Kurt sighed as he flopped down on his bed, burying his face in his plush pillows and beginning to cry. His mother had just told him that he was engaged to be married to a princess from a neighboring kingdom, but he didn't want that. Kurt didn't want to take his father's place as king, and he most definitely didn't want to marry some girl he had never met before. Kurt moved his head and looked at his window, getting up to go look at the grounds outside the window, and found both the best, and the worst sight imaginable.

Kurt had the perfect view of the knight training grounds from one of his bedroom windows, and he would often stare out of it and watch the knights train to pass time. Or, at least, he would watch the lead guard train, which was exactly what he was doing the day Kurt found out about the engagement. Kurt had been in love with the lead guard for a long, long time, and the two had been dating for a while. The lead guard, Logan, saw Kurt watching him from the window, and gave him a wave while smiling brightly. Kurt waved back, loving seeing Logan look so happy, but beginning to cry again, because he knew that he wouldn't be able to stay with Logan when he was married.

Kurt knew that he had to tell Logan that their time as a couple was now limited, so he put on a cloak to hide his face, and left the castle to go talk to Logan. Both of the men knew since the very beginning of their relationship that they wouldn't ever be able to get married, or be together forever, but they never did talk about it. Kurt never wanted to bring it up, and prefered to just pretend that he and Logan were living in their own little bubble, where they could live completely untouched from the rest of the world. But they really couldn't do that anymore.

When Kurt got down to the training grounds, he waited until the knights were all taking a break in their training to pull Logan aside. The two men walked around the back of the knight's quarters, and ducked behind some tall hedges and plants, so that they had complete privacy. Logan was smiling brightly as he reached up and pulled Kurt's hood down off of his head, his face immediately falling.

"Kurt? What's wrong?" Logan asked, his voice holding nothing but concern.

"I was just talking to my parents." Kurt said, beginning to cry once again. "They said that I'm engaged to a neighboring princes. You and I won't be able to be together for much longer." Logan's face softened, and he pulled Kurt into a loving hug, holding the man close to him, and gently smoothed his hand over the fur of Kurt's neck.

"It's ok baby. We'll figure out a way to stop this." Logan assured, but Kurt shook his head.

"There's nothing we can do. We both knew this would happen eventually, but it seemed so far away. All we can do is wait for the wedding day to come."

"We could run away and live on our own."

"We would be hunted down. They would kill you thinking you kidnapped me. There's no way out of this." Kurt sobbed, clinging to Logan tightly. Despite the fact that Kurt was upset, and was feeling like his life was over, he was glad to be in Logan's arms, and the fact that Logan's immediate response was to pull Kurt into a comforting hug, just made Kurt fall in love with him even more.

"We'll figure something out Kurt. I love you too much to give up on us so easily."

The entire day before the wedding Kurt didn't eat at all, because he felt too sick. He didn't even really leave his room either, and instead spent the whole day holed up with Logan. Kurt had told the other guards and servants that with all of the new people who were staying in the castle with them, due to the wedding, he didn't feel safe, and would feel much more comfortable with the lead guard with him at all times. Logan was only all too happy to agree. Logan held Kurt close, rubbing his back gently as the two layed in Kurt's bed.

"I don't want to do this Logan." Kurt whispered softly, lifting his head up so that his chin was resting on Logan's chest, and he was looking up at Logan. "I know it can't happen, but I don't want to marry anyone but you."

"I know baby, I don't want you to marry anyone else either. I promise I'll be by your side the whole time." Logan replied, a single tear spilling from one of his eyes. Kurt reached up and rubbed the tear away with one of his thumbs.

The two men were enjoying their intimate moment as much as they could, when a random girl, maybe just a little younger than Kurt, walked through a solid stone wall, right into Kurt's room. The girl didn't seem to notice where she was, or that she wasn't alone in the room at first as she looked behind her as if to see if she was being followed. Kurt used the girls moment of distraction to quickly push Logan down and hide him amongst the many blankets and pillows on his bed.

"Excuse me? Who are you?" Kurt asked, getting out of bed and approaching the girl tentatively. The girl looked at Kurt, and jumped a bit, startled.

"I-I'm sorry. I was just trying to get away from my mother." The girl said, backing away from Kurt. Kurt was used to people being off put by his appearance, having heard all of the insults in the book, but it still stung a bit when he saw the girl look almost scarred. "I'm supposed to be getting married to the prince of this kingdom tomorrow and my mom has been obsessing over me all day."

"You're the neighboring princess?" Kurt asked with wide eyes, also backing away a bit then. Kurt's shins hit the foot of his bed, and he sat down, feeling himself start to cry once again.

"Yeah. Why?"

"I'm the prince you're supposed to be marrying."

"You're the prince? I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with you starting tomorrow?" The girl seemed very upset about the new information, but Kurt couldn't really care less. Or at least not until the girl began to cry. "I don't want to get married to you! I'm in love with another man, but Mom is forcing me to marry you!"

"What?" Kurt asked, perking up. If this girl didn't want to be with him either, then maybe the two of them could figure something out so that they could both be happy.

"I'm in love with my lead guard. We've been dating in secret, but we're going to have to end it tomorrow." Kurt stood up and approached the girl, growing more and more excited.

"That's great! I'm in love with someone else too, and more than anything in the world I want to be able to be with him. But I don't think there's anyway for us to get out of this wedding, especially not this late, but I have an idea that would let us both be happy with the ones we love."

"What is it?" The girl seemed to be calming down a bit, and gave Kurt her attention. Kurt moved the blankets off of Logan and helped him climb out of the bed.

"This is Logan, he's my lead guard too and I love him more than anyone else in the world. You can ask your lead guard to move in here with you tomorrow, and you and him can be together in secret while Logan and I are together. We can both secretly be with the men we love, but the rest of the world will thing that you and I are together."

"That sounds good!"

Kurt and the girl, Kitty Pryde, had gone through with the wedding, and had retired to their new, shared bedroom, both of them escorted by their respective lead guards. Once they reached their room, Kurt gave Kitty and appreciative hug, glad that she understood Kurt's need to be with Logan. After thanking Kitty and her guard, Piotr, Kurt approached a bookcase in the corner, and pulled one of the books out, causing the bookcase to slide out of the way, and reveal a cozy little room with a fireplace, a wardrobe, a bed, and a few other things in it. Kurt, Kitty, Logan, and Piotr had all talked it out the night before the wedding, and agreed that Kurt and Logan would get the secret room, as both of them much prefer the smaller, more cozy space, while Kitty and Piotr would get the main room.

Both couples could live separately, and the new king and queen got to be with the men that they each loved, and Kurt could not have been happier. He spent the night purring loudly, flicking his tail around and occasionally wrapping it around one of Logan's hands, while he cuddled Logan close. Both of the men were ecstatic that they were free to be together, and share a room, where they could be completely, and utterly expressive with their love.

Kurt thought that he really might not hate being king so much after all.
