several bags in her hands. Tony unlocked the door.
"You two looked like you were having a nice argument. I could hear it all the way from inside the restaurant."
The rest of the ride to the destination was quiet, Tony drove in silence while we all occasionally munched on our food. From the comments that Tony made earlier, he deserved the shake-in-his-lap treatment but I didn't want to upset Luna.
...
After awhile, we stopped at the boarder of one state to the next. We all got out to use the restroom or look at the exhibit they had on display. 'Habitat Deforestation' the exhibit sign read, 'Because of logging in this area, a lot of animals have lost their homes and several species have become extinct. We must stop this from occurring in other states and other places around the world. Continue to window two to continue the exhibit.'
Luna was looking in the gift shop since she had already seen the exhibit before (apparently it travels), while Tony and I were finishing up the last couple of windows.
"You don't deserve Luna. She's too kind to you. You're holding her back." Tony spoke once and went to the gift shop to talk to Luna. I dug my nails into my hand and bit my lip, was I really holding her back?
A few minutes later we all got back into the car and started to drive again. Tony had to brake quickly since a deer ran into the road and Luna hated it when people ran over innocent animals who have a highway built in the middle of their home. This was my chance! I 'dropped' my milkshake on him and the lid popped off spilling milkshake all over Tony and Luna. Tony glared at me and pulled over to a rest stop to fix his car and his now sticky wet clothes. Luna sighed and went to go clean herself up as well.
...
They couldn't wash all the milkshake out of their clothes so they had to get some from the suitcases. Luna took out her pajamas and put those on while Tony put on some jeans and a grey t-shirt. We began to drive again and soon Luna fell asleep. It was extremely awkward for Tony and I since it was obvious that he hated me almost as much if not more than I hated him.
...
Finally we arrived in New York City, a place Luna had never been. Tony gently woke her up as we entered the outskirts of the city. She 'ooh-ed' and 'ahh-ed' at all the lights and sights until we came to the neighborhood where the man I had used for my conquest lived.
"He has a new neighbor." Tony mentioned to Luna
"Who?"
"Her name is Kate."
"Cool."
"She likes archery as well." He parked the car and Luna started to fall back asleep. Tony sighed, "I normally would never ask this, but can you stay here with her- keeping the doors locked- while I bring everything in the apartment then I'll come back to get the both of you?" I nodded and he smiled, relieved, "Thanks."
Tony walked away with several of the suitcases and came back a few minutes later, he picked Luna up bridal-style- the way I used to carry her- and headed towards the building. I followed with the last suitcase and Tony hit the lock button on his car keys.
"I'll get the door." I proposed after heading up two flights of stairs and standing in front of apartment 211. It swung open and a cheery red-head met my eyes, instantly frowning.
"Who brought Thor's brother?" She asked, annoyed. Oh, she was still mad about what I did to her friend. Whoops.
"Thor's brother is here?" The soldier out of time asked, surprised
A brown-haired man stepped up, "Okay guys listen, I know it's not a very nice idea but Loki is going to be spending Thanksgiving with us. I get that we all have our arguments and annoyances with him but he's Luna's... friend... so we have to be nice to him, okay?" They were quiet before a few nods and okays were seen and heard. "Let's start from the beginning, I'm Clint. That's Nat." He pointed to the red-haired woman
"It's Natasha to you." She interjected
"That's Steve." He pointed to the man out of time who gave a small wave while popping another chip in his mouth. "Bruce is... somewhere... He's the one with glasses and the black-ish brown hair." I made a mental-note of what he looks like, "You know him, he's the one that Hulk-ed out on you and probably broke something up in Stark's tower. That should be... it? Maria and Coulson might come over sometime later."
"Coulson?"
"Yea, the one you stabbed." Nat pointed out
"Oh. He's not...?"
"They brought him back to life- it was really painful." Nat rolled her eyes and walked to a back room, disappearing from view for a moment
Steve went into the small kitchen that was on the left side of the room when standing in the front doorway, "Hey Loki, do you want something to drink?"
