What's the first thing that comes to mind when the word "arc" is said?

The arc family of course, the longest lasting and most powerful line of huntsman and huntresses ever recorded. Their line can be traced back to the very beginning of the kingdoms, with the Arcs having served as the kings personal knights for centuries.

The arcs are also known for other things

Such as their giant aura reserves, something which allowed them to  deal and take more punishment then anyone else. With each child it seemed that the aura capacity for the Arcs kept getting higher and higher.

Then there's the semblances that the arc family have, they sport  some of the most powerful semblances on remnant. From teleporting small distances, to precognition, the most powerful semblances on remnant could usually be found in the arc family line.

So, when the sentence "arc family" is said, it is safe to bet one of the most prominent things thought of are power, heroes, and huntsman.

So it was very strange to the arc family, when their only male child and heir to the Name, was the complete opposite of everything that had came to be associated with the family.

The boy, named Jaune arc, was a peculiar child.

When asked to socialize , he would refuse. When asked to go out hunting, he would refuse. And when asked to do anything else other then his own pursuit of knowledge, he would refuse.

Jaune arc seemed to have a natural thirst for knowledge. At only seven years of age, he was reading advanced texts that you would find in the hands of a beacon student.

A Very peculiar child indeed.

3rd Person POV

Jaune arc sat in his family manor, happily reading through another one of his family's many incredible books. It seemed the amount of knowledge in this library was infinite, but Jaune was determined to absorb it all.

His attention was brought away from his book by a creaking sound, he glanced up to see his mother peaking into the library. Jaune smiled and waved at his mother, who smiled back

She stepped into the library, arms crossed and an amused look on her face.

Julia arc, the mother of seven children, was still looking as spry as she did in her prime. Sitting at a crisp age of 40, her golden locks and bright blue eyes still shined brightly. She stood at 5-11, towering over her seven year old son who stood at a generous four foot.

"Jaune" she said "You can't just spend all your time cooped up in the library, you've got to spend time some outside. Why don't you go hang out with your sisters?"

Jaune shook his head and continued reading his book.

"But mom, why would I do that when there's so many awesome books to read in here!"

He held up his book to his mother, who leaned down to read the title.

Modern science and how to apply it to your everyday life

Jaunes mother stood up, and grabbed the book from her sons hand. Jaune groaned and tried in vain to get it back

"Jaune" she said, still looking down at her child "Your 7 years old, that means you listen to me. And if you don't, well I will just lock the library so you can't use it."

Jaune's eyes widened in horror, could his mother really be so cruel? He got on his hands and knees and began to beg

"No please!" He begged "not the library! I'll go outside and spend time with my sister I swear!"

Julia rolled her eyes at her sons antics, and ruffled his hair slightly.

"Well then, hurry along. Don't make your sisters wait."

He stood quickly and hurried out of the library, leaving his book in his mothers hands.

She smiled at her sons retreating form, and moved her glance at the book in hand. She placed it down with the other assortment of books Jaune had been reading.

Her smiled turned to a slight frown at the books, they were not what you would find a normal seven year old with. Though she supposed Jaune was far from a normal seven year old.

She placed the books down in a pile, and walked off to join the rest of her family.

Alexander arc, the head of the arc family, and father of seven children, was very confused.

His only son, Jaune arc, was not normal, not by any measure. His son spends all his time in the library, reading books about advanced things that even Alexander himself doesn't understand. A child his age shouldn't be reading about the ins and outs of the human body, or how to program a computer just by using two spoons and a jar of peanut butter.

Alexander shivered slightly at the memory, they were still cleaning up the peanut butter after a week.

But the most important part of turning seven, at least in the arc house, was the unlocking of one's aura.

Alexander wasn't sure when the tradition had started, but only that it had been going on for a very long time.

His father, and his father, and his father all had their auras unlocked at the ripe age of seven. It was something drilled into his head repeatedly at a young age, that when he was head of the family he would have to unlock his child's aura at age seven.

Alexander gazed at the field in front of the arc manor, and allowed a small smile to grace his lips at his children.

His oldest, Saphron, was sitting on a hill watching his sibling run around and play. She was smiling brightly and laughing as her younger sibling ran around and tackled one-another.

On her lap sat his youngest, Sophia arc, who was barley even 1. The babbling child was pulling on Saphron hair, who didn't seem to mind at all as she tickled the baby, who squealed with laughter.

The next oldest, Juno arc, was at the base of the hill running around with the her younger siblings. She had another small girl on her shoulders as she ran around.

Livia arc sat atop her sisters shoulders, her small legs barely even reaching her sisters chest. She was laughing as Juno ran her around.

Then there was Astrid arc, who was tying to grab livia arc from Juno's shoulders. Astrid was the, as her siblings called her, "mother hen" of the kids. She was very protective of Her siblings, especially the younger ones.

