Soulmate AU

Kurt's body was covered in fur. There were parts of him where the fur was short, and could probably be classified easier as fuzz rather than fur, and there were parts of him that had no fur at all. One of those parts, was three giant marks that spread across his whole back, and looked like he had been attacked by a bear, or something much larger. These marks were not the result of a violent battle with a ferocious beast, but were actually marks to represent Kurt's soulmate.

Kurt was almost afraid to ever meet his soulmate, fearing that the claw marks on his back meant that his soulmate was angry, and mean. He worried that his soulmate was going to be some sort of beast, who would hurt Kurt, and treat him poorly. Because of his concerns, Kurt never really sought out the person he was meant to be with, like all of the other people around him did. Kurt would also only where clothes that covered his back completely, out of fear that if someone saw his mark, they would know who his soulmate was, and Kurt would no longer have the choice of not ever meeting them.

When Kurt did eventually meet his soulmate, however, the man was not mean, or cruel. He was blunt, and gruff, and Kurt was able to understand why some people had issues with him, but the man was still nice, and treated Kurt well. Kurt had met him completely on accident, after he and a few other mutants were rescued from the Munich circles. The other mutants that had been rescued all left to go find their families who they were taken from, but Kurt, having no family or home to return to, was taken back to where the X-men who saved him lived.

It was there that Kurt had met Logan, who was a short gruff man that was opening a beer with what appeared to be a knife that was growing out of the man's hand. Kurt approached the man a bit tentatively to introduce himself, but he found that his planned introduction got stuck in his throat. Logan was wearing a white tank top that was a bit see through, which was how Kurt was able to see the purple and pink clouds that expanded over Logan's side.

"Forgive me, but may I see that mark on your side?" Kurt asked awkwardly after stuttering out an introduction. Logan looked a bit angry, or at least confused, but he lifted up the side of his shirt nonetheless, allowing Kurt to come closer.

Kurt didn't touch the marks on Logan's side, but he did hover his fingers slightly above them. Kurt knew that the marks on Logan represented him, and the clouds he left when he teleported, and that made Kurt feel almost terrified to be there. Logan had known shown any signs that he was any kind of threat to Kurt, but that didn't stop the man from thinking about the gruesome marks on his back that looked like they could only be left by a truly violent person.

"What's so interesting?" Logan asked gruffly, making Kurt pull his hands away and back up a little as Logan pulled his shirt back down.

"Sorry. It's just - I know who your soulmate is." Kurt replied, looking down at the ground, and almost feeling like he was going to puke.

"You do?" Logan looked surprised and curious as he stepped a little closer, but stopped immediately when he saw Kurt step back quickly.

"Yes." Kurt paused, and debated on whether or not to tell Logan the truth, but Kurt figured that he didn't have much of a choice, and that if he didn't tell Logan then, the man would just find out later, and be mad at Kurt for lying to him. "It's me. Those clouds on your side are just like the clouds I leave behind when I teleport."

To demonstrate, and prove to Logan that he wasn't lying, Kurt teleported from his place in front of Logan, to on top of the counter in the kitchen. Logan stared at the purple and pink clouds around him for a little before turning to Kurt. Kurt was surprised to find Logan looking amazed, and almost happy to see proof that Kurt was in fact his soulmate, and it threw Kurt off, and made him question what he thought he knew.

"If we're soulmates, what does your mark look like?" Logan asked, stepping closer to the counter Kurt was on, but keeping a little distance between them so as not to scare Kurt again. Kurt climbed down from the counter and approached Logan, though still a bit tentatively, and took off his shirt. Logan looked confused, but didn't say anything as Kurt turned around to show Logan the marks on his back.

"You got claw marks? I think you're right about us being soulmates." Logan walked around Kurt to stand in front of him. Kurt watched as Logan held up one of his fists, and three metal claws shot out of his hand, making Kurt flinch in surprise.

"Do you...scratch things with your claws often?" Kurt asked. He was afraid that Logan was going to scratch him, and he wanted to ask Logan not to hurt him, but Kurt was also worried that Logan would get mad if Kurt was that straightforward.

"I'm not going to scratch you if that's what you're asking." Logan assured, retracting his claws back into his hands. "I can understand why you would be afraid though. Those marks on your back almost look like they hurt."

Kurt put his shirt back on, and felt more calm, and more relaxed after Logan assured him that he would be safe, though Kurt was still apprehensive. But Logan held his arms open to invite into a hug, and though Kurt didn't really want to, he walked into Logan's arms. When Logan wrapped his arms around Kurt, letting his hands splay over the marks on Kurt's back, Kurt gasped. The soul bond between him and Logan was exploding, and Kurt was flooded with feelings of safety, and protection, and he could feel Logan promising to take care of him.

Kurt found himself instinctively leaning closer into Logan's embrace, resting his head on Logan's shoulder and letting the man hold him. Kurt moved one of his hands to rest against Logan's side, over his mark, and he heard Logan inhale sharply at the contact. Kurt tried to send messages through their bond too, trying to let Logan know that he was willing to trust him, and that he wanted Logan to take care of him, and that he would try to take care of Logan too.

Logan sent more messages through the bond, making Kurt feel all kinds of happy feelings, but above all else, Kurt felt safe, and he realised that he didn'
