The Neigbor (Loid x Reader)
Author's note: So, if you're wondering where this would fall in the timeline of the anime, this would take place during the very first episode when Loid was still addressed as Robert, his former alias before becoming Loid.
Background: After settling yourself down in the heart Berlint, you find yourself captivated by the blonde neighbor across the hall.

A frantic cry erupted from outside your door, startling you enough to nearly drop the cup of tea you had been cradling all morning.
While most would already be scrambling to dial the secret police, you simply shook your head with an exasperated sigh.
You had only moved into the Berlint apartment a few days ago after receiving a position in City Hall's finance department. It was a career path many never failed to comment on, sneering that it was no woman's place to be an accountant. You couldn't care less, though. Sure, you were weary whenever another coworker got dragged out of the office for conspiracy, and making friends wasn't the easiest task, but those were chances you didn't mind taking. The job paid well, and it meant you had extra cash to send home.
Another scream rang from the hallway, and you looked up to your front entrance. Despite meeting most of your neighbors, you had yet to come across the mysterious person across the hall. You had tried knocking a few days ago during your introductory rounds, but no one had answered. Within the span of three days, you watched as the same woman came bawling from the door, beelining to the elevator with a mascara-soaked face. Whoever lived behind that door certainly seemed to have quite the partner.
Once the banging started, that's when you decided it was time for an intervention. At the very least, to restore some of the peace and quiet on your floor.
You strode across your living room, swinging open your door to find a dirty-blonde woman practically throwing herself at your neighbor's, rapting her fists against the wood so hard you thought it would splinter.
"Yu-YOU BASTARD!" She wailed hysterically, the signature black makeup already leaking from her eyes. You leaned against the wall, contemplating how best to approach and maybe comfort her down enough to stop the shouting.
Fortunately, to both your and her shock, the door eventually gave way.
And your eyes met his.
For a moment, you said nothing as you took in the man's appearance. His green suit fit him beautifully, revealing a toned build beneath the fabric. Platinum blonde hair fell evenly over his face, trimmed to an almost perfect length. However, his frosty blue eyes were the most striking of all his handsome features. You felt a heat rise to your cheeks as his cold gaze swept over your own figure.
"R-Robert!"
You cringed away from the woman's cry, almost forgetting she was even there. You looked back expectantly to the handsome man, assumingly named Robert, curious as to how he would shush the distraught woman.
"Karen," he warned, eyeing her ardulously. You shivered at his demanding tone, both attracted and intimidated. The single word seemed to do the trick as it silenced Karen immediately, her eyes glistening with tears.
"I've told you repeatedly not to come here anymore." Robert sighed, running a tired hand down his face. "I don't want to have to keep reminding you. This is the fifth time you've shown up here and disgraced yourself. I suggest you stop now." His eyes gleamed with a chilling animosity, "unless you want me to drag your father into this..."
Karen's eyes widden in horror, persistently shaking her head back in fourth. "N-No! I mean uh, thats.... not necessary," she grumbled, face flushed with embarrassment.
"It's just that, I," her grip on her hand bag tightened as she glared daggers into the floor. "I love you! And... and I want us to get married!"
The hallway went deathly quiet. You felt suffocated in awkwardness. Robert took a sharp intake, the first crack you saw in his hardened resolve, but just as quickly as it came, his expression turned neutral once again, not an ounce of emotion leaking through.
"I'm sorry Karen, but you know it can't be done. And truthfully, your limited intelligence is simply not for me."
Ouch, you thought with a grimace, not expecting such a brutal response. Clearly, Karen hadn't either as her wails erupted in full strength. She stomped on Robert's foot before high tailing back to the elevator. Although this time, you assumed she most likely wasn't coming back.
Moments later, Robert turned to you, a sliver of a smile starting to form across his face. He rubbed nervously at the back of his neck, and you almost felt whip lashed with the sudden 180 of his attitude.
"I'm sorry you had to see all that, miss," he said bashfully, clearly embarrassed by the whole ordeal, not that you could blame him.
"It's quite alright," you insisted, waving your hands. "I've had a fair share of crazy ex's to, I understand."
A calm silence settled between the two of you, and you reluctantly began retreating back to your apartment, still unable to look away from your handsome neighbor.
"I hope to see you again-"
"Robert," he finished, extending a friendly hand to you. His palm was large and warm, and a small part of you was comforted by the touch.
"Well, nice to meet you Robert."
With a few more parting words, you slipped back into your apartment, missing the lingering gaze on you as Robert closed his door.