Next was Jacky arc, twin brother of Jaune. She was currently trying to pull along Jaune, who was not budging from his spot.

Alexander's smile fell at the sight of his son.

Jaune was sitting in the shade, watching his sisters play and smiling. He was leaning against the tree relaxing and enjoying himself. His twin was trying to pull him along with her, but he simply shook her off and smiled. She pouted slightly and ran off to join her sisters, leaving Jaune alone again.

Alexander felt a presence come up from behind him, and he turned to see the face of his loving wife.

Julia arc regarded her husband, who looked like he was very deep in thought. She placed a hand on his shoulder

"It'll be fine" she said soothingly "You've done this three times already, there's nothing to worry about"

Alexander still stood still with a frown adorning his face.

"It's not that I'm worried about" he said "unlocking aura is simple, it always has been. It's Jaune that has me worried, I'm not sure what unlocking his aura will do."

Julia raised an eyebrow

"What do you mean? What do you think unlocking his aura will do?"

Alexander's gaze fell on Jaune once again

" I worded that wrongly, I'm worried about what his semblance will do, or rather what it'll be."

"Im still confused" Julia said "he's only a kid, his semblance won't unlock this early. And even if it did, a semblance is a reflection of a person, and as far as I can tell Jaune is a good person"

Alexander shook his head

" I don't doubt that Jaune is a good person, he was raised by us after all. It's just, you can't deny he is a bit strange."

Julia's eyes narrowed

"Is that a bad thing?"

Alexander put his hands up in mock surrender

"I didn't mean it like that! I meant that Jaune has a strong thirst for knowledge, you've noticed how much time he spends surrounded by books."

Julia nodded

"And a semblance reflects your personality" Alexander continued "I'm just thinking that his semblance will reflect his thirst for knowledge, and not assist him in being a huntsman"

Julia scoffed

"And what if he doesn't want to be a huntsman? It's his choice, maybe he doesn't want to lead that life."

"it's not his choice, he's the only male arc, he has to be a huntsman" Alexander said "it has been so for centuries and will continue to be so, the arcs are all huntsman, especially the male ones"

"Why does it matter that he becomes a huntsman? You have 6 other daughter who all could be one, yet you don't seem ceen on forcing them to become huntresses. Unless think huntsman are better then huntresses?"

Alexander scoffed

"I'm not a sexist pig Julia, it's tradition for the male heir of the arcs to become a huntsman and take over the family, and if jaune's semblance doesn't help him in that regard-"

Julia cut him off

"He will have a hard time becoming a huntsman"

Alexander nodded

"Your worrying about the future too much, let's focus on the present" Julia said "let's unlock Jaune and Jacky's auras"

Julia walked down the hill towards her children, who all yelled out different greetings at the sight of her. Alexander stood there for a moment before going down to join his wife.

Seeing there father and mother join them, the Arc children ran over to them. Even Jaune stood up from his spot in the shade and went over to his parents.

"Children" Alexander began "The time has come to welcome the next two Arcs into the leagues of huntsman"

Alexander turned towards where Jacky and Jaune were standing, each of them now nervously looking around

"Wait" Jaune said "you mean us?

Alexander nodded

"Yes, there comes a time in every Arc's life when they must have their aura unlocked, that time is now for both of you"

Jacky and Jaune's faces both broke out into wide smiles, both of them having dreamed of this moment.

Jacky stepped forward, waving her arms excitedly

"Do me! Me first!" She yelled

Alexander looked over to his son, who shrugged and gave him a thumbs up. Signaling to him that it was ok to do Jacky first.

Alexander smiled at his son, then moved his gaze to his daughter and hand his hand out. He placed his hand on Jacky's head, and began to chant

"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality" Alexander began to glow a bright yellow, prompting those close to him to shield their eyes "through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all." Jacky also began to glow "infinite in distance and unbound by death" both Jacky and Alexander began to glow brighter "I release your soul, and by my shoulder, protect thee"

A bright light flashes through the field, knocking everyone slightly back. When the dust settles and the Arcs regain their bearings, Jacky is glowing a bright gold.

Alexander smiles brightly, and embraces his daughter

"Congratulations Jacky! This is your first step to becoming a huntress, we can now start your training!"

Jacky smiled at her father

"Now Jacky" Alexander began "try to focus really hard, and try to use your semblance."

Jacky's eyes scrunched up in concentration, as she tried desperately to active her semblance.

Little stones around jacky began to levitate, as she willed her semblance to activate.

"That's enough jacky!" Alexander yelled

As quickly as they rose, the rocks fell back to the ground, and Jacky fell to the ground panting.

Alexander fell onto his knees and held his daughter, smiling proudly

"Great job Jacky! You have a truly powerful semblance, manipulating gravity around you!"

