Chapter 8 : Story Time!

Bedtime. One of the hardest parts about having Virgil as a son.

Apparently, he loved his Dad and Papa so much he didn't want to sleep, he just wanted to stay up and play.

It would take twenty minutes to even get him changed into his pyjamas and then another twenty minutes to get him in bed. Thirty minutes to choose a story and however long it took until he fell asleep.

However, since the boy loved to read, he already read all the books in his miniature library at least three times. He wanted something knew and that's how Patton found him.

Hiding in their room, looking at the shelf of books that Logan and Patton shared, skimming his finger over the spines, specifically over the Harry Potter books.

"Virgil..."

The small boy jumped and looked over, "hi Dad..." he tugged at his pyjama shirt and smiled guiltily.

"What have we told you about hiding before bed...?"

Looking down, Virgil responded quietly, "I'm thorry..."

"It's ok.... come on, let's go to bed." Patton picked him up and Virgil wrapped his arms around him.

"Dad? What'th 'Har-y Pot-er'?"

Patton smiled lightly, "well... it's seven books, about a magical boy, who goes to a magical school, to fight a bad man."

"Ooohhhh!" The boy saw the number '1' on the book called, 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone' and took it out, "read to me?"

Patton paused, he didn't know if it was deemed child friendly, however he knew Virgil would like it... but Virgil was a curious child, he'd always asked questions or pointed out inconsistencies. He even a few times pointed out theories in each story about certain characters or plots, he knew he'd have a field day with this book.

"Well, kiddo-"

"I'll read to him." Patton stared at Logan in shock, Logan liked to read but had admitted he hated doing voices as they made him feel reddikulus.

"Are you sure, Logie?" Patton really hoped Logan changed his mind, because when Virgil asked questions and talked about certain things, Logan would listen and talk, sometimes it turned into a small debate.

Virgil, however was thrilled, "Yay! Papa going to read!" Virgil didn't care about the voices, however they were a nice touch, he wouldn't lie.

Logan took Virgil into his arms, "of course I am." Logan knew that humiliating himself would be worth it, because he got to see Virgil's face light up in excitement.

Logan walked out, holding Virgil close to him and went to room, laying him down gently, "what are we reading?"

The small boy thrusted the book into Logan's arms, "thith?

"Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K.Rowling."

"What'th a fil-o-thofer?" Virgil asked, his head tilted slightly to the side.

This is what Virgil did, he'd ask question. Sometime it got to much for Patton but for Logan, it was perfectly fine, he was thrilled to have a child who was interested in learning, even if it was before bed.

"Phil-o-so-pher, is someone who learns about plants and creatures and behaviour."

"Cool..."

Logan opened the book and went to page 1, "chapter 1, The Boy Who Lived."

Virgil wrapped the purple duvet around his nose, his eyes wide in curiosity, who was this boy that lived? Was he the magic person that his Dad said about?

"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense." Logan said, in a voice that indicated he was a narrator.

"Papa? Why doeth it thay, 'thank you fery mutch'?" Virgil asked, interrupting Logan.

Logan would have lost his temper, he lost his temper around Emilie, sometimes Patton but that was always accidental, but around Virgil, he never cared, just an easy, nice, nonchalant smile, "it got your interest didn't it?"

"Well yeah...."

"That's why." Smiled Logan.

"Oh!"

Patton sat in bed, on his phone waiting for his husband to come to bed, his phone light was on the lowest setting and also on night shift. The time currently read, '3:00AM' on their alarm clock.

Patton got up and went to his sons room and opened the door, and it seemed like Logan had really gotten into reading Harry Potter to Virgil, considering he was now up in the middle of the room, a pencil in his left hand and the book in the other.

"Hermione had sunk to the floor in fright; Ron pulled out his own wand -- not knowing what he was going to do he heard himself cry the first spell that came into his head: 'Wingardium Leviosa!'" And just as Logan said the spell, he moved the pencil, swish and flick and his voice, was quiet high, yet still low, managing to capture that childlike boy.

"The club flew suddenly out of the troll's hand, rose high, high up into the air, turned slowly over -- and dropped, with a sickening crack, onto its owner's head." Virgil giggled and watched Logan stiffen, "the troll swayed on the spot and then fell flat on its face, with a thud that made the whole room tremble." Logan fell playfully, making Virgil cheer out in triumph.

"Harry got to hi-"

There was a loud cough from the door, making Logan look up from the door and Virgil threw his covers off, "Dad!"

There Patton stood, arms crossed, smiling gently at Virgil and glaring ever so slightly at Logan.

"Uhhh... hi honey."

"How have you managed to get to Chapter 10 already?" Patton asked in confusion.

"Uhhh... I don't know..." Logan responded.

Patton sighed, "it's time for bed."

However, Virgil was now fast asleep. He must have fallen asleep when Patton was giving Logan the evil eye.

Logan gently tucked Virgil in and placed a bookmark in the book, setting it down on the bedside table. He kissed his zones temple and walked out, followed by Patton, geez who knew having a kid could make Logan so soft?

But, he then realised, he had a husband who could be extremely scary when he wanted to be.

Logan laughed lightheartedly and nervously, "now Patton dearest, my love, my sweet, my angel, my patty cake, I didn't notice the ti-"

"You have five seconds to run..." Patton's voice was low and calculated, his eyes were dark and menacing and his lips held a firm frown.

"Thank you dear." Logan shot off down the corridor, making little noise so it didn't wake Virgil.

However, Patton didn't chase Logan. Oh no, making Logan run and hide all night was punishment enough and a lot of entertainment for Patton.