"What do you have?" I asked curiously walking farther into the apartment, Tony used his foot to close the door and headed around the corner to what I'm assuming was a bedroom
"We have beer, various varieties; some soda, of various varieties; and water. What'll you have?"
"Can I have a beer?"
"Sure, any specific brand you want?"
"Any is fine." 'Steve' handed me a beer and I sat down on one of the couches, I kept waiting for Tony to come back into the main room but he didn't. 'Clint' went to talk to the girl next door and Nat was no where to be seen- same went for the elusive Bruce. It was awkward sitting there with Steve in silence.
"So..." Steve began, "Asgard, what's it like?"
"It's okay I suppose."
He turned to look at me, "I heard about what happened. I'm sorry."
"About Luna and my breaku-"
"Yes. She's a good person and she saw the good in you."
"Please don't give me a lecture about how I don't deserve her or how I'm lucky to have her." I interrupted thinking about what Tony said earlier
"I'm not. I was going to say that she's your- excuse me, this saying is still rather new to me- ying and you're her yang."
"What?"
"Um... she's your peanut butter and your her jelly? She's the smoke to your high? There was this song that Nat showed me..."
"Okay then?" I was genuinely confused at what Steve was saying and usually it was the other way around
...
Steve turned on the television an hour ago and Tony was just walking into where we were sitting now. "Where have you been?" I asked, attempting to keep any form of malice from my voice
"Sleeping. Hence my hair." He pointed to his head which was a mess of spikes from his hair product and from him sleeping on it.
"Where's Luna?"
"Still sleeping."
I put two and two together. "Oh."
Steve looked between us and sighed, standing, "Can I get you a refill Loki?"
"No."
"Can I get you something to drink, Tony?"
"Scotch."
"Okay." Steve prepared the drink as Tony sat down
"Have you seen Nat by any chance?"
"No."
"I wonder where she went."
"Well, you were asleep so long that Clint went next door and Nat disappeared into a back room." Steve handed Tony his drink to which Tony mumbled a thanks
We all just sat there, watching the television program and drinking our drinks in silence. Tony, every once and awhile, would glance at the same type of phone that Luna had- as if someone was going to call him any second. Steve was deeply into the show on the television, but would occasionally look at Tony and I. Finally, a little while later- the fifth episode of a second show that Steve turned on- Luna walked in.
She yawned and gave a sleepy wave, "Hi guys."
"Hi Luna." Steve waved and stood up
"Steve!" She ran over and gave him a big hug, "It's been the longest time!"
"It has. Do you want something to drink?"
"Do you have iced tea- or does Clint have iced tea?"
"I can make some."
"Thanks." Steve went to work to make the tea for Luna as she casually sat down on the couch and watched the show for a few seconds before turning to Tony and I, "What's up?"
"Not much, I'm thinking about making a new update for the StarkPhones. I feel like they don't run fast enough."
"They run fine." She objected, "How about you Loki? My boys treating you nice?"
Her boys? "Steve certainly is. I don't know about Tony."
She playfully hit his arm, "C'mon Tony, why can't you be nice?"
"Cause I don't play nice. Especially when people touch my stuff."
Luna looked at him curiously, attempting to figure out his words- but I knew. He was talking about me. And when I used to date Luna. He knew that I wanted to get back with Luna again. He didn't want that to happen. He wanted to stop that anyway he could.
...
Luna made us all watch War Horse while she yelled at the screen during certain parts. "No! You idiot, Benedict fucking Cumberbatch! You just-! Look what you did! You killed Tom Hiddleston! I just... I can't believe you! Look at Tom's face! He knows he's going to die and you don't realize this until AFTER you tell them to charge! Tell them to fucking retreat! Goddd!!!" She collapsed, exasperated, into the couch
"It seems like you really like this movie." Tony pointed out, still staring at his little screen and working on an update for his StarkPhone
"It's a good movie, Tony, shut up." Steve filled in and then realizing he just told someone to shut up, he quickly clamped his mouth shut and went back to the movie. Tony chuckled at his response.