Jacky smiled again as her mother picked her up and moved her aside, allowing Jaune to step forward towards his father. Alexander's smile wavered for a split second before it returned, only seeming a bit more strained.

"Are you ready son?" Alexander questioned

"Born ready" Jaune answered eagerly.

Alexander reached his hand out and placed it on Jaunes head, as he began to chant once again

"For it is passing that we achieve immortality" Alexander began to glow again, all normal so far. "Through this we come a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all" Jaune also began to glow, a bright yellow, and everyone around him had to shield their eyes again "I fire in distance and unbound by death, I release your soul" Jaune began to glow brighter and brighter, which was slightly alarming to Julia and Alexander "and by my shoulder, protect thee"

Once the last word had come out of his mouth, a large explosion knocked everyone off their feet. As quick as he was knocked down, Alexander arc shot up and looked around.

His wife was clutching their youngest Sophia and livia to her chest, protecting them from the blast using her aura.

The others were all in various states of knocked away, with Astrid and Saphron being launched serval feet away by the blast. Juno stood fine, her semblance, Fortress as she called it, having activated subconsciously.

Alexander was almost scared to look over to his son, fearing what he would see. After a few moments of hesitation, his eyes traveled over to his son.

Jaune was standing straight up, almost too straight, he seemed unaffected by the explosion.

How? The explosion had even knocked him down, an he was a fully trained huntsman, how had Jaune not been knocked over?

That's when it hit him, Jaune wasn't knocked down because Jaune was the explosion. It had come from unlocking his aura, but how?

The only answer was the amount of aura he had, it wasn't impossible for someone's aura pool to be so large it causes a reaction when activated, it was just very rare. It seemed Jaune was one of those cases

Alexander sighed in relief, his fears about Jaunes future capability as a huntsman were quelled, for now.

As the smoke cleared, Alexander called out for his son

"Jaune!" He called "Jaune your aura reserve is massive! That's why there was a explosion, now come out from that smoke so we ca-"

The words died in his throat as Jaune stepped out of the smoke

It was still his son, that much he could tell, but something was very very off about him.

His posture was too perfect, everyone part of his was very tense and straight. He was covered in dirt and mud, not surprising considering what just happened.

But his eyes, oh his eyes.

Before his eyes were bright, full of hope, full of life.

Now, they were dead.

It was just too blue orbs staring at him impassively, with absolutely no emotion radiating from either.

"Jaune?" Alexander questioned "are you ok?"

Jaune's eyes moved to meet Alexander's gaze, and the huntsman felt a shiver go down his spine

"Yes" Jaune spoke in a scarily dead sounding voice "never better"

If Jaune was antisocial before, then now he was a complete isolationist. He rarely left the family study, never spoke more then a few sentences to anyone, and he even started to disappear for hours at a time before returning home.

Safe to say, Jaune arc was no more, replaced by whatever thing inhabited his body.

Alexander supposed it was his semblance, whatever it may be, causing him to act so strangely. It seemed to cut off his emotions completely, and thus made him nearly invisible to Grimm.

For two months the only time anyone would see Jaune would be either in the library, or in the rare occasion he would go to the kitchen to eat something.

But by the third month, he would even be rarely seen in the arc manor. It was strange, no one could really find out where he went, they couldn't follow him due to the Grimm, and Jaune had no such problems thanks to his what they assumed to be a semblance.

That was about the time people began to go missing, completely vanished from the settlement.

At first it was a few farmers, then a few children, and finally a local huntsman went missing. Search party's were sent out, but no one could ever find any trace of them.

Additionally several loads of equipment were stolen from the local hospital. Again no sign of the equipment was every reported.

Until the smell was found

A huntsman, named coral, was out searching for thre missing people when he noticed it.

A foul stench, one so foul the experienced huntsman had to gag. It was strange, one second he was walking through the calm forest and the next he was hit by this wall of stench, it was so bad he had to take a step back to breathe.

The implications of the smell were not lost when it was reported, there was a high chance there was a body nearby. Only a dead or decomposing body could produce such a stench.

The Arc family, those that were huntsman and huntresses, and serval other local huntsman were sent out to investigate. They tracked through the forest, killing the many Grimm they came upon until coral lead them to the spot.

The group was composed of Alexander arc, Juno arc, Saphron arc, Astrid arc, coral, and Angelo who was the father of two missing children.

The smell hit them just as hard as it had coral, but they continued forward, if only to provide some sort of closure to the grieving family's.

The smell led them to a dark cave, surrounded by several packs of Grimm, seemingly attracted to the smell.

The group of huntsman and huntresses made quick work of the horde, and moved into the cave.

What they saw in there would haunt serval of them till the day they died.

They had found the missing people, or at least they thought they had, it was impossible to tell.

There, on serval operating tables, were 4 bodies, laid out and opened up. They had Cleary been dissected, ripped apart brutally by someone either not using the proper tools or not knowing what they were doing.