From that day on, you began to run into your eccentric neighbor a lot more frequently.
You met him a few times in the hall, usually when either you or him were in a rush to work. Sometimes you'd end up taking the elevator at the same time, exchanging pleasantries and learning new things about the other. You found out that he was a newly hired psychiatrist at Berlint Hospital and that he tended to take late night calls. You told him of your own job in City Hall as a finance consultant, explaining the pros and cons of the career.
Soon you started to look forward to the brief moments shared between you and Robert, more than you cared to admit. Short conversations turned into occassional coffee or lunch dates, and you couldn't say the development between the two of you wasn't romantic either.
In fact, you currently stood poised in front of your bedroom mirror, eyeing the subtle touch of make-up you just applied. It wasn't anything bold, just a hint more blush and eyeliner than you usually went for, but today you wanted to catch the eye of a certain blonde man across the hall.
After a bit more fiddling with your outfit, you picked up your purse and started heading for your door.
The sight that greeted you as you entered the apartment hallway was one you weren't planning on forgetting anytime soon. Robert stood poised outside his door, a bouquet of roses nestled neatly in his arms. He wore a mint green suit that fitted him well, hugging his best features while barely hiding the tone of his arms.
"R-robert, you didn't have to," you smiled as he handed you the flowers, all while insisting it was the proper thing to do for a lady as beautiful as you.
The date started off well as Robert easily guided you through the streets of Berlint to a small Cafe a block from your apartment. The two of you had gone frequently enough for the owner to wave in greeting before serving your typical orders of tea and coffee.
Robert discussed his most recent patient stories as you sipped your drink, unable to look away from his handsome face and beautiful lips. If Robert noticed your blatant staring he didn't comment, smirking playfully as he continued talking.
Eventually the two of you left to take a stroll through one of the parks as the sun began to set. The cotton candy hues of clouds drifted above while you walked side by side in silent content, enjoying the company. As you rounded the final corner to your apartment Robert suddenly stopped, grabbing your arm quickly before ducking into a nearby alleyway and shifting his weight to shield your body against a brick wall.
You gasped in protest before Robert signaled you to be quiet, confused and in a daze of high alert, you did as he wished before hearing the thundering footsteps of the secret police.
"Twilight is somewhere here!" You could faintly make out the buzzed words as men swarmed toward your apartment. Robert tensed against you at the mention of this so called Twilight, unwilling to move until he was sure the men were long gone. You hadn't realized how close the two of you were until he slowly extracted himself from you, the heat of his body lingering against your own.
Robert peered down at you solemnly, a twinge of guilt settling on his handsome features. You felt your arm raise to rub against the side of his cheek, a steadying breath escaping him.
"I'm sorry (Y/N)," Robert whispered, waiting for your permission until eventually pressing his forehead against your own.
"I'm not exactly who I say I am."
"Then who are you?"
Robert sighed, "I am not a doctor at Berlint Hospital." His eyes pierced you as he said bluntly, "I am a spy for the Western territory of Westalis."
The statement took you completely off guard and your mind raced to comprehend the information. A spy!? They were real!? And not only that, but he was one of them!?
Standing straighter you asked, "If you're a spy, then why tell me? Isn't that compromising your identity?"
Robert shook his head, the darker expression returning as he admitted, "I'm being relocated to start a new operation. I won't be allowed to live here anymore."
In spite of the bubbling anger rising within you at the thought of Robert, the first man you really started to developing feelings for, lying to you, you couldn't help but feel the stab of betrayl. If he knew he was only going to be staying temporarily, why would he lead you on? Why engage with you at all?
"I know it was selfish of me to involve you into all this, (Y/N)," Robert strained, voice laced with apologies, "but when I saw you... I couldn't help but want to see you. I... I've never felt this way about anyone. But my line of work is dangerous beyond your comprehension and if you got hurt," he swallowed, "I wouldn't forgive myself. But I thought you should know the truth before I up and vanished. I almost did."
You studied his apologetic expression, clearly as pained as your own. Inhaling sharply you decided to make the most of the time you apparently had left.
"I'm assuming your name isn't actually Robert."
He nodded in agreement.
"So, what... is your name?"
Your curiosity made him chuckle, the sound echoing throughout the alleyway and causing your heart to flutter.
"I don't have a true name due to my work, but let's start with Twilight."
"Ok... Twilight," you whispered as the spy eagerly closed the gap between you.
He pressed your back further against the wall, lacing his fingers between your own and raising them above your head as he deepend the kiss. You moaned lightly into him, only spurring his actions. The warmth of his palm spread against the dip of your hip, radiating through your body.
It wasn't until several more seconds that you mustered the energy to pull back. Twilight's gaze never left your face.
"I, um," you stuttered, still not completely over the shock of what you, he, the two of you, had done.
Twilight watched you fondly, his innate social ability easily picking up on your fears.
"One day, when peace is some day restored, I'll find you again (Y/N)."
You inwardly smiled at the impossible promise, but let it settle into your heart. Wordlessly you embraces the spy, the tug of your beating heart assuring you that the two of you would be reunited again.

Hello my lovely readers! Sorry for the long wait! I've recently been swamped with work and as the new semester starts up I'm afraid it'll become even harder for me to update. But, don't fear! I've been slowly working on new chapters and hope to release them a bit more frequently as the term goes on. This one I wasn't as proud of, but I had fun writing it no less. Thank you for reading, and let me know if you have any suggestions!