"Hey, when is all the food and stuff going to be made? Isn't Thanksgiving tomorrow?"
"I can just heat up the turkey using my suit, easy."
"Are you sure that it won't burst into flames?"
"Here, I'll show you." Tony stood and put on an arm of his suit, "Steve get the turkey." Steve did as Tony asked and grabbed the turkey from the sink where it was slowly defrosting. Tony lined up and aimed as Steve threw it in the air, the flaming bird fell back towards the wooden floors and almost caught the couch on fire.
"Holy shit Tony! Get a fire extinguisher or something!" Luna yelled
Steve looked around before taking a blanket and throwing it over the turkey, he then attempted to put out the fire that way. Tony joined in and tried to do the same. In the end, Steve stepped on the bird to stop the final licks of the flame and I was left laughing.
Tony grabbed me by the neck and shoved me against the wall, "Do you think that this building possibly setting on fire is funny?!"
"No, the way you were handling it was the funny part." I answered back shrugging him off and walking to Luna, "What you did was completely irresponsible and completely dangerous." Luna looked up at me and smiled. If she wanted someone who was responsible and thought before committing an action, then that was going to now be me.
Tony scoffed and walked back towards the bedroom he had come from originally.
"Hey it's almost ten, should we stay up or hit the hay?" Luna asked
"I'm going to bed just after I finish cleaning up this bird." Steve interjected, "Clint's staying at Kate's; Natasha and Bruce are already sleeping; Tony is probably going to work on his phone over there; and I'm going to bed too."
"Oh, wait, where is Loki going to sleep?"
"I can sleep on the couch."
"No, if there aren't any places left, I'll just kick Tony out or I'll sleep out here."
Steve finished cleaning up the turkey and went to bed, Luna and I started to watch another movie as she snuggled close to me. This is why I liked Luna so much, even though we were no longer dating, she still made me feel quite... special.
...
The next day- or morning, (we fell asleep watching the third historical film that Luna had put on and it was well past midnight) we, Luna and I, were woken by Stark jumping on the couch and yelling in my ear. I didn't like being woken up that way, so I punched him. He flew to the floor and Luna jumped in between us, "Don't start- either of you!" She yelled and walked to the kitchen.
Clint walked in through the front door, mumbled a hello and went to prepare something in the kitchen. For the rest of the day food was being prepared and Luna pitched in. I attempted to help but they obviously wanted to hurry and prepare the food. So I walked around the apartment- that's what Luna said it was called- and looked at the many things Clint had on his walls. Framed pictures of him and his team, some newspaper clippings, and other sentimental things. One of them was an angry editor of a newspaper, he wrote a letter of complaint to Clint and Clint had framed it. I'm assuming he was proud that he got in the newspaper without the help of his friends- or that he really liked being cursed at in front of millions of readers.
As I walked to the back of the apartment, Natasha was coming out of her room and we ran into each other- within ten seconds flat she had pinned me to the wall and held a small pistol up to my head, "What are you doing back here?" She growled
"I was just looking around, calm down will you?" I acted nonchalant
"Sureeee, I'm in on your game Loki. You're not dating Luna anymore so any judgement reserved for you is now put out on the table." The gun was removed from my temple and she walked away slowly, glancing back every few steps. Laughter came from the kitchen, Natasha joined in.
...
Finally the meal was ready and we all sat down to eat; Clint was at one head of the table, Natasha at the other. Bruce had finally come from his books and joined us to eat the meal Luna had helped prepare. He sat on Natasha's right while Steve sat on her left, the Kate girl (Bishop was her last name?) sat on Clint's right, and Tony sat on his left. Luna and I were in the middle, facing each other- Luna's right was Tony, on her left was Bruce- so I was stuck in between Steve and Kate. I didn't mind being next to Steve but Luna being next to Tony bothered me. They kept whispering and whatnot which was annoying. A bountiful feast was served after everyone was asked what they were thankful for.
"Food." Tony spoke the one word and gazed at the platters
"Friends and family." Luna smiled
They all turned to me, "I'm thankful that I didn't take over Midgard."