(Visual aid- not exactly like this but kind of, just thought it would help)

"By the brothers" Juno croaked out "this is horrifying"

It looked like something straight out of a horror movie, something that no one would expect to be a real thing, yet here it was.

The two children and farmers were all dead, and Angelo broke down at the sight.

He fell to his knees, and began to sob at the sight, his baby's, the lights of his life, were dead in front of him .

"My boys!" He yelled in anguish "I'll kill whoever did this! I'll make them suffer!"

Alexander placed a comforting hand on Angelo, who was a complete mess. Saphron moved towards what only could be described as a science experiment and inspected them closer

"This is something straight out of a biology book" she said "whoever did this wanted to see what made us tick, what made us human"

Astrid shivered slightly

"Whoever did this, is not human. I refuse to believe someone human could do this" She said

A light and a scream of anguish brought the group back to remnant, as Alexander quickly ran towards it

"Dad no!" Saphron screamed after him

"Don't be a fool!" Coral yelled, yet both were ignored

Alexander rounded a corner towards the light and the screams, they got quieter as he approached. Alexander sprinted into the part of the cave where the light originated from, and froze at the sight

There was his son, his baby boy, Jaune. He was bringing a scalpel down on the missing huntsman, tracing it along the man's arms and chest.

The huntsman's aura flared up, but Alexander could tell by the dull color that it was close to failing.

"Fascinating" Jaune spoke in his new, emotionless voice "even from the smallest of wounds your aura protects you. tell me huntsman do you activate it voluntarily when your life is in danger or does it active itself?"

The huntsman spat at him

"Fuck off you psychopath" he growled at Jaune

Jaune scoffed "I am not insane, I'm a man of science, you are a necessary sacrifice for productivity"

"You can't be more then five, man of science my ass!" The huntsman yelled

Alexander felt four people come up behind him, he turned to see the search party by him each with a horrified look on their face.

"No fucking way" Juno said in disbelief "Jaune did all of this? But he's barley seven! And he's definitely not insane!"

Angelo began to growl and stood up, drawing his great sword. Corals eyes widened

"Angelo don't!" He tired, but to no avail

Angelo yelled in anger and sorrow as he moved towards Jaune, who turned to face him.

"Ah, it seems we have guests" he mussed

"You bastard! You killed my kids, and all these innocent people! For what?"

"I wished to see the affects concentrated pain in civilians and auraed individuals. I also wished to see the inside of a human body for myself. I assure you, it was all in the name of science" Jaune stated

Angelo yelled again and charged at Jaune, who simply sidestepped the distraught man, who was telegraphing his attacks cleary.

Jaune, using his scalpel, stabbed Angelo in the Leg, sending the man to the ground.

" your emotions make you unstable, and predictable"
Jaune said

"Fuck you!" Angelo yelled

Before Jaune could do anymore, the rest of the group stepped in. Saphron went to tend to Angelo, while coral got the trapped huntsman out of his imprisonment.

The remaining arcs all grabbed and held down their brother, leaving him trapped on the ground.

Jaune didn't struggle as Juno and Astrid held him to the ground, nor did he make a noise as Juno manhandled him slightly.

Coral helped the huntsman up, and let him use his own body as support to walk out of the cave.

Saphron used her semblance, a healing factor, to heal Angelo's injury and helped him out of the cave.

Juno and Astrid picked up Jaune, who still said nothing, and carried him out.

Alexander took another look at the cave, and one thing caught his eye.

It was a book, one he didn't recognize. The title was-

Alexander shivered

The following day a ship from atlas came by the take Jaune, much to the chagrin of the arc family.

They were confused, scared for and angry at their brother. but they still wanted to keep him around, and try to get back the old Jaune they knew.

But Alexander, and those who came with him to he cave, knew better.

Jaune arc would never be normal again, he would never be a normal child or even normal adult again. Jaune had killed, not just normally, but brutally killed 4 people. Two of which were children his own age.

He had tortured a huntsman for oum knows how long, and when he had been caught there wasn't a slimmer of regret in his eyes.

There was actually not a single emotion portrayed by him.

There was no other choice but to give him over to atlas.

Alexander had pulled several favors, and instead of going to Jail Jaune was going to General ironwoods personal testing site. There he would be overseen by several specialist and General ironwood himself, if anyone could fix Jaune it would be them.

As Jaune was carried off in chains to atlas, his new home most likely permanently. He said only one thing to his family

"This is not the end"

That's the end of "logic dictates life" chapter 1, hope you all enjoyed.

It took a bit to write, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Also wanted to take things slower, so I started with Jaune instead of going straight to shockwave. Don't worry cause this is still a shockwave story, but it has to start with Jaune arc.

This story will not jump forward a bunch and I will try to take my time to flesh out the characters to the best of my ability and tell the best story I can.
