Rapunzel au Pt.3
Kurt and Logan continued to hide in the shadows in order to avoid Mother Mystique, which was worrisome and a bit stressful, but also really fun. Kurt was honestly just having fun being outside of his tower, and he enjoyed running around the town with Logan, even if he did just feel like he was running for his life.
Logan was also having fun, as Kurt seemed to show him that he had lost his appreciation for the world around him. Kurt was excited by almost everything he saw, his eyes full of wonder, and a bright smile stretched across his face constantly. Logan usually would have been pissed if someone asked him as many questions about everyday things like Kurt did, or tried to drag him all over the place like Kurt was. But there was just something about Kurt that made Logan let it slide, and actually participated in Kurt's excitement.
Eventually that first day ended, and Logan took Kurt back into the woods so they could set up another camp. On the way, Logan had tripped, and cut himself pretty bad, and Kurt became very concerned. Kurt got Logan to a nice spot to spend the night, and pulled his hair out of it's braid, beginning to wrap some of it around each of Logan's wounds.
"What are you doing?" Logan asked, confused, curious, and a bit alarmed.
"Helping." Kurt replied simply before closing his eyes and focusing his attention on helping Logan. Logan watched as Kurt's hair exploded into a puff of purple smoke, leaving the smell of sulfur behind it. Kurt unwrapped his hair from Logan, and they both watched as Logan's wounds sealed themselves perfectly, not even leaving behind a scar.
"How did you do that?" Logan asked, amazed.
"My hair is kind of magic." Kurt replied with a shrug, feigning casualty, but actually panicking, worried that since Logan then knew his secret, he would try to attack Kurt and take his hair.
"Is that why you thought I was going to steal it?"
"Yeah. Mother warned me that people might try to use me for my powers, and that's why I shouldn't go outside. She told me that she was the only person who would use my powers properly, and not harm me to do so."
"It sounds to me like your mother was the one using you. Come on, I'll make us some dinner, then we can go to sleep, and in the morning I'll braid your hair again." Logan said, standing up and walking away to go collect some firewood.
Kurt sat patiently, waiting for Logan, and messing with his hair. Kurt was really happy that Logan could still be trusted. Kurt liked Logan, because the man was tough, and strong, and really, really nice to Kurt. Logan took care of Kurt, and showed him the best day of his life, and he was so glad that he had left the tower. And then something terrible happened.
"So, this is what you ran away to do? To find yourself a strange man and sleep on the cold ground?" Mother Mystique said powerfully from behind Kurt, making the man turn around quickly.
"Mother." Kurt managed to breathe out.
"Have you enjoyed your adventure darling? Are you ready to come back home now?" Kurt stood up and faced his mother, noticing that she was wearing a concealing cloak, but that he was still able to see blue scales dotting her skin. Mother Mystique was odd, and her skin sometimes turned blue, and when that happened, she would have Kurt use his hair to fix here.
"I don't want to live in the tower anymore. I want to live out here now."
"Out here? It's not safe for you out here."
"I've made it a whole day without getting hurt. I even made a friend."
"Oh you mean the thug? He's a criminal, Kurt. There are wanted posters of him all over the town, and he's surely just using you for your magic, just like I warned you would happen."
"He didn't know that I had magic hair until just a few minutes ago so that can't be true. He's helping me because he's my friend. You're the one who is using me, and I won't let you do it anymore. I'm staying here."
"You're coming with me." Mother Mystique lunged forward, grabbing Kurt roughly and tugging him away, Kurt struggled to escape, but Mother Mystique was strong, and she was hurting him. Kurt nearly got free when Mother Mystique pulled out a knife, holding it out so Kurt could see it so he knew he was in trouble.
As Kurt was dragged away, he began to scream for Logan, begging the man to come save him. Logan didn't come to Kurt's aid though, and Kurt was dragged away, back towards the tower. Mother Mystique took Kurt around the back of the tower, and through a secret door that lead up a long flight of stairs and into the tower, then she sealed the passageway up.
Mother Mystique chained Kurt up so that she couldn't escape again, and forced him to use his hair to get rid of her blue scales again, then she went to bed. Kurt stayed awake crying, worried that he was going to die in that tower. By the time Kurt had cried himself out, and was about to fall asleep where he laid on the floor, he heard someone coming burst into the tower through the secret passageway.
"Logan?" Kurt asked quietly, his voice tired and course from all the crying.
"Hey. I'm here to save you." Logan whispered, rushing to Kurt's side and pulling out a knife to pick the locks on the chains around Kurt's wrists.
"You came back for me?"
"Of course, we are friends after all. I saw that woman take you up here, and I thought it would be safer for both of us for me to wait until she went to bed to sneak you out. Come on." Logan freed Kurt of the chains and pulled him to his feet.
Kurt immediately pulled Logan into a tight hug, relieved that he had not misjudged the nature of his and Logan's relationship, and that he wasn't going to die in the tower. Logan hugged Kurt back, and Kurt rested his chin on the man's shoulder. It was from this angle that Kurt was able to see Mother Mystique trying to sneak up on the pair, a knife raised above her head, with the intentions of stabbing Kurt. Kurt panicked and did the only thing he could think to do and grabbed the knife out of Logan's hand, and used it to stab his mother in the stomach.
Mother Mystique fell to the floor, and Kurt let go of Logan to rush to her side. Kurt quickly began piling his hair on top of his mother's stab wound. Logan tried to stop Kurt from saving Mother Mystique, but Kurt refused to let her die, and used his hair to save her.
"I'm sorry mother. I didn't want to hurt you but you were going to hurt me, and I had to do something. Please understand. Please forgive me." Kurt started crying, feeling bad for almost killing someone, even if that person was his abuser.
"Get out of my house, and don't ever come back." Mother Mystique hissed out, and she only just got the last word out when Logan grabbed Kurt and pulled him out of the passageway by his arm. Logan took Kurt through the forest and into town where he managed to get a room at an inn.
Kurt slept uneasily that night, but Logan was there to help him, holding Kurt close, and assuring the man that he was safe, and that everything would be ok. It was that night that Kurt and Logan kissed for the first time, both of them fully acknowledging their feelings for one another.
***
Years passed and Kurt and Logan were happy. Kurt had kept his hair, but cut off enough of it that it only hung down to the small of his back, which made it easier to manage, but it was still long enough to use to heal wounds. Logan had moved on from his rebellious streak, and made amends with the townspeople. He was still different, and still rejected social norms, but he was still forgiven enough that he and Kurt could get a house in the town.
Kurt still thought of his mother sometimes, and it still hurt, and it probably always would, but Logan was always there to make him feel better.
And they lived happily ever after.
